Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $500   Louie is an 8 month old Maltese mix who is looking for his Musketeers! Louie came from the shelter with his two companions and was extremely ready to escape the confines of the kennel. After a good groom, Louie emerged from his matted coat. Louie has a non-shedding coat which will make him an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the house. Louie will require regular grooming.    Below is a note from Louie’s foster.  “Louie is a sweet, sensitive boy who is blossoming as he discovers the world around him. On his first days in his foster home, he was so terrified that we could barely touch him without him running to hide. In the days following, we started seeing his silly and curious side as he took his cues from our resident dogs. Now, he loves to follow us around and ask for pets. It has been so lovely to watch him bloom in our home as he has gained his confidence and we know his lucky forever home will have a blast with him.  Louie wakes up and goes outside for a potty around 7 AM. He comes inside for breakfast and then settles down for a luxurious morning nap next to his foster siblings. He goes out a few times throughout the day to get his zoomies out, but mostly sits quietly with his toys or naps next to us as we work. Louie has dinner at 6 PM and then enjoys some couch snuggles in the evening as we unwind from the day. He goes outside for one last potty at 10 PM and then curls up in his dog bed for the night.  Louie lives with multiple dogs and cats in his forever home and gets along with them all! He needs a slow introduction to people as he is quite fearful of new people, but if you are willing to put in the work, the effort is worth it! Louie is still working on leash introductions and will need a patient home ready to show him the ropes.  Louie is the kind of dog that will be so worth the effort and time he needs to settle in. When he is set up for success, he will adapt and integrate into his environment. Louie takes his cues from his foster siblings, so he will need a confident dog in his new home.”    Louie is only an option for homes who have prior dog experience, with shy dog experience prioritized. Louie would prefer a calmer environment, so no kids under the age of 15.May 7, 2024, 7:11 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $700   Huey is an 8 month old Maltese x Poodle (Maltipoo) who can’t wait to find his new band of Musketeers! Huey was surrendered to the shelter with his pals after his former home was no longer able to care for them. Huey was very shy and matted when we took him into our rescue, and we knew he just needed some TLC to show us his awesome self. Huey has been building his confidence and is now ready for his next chapter. Huey has a coat that will require grooming but he won’t be an option for those with allergies. He is an option for those looking for a bestie though!   Below is a note from Huey’s foster.  “Huey is a sweet and loving boy who is just an amazing and wonderful buddy! Huey arrived very scared from the shelter and spent a week or so getting acclimated to our house. Now, he loves to quietly cuddle with me, laying with his head in my lap. He loves to be near me and our resident dogs, following me around the house as I go about my day. Huey is a true couch potato type of dog, happy to spend his day lounging on the couch and rolling over when he thinks he can get some pets. Huey has a hilarious hobby where he takes toys and socks and makes a little pile to cuddle on with his prizes. Huey is such a love and has been a fabulous temporary addition to our home.  Huey starts his day with breakfast at 7 AM before going outside for a potty break. During the day, he hangs out on the couch with my resident dogs, laying on a soft blanket and snoozing the day away. He spends some of his day outside, soaking up the sunshine and exploring his surroundings. He gets a walk in the afternoon when the weather allows, and is curiously learning from our dogs. He gets dinner at 6 PM and then cuddles up on the couch for the rest of the night.  Huey gets along very well with our dogs and would do well with a canine companion in his new home. He is mostly house trained and crate trained. Huey had never experienced a leash before he came to us, so we have been working on his leash walking skills as he gains his confidence. Huey is such a mellow guy, he will make your life complete!”   Huey is an option for a variety of homes, regardless of prior experience. While he would enjoy a canine companion in his new home, he could also be a solo pup. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10.May 7, 2024, 7:11 pm

Tulip was rescued from the shelter after her former home was no longer able to care for her. This sweet girl is full of love, life, and happiness and would love to join any garden! Tulip is almost fully grown and will remain in the small range as an adult, so she’s the perfect adventure size. Tulip has a hair coat, so she will potentially require some grooming. She could be an option for those with dander allergies, though she is not hypoallergenic.    Tulip is the perfect dog for those seeking a spunky yet snuggly new best friend. She is just as happy to bounce around the yard with a toy as she is to settle down in your lap for a long snuggle session. There is no such thing as personal space to Tulip, she loves curling up in a little ball and soaking up all the love you have to give her. Tulip is figuring out her favorite things still but so far she loves LambChop toys and Nylabones. She would love getting the chance to raid a pet store with her new people and pick out a bunch of goodies! Tulip is oh so sweet and smart to boot! She is easy going but also up for adventure. Basically, whatever you are looking for in a new family member, Tulip is that dog!  Tulip starts her morning at 7:30 AM with a wagging tail as she heads out for a morning potty trip. She then trots back inside for breakfast, which she eats happily. Tulip spends her morning sunning herself in the backyard with her foster siblings, playing with toys and getting her zoomies out. Around lunch time, Tulip spends some time getting cuddled by her foster parents. It’s her favorite time of the day! In the afternoon, she’s back to more playing and snoozing until it’s time for dinner. She has dinner at 6 PM and then gets a short walk around the neighborhood. In the evening, Tulip snuggles on the couch with her foster parents as they watch TV until she heads to bed.  Tulip gets along well with dogs of all ages and sizes. She would love a playmate in her forever home. She loves people, especially those who have treats for her! Tulip has had no accidents in her foster home and is very polite when taking direction. Tulip walks well on a leash but would do well with continued training as she is still very much in the puppy stage of life.     Tulip is an option for just about any home, regardless of prior dog experience. She would be a fabulous first-time dog. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.May 7, 2024, 7:11 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600   Bubbles is an 8 year old Yorkie x Maltese (Morkie) mix who is bubbling with love for his forever home! This handsome gentleman was surrendered to the shelter for reasons unknown, but we were told it was a suspected new baby and no need for an older dog. Well, we would never let anyone trade Bubbles in for a newer model so we scooped him right up and told him he would find the best second chance ever. Bubbles is a petite dude with a personality that is anything but! He may be reaching his golden years but he is just getting more handsome as he ages. Bubbles has a non-shedding coat that will require regular grooming to keep him looking sharp. He could be an option for those with light allergies, but not those with true allergies.     Bubbles is a handsome, playful, snuggly, and all-around perfect gentleman! Bubbles is very people-oriented and would love a home looking for a faithful shadow. He adores games like fetch and will romp around with his beloved squeaky toys for hours at a time. As much as he loves his toys, Bubbles is also a huge cuddlebug who loves finding time to park himself on a lap for as many cuddles as he can soak up. You would have no idea that Bubbles is getting up there in years because he doesn’t let anything stop him from living his life to the fullest. He’s even still learning new tricks, so take that old saying and prepare to flip it on its head with a boy like Bubbles. Bubbles loves getting out and exploring the world on his walks and will make such a lovely companion for any family seeking a loyal best friend for life.  Bubbles starts his day around 7:30 AM with a smile as he heads outside for a bathroom break. After he comes back inside, he gets his breakfast before his morning stroll. The rest of his morning is spent soaking up the sunshine in the garden. This boy loves the outdoors! Throughout the day, Bubbles is a faithful shadow to his foster Mama, keeping her company wherever she goes. He gets another walk in the afternoon before he takes a well deserved nap. In the evening, Bubbles has his dinner before he settles on the couch for some snuggles and affection as he watches his nightly programs. After one last trip outside to potty, Bubbles heads to bed in his soft bed where he sleeps through the night.   Bubbles gets along well with dogs of all ages, but due to his smaller size the larger dogs can be a bit overwhelming. He is fully house trained and crate trained and walks very well on a leash. He would adore a family ready to shower him in love and affection like he deserves. We know this fabulous boy has so many adventures to come and we can’t wait to see Bubbles take on the world in his next journey!    Bubbles is an option for just about any home, regardless of prior dog experience. He could be a first-time dog as long as a potential home is prepared to discuss grooming requirements. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.May 7, 2024, 7:11 pm

Story
Kristmas was fearful and very nervous at the shelter when we rescued her. She is a special behavior needy dog. Kristmas needs time to warm up and feel safe. She can be handled and picked up. She was neglected with matts and had very long toe nails. She was probably too isolated prior and then left in the streets. Kristmas was fine meeting another dog on leash. She was nervous at our vet but they were able to care for her and clip her long nails. She is now in a quiet foster home and relaxing. At first she stayed in her crate inside dog pen and just watched. The next day she felt safer and ate a little. Finally came out and walked out to yard for potty biz. Sniffing and hanging out with the foster home's gentle friendly small dog. Kristmas needs time to decompress and feel safe. Will need an experienced guardian and quiet home situation with attached back yard. More info. to come. She will only eat home made cooked food. Foster home makes chicken or turkey with rice and veggies. She won't eat store bought kibble nor can. Update on day 2: At foster home she is very slowly warming up. She follows their 2 dogs around and out to yard. She needs a very experienced home with another dog to feel safe. Best no kids or older kids 10 yrs and up. She will flinch at fast movement and is head shy. She needs more time in her foster home to learn and be less fearful. She slowly will jump on the sofa and go to foster mom to sniff hands. Kristmas is eating very little now and likes Weruva canned food. She is still too nervous to eat a full meal. So maybe in another 2 weeks she will be normal but shy behavior. She was probably too isolated since a puppy so new people and places make her very nervous. Need to move slow and let her set her pace to trust and feel safe. She will not walk on leash but can be guided on leash at home with another dog around. Will take time for her adjust. She is not a dog for social outings or parks. Mar 2024: She is now walking on leash with a harness. Follows people and foster home's dog on walks. She was a very picky eater but foster home makes home-made meals of meat/veggies/rice for her and their dog. She now loves her food!May 7, 2024, 1:36 pm

Ace is 16 months and a great loving dog. He needs another loving home with parents who have the time he needs to love on him. He is great with other dogs, kids and people. Unfortunately with work and school we don’t have the time he needs. He will be a great addition to any family especially those with young kids.

Story
Harold has what cuteness scientists define as Category 9 Adorability, an off-the-charts ranking based on little round eyes peeking through delicate floof, a minuscule mustache, wild eyebrows and extravagant ears. We think it's because he's a super-nice darling good boy who looks like he smokes cigars when no one is looking. You be the judge. Either way, he's an irresistible pup ready to cuddle his way into your life with record-breaking sweetness.
