Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, February 21st from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. Adoption fee: $500 Juicy Fruit is a 3 year old, 17-pound Bichon mix with a soft, non-shedding coat and an even softer heart. Rescued from a shelter, he has blossomed in foster care into a cheerful, affectionate little companion who seems genuinely delighted to be part of a home. His day begins quietly and politely. Juicy Fruit waits patiently in bed until the household wakes up— usually around 7:00 a.m., though he has proven he’s perfectly capable of sleeping in until at least 8:30. Once the day begins, he is more than ready for breakfast. In fact, he prefers to eat before heading out for his morning potty break. Mealtime is his favorite event of the day, and when he hears kibble hitting the bowl, he transforms into a bouncing bundle of joy, springing up and down like Tigger with pure enthusiasm.   He currently eats Zignature limited ingredient formula (lamb small bites at the moment, though he’s also enjoyed whitefish and venison). Before arriving in foster care, he experienced some itching and mild skin issues, but those have resolved beautifully. His treats of choice are cheese and Nutrish Burger Bites, and his food motivation makes him a wonderful candidate for learning tricks and polishing his manners.   Juicy Fruit is fully housetrained and came that way. He will wait politely by the door or let himself out through the doggie door— a new skill he has proudly mastered. Initially, he seemed unsure about pottying in grass and preferred to go during walks, but he has grown more confident and now happily uses the yard. He can hold it for long stretches and does not need potty pads.   During the day, he is mostly mellow and content. He enjoys lounging on the doggie sofa or stretching out in a warm sunbeam while his foster works. He likes being nearby but isn’t clingy— he may choose your company, or he may choose the sunny spot on the floor. In the evenings, after dinner at 6:00 p.m., he enjoys another burst of zoomies, some playful wrestling with his 24-pound Scottish Terrier foster brother, and a short walk. Afterward, it’s time for sofa snuggles. Juicy Fruit is wonderfully affectionate during TV time, happily seeking belly rubs and pets. He will rest his head on your lap and gently nudge your hand with his mouth if you pause too long between strokes.   When he first arrived, he was transferred from one crate to another. The moment he made eye contact with his foster, his tail wagged so hard it thumped audibly against the crate. That sweetness has only grown. He initially growled at his doggy foster brother through a gate, but once they were properly introduced, they became buddies within minutes. They now wrestle several times a day—playfully and noisily, with wagging tails and mutual enthusiasm. He also loves squeaky stuffie toys and a good game of fetch. He has yet to destroy a toy, though he is happy to “assist” by de-fluffing one that another dog has already gutted.   In the home, he is a very good boy. He rarely barks—typically only if someone knocks at the door. There is no digging, no destructive chewing, and no nuisance habits. He has been trustworthy when left alone, though he may snuggle up to a pair of shoes without harming them. His “mischief” has been minimal: one stolen piece of broccoli and one unfortunate trash incident. When he first arrived, he needed ear drops, eye drops, medicated baths, and pills, and he handled all of it like a champ. He’s cooperative for baths and comfortable with handling. His skin, eyes, and ears have all healed up beautifully! He does have some scarring on one cornea but it does not seem to affect him.   One of his endearing quirks is that sometimes his lips get adorably stuck on his teeth, giving him a comical expression. He also approaches door thresholds as if they are Olympic hurdles, giving a little leap instead of stepping over them. And at mealtime, his joyful bouncing routine is guaranteed to make you smile.   Juicy Fruit loves walks and has an adorable, determined speed-walk. On veterinary advice, his walks are currently kept to short, one-block outings because he has a little skip or limp when he moves quickly. He sometimes alternates which back leg he briefly holds up, usually the right. Interestingly, it doesn’t appear during a full run or regular walking pace, and it never dampens his enthusiasm. There’s no whining, no sensitivity to touch, and he gets spectacular zoomies without hesitation. He would gladly keep going on walks if allowed. He doesn’t mind wearing a sweater indoors, but on walks he will simply stop moving until it’s removed— he clearly has strong opinions about outdoor fashion.   Juicy's periodic limp is due to an iliopsoas injury, which the vet suspects is a result of prior trauma. Because Juicy Fruit is a happy dog who does not display signs of pain, no treatment is recommended at this time. He made need pain medication and/or rehab in the future as he ages, so his adopter should be prepared to discuss this with their veterinarian. Due to his injury, his adoption fee has been reduced.   There is something soulful about Juicy Fruit— he has the look of an old soul with the spirit of a puppy. He naps in sunbeams, leans in for affection, and wants to be your friend. More than anything, Juicy Fruit seems ready to be someone’s ride-or-die best friend.February 14, 2026, 5:39 pm
