Story
Current Location: Nottingham, MD Meet Fred 💛 Fred is a tender, young Shih Tzu mix who is learning what life can be like when it’s safe, quiet, and kind. He came from a hoarding situation, so the world is still a very big and sometimes scary place—but every day, Fred shows small, brave signs of trust that speak volumes about the loving dog he’s becoming. He’s not ready for hands yet, and sudden movements send him scurrying for cover, but if you sit quietly or go about your day, Fred may sneak close, sniff curiously, and—if he’s feeling extra courageous—offer a quick lick before retreating again. Those tiny moments are huge victories for a dog who has learned that survival sometimes means staying invisible. What truly makes Fred shine is his love for other dogs. He bonded quickly and deeply with his calm, patient foster brother Guinness, who has become his emotional anchor and favorite companion. Fred feels safest with a steady canine friend by his side and will need a similar dog in his future home to help him build confidence. With the right buddy, Fred shows glimpses of joy—howling in protest when separated, scattering toys and chews around the house, stealing socks, and getting the “rips” as he dashes around trying to spark a game of chase. While higher‑energy dogs still feel overwhelming, his curiosity is growing, and he’s watching the world a little more closely every day. Fred is still very much a work in progress and will need a patient, dog‑savvy home committed to moving at his pace. He’s a flight risk and not ready for outdoor adventures yet, and grooming and handling will take time and trust. He’s learning to use potty pads again, loves toys and natural chews, and rewards kindness with quiet companionship and gentle glances from across the room. Fred may not be the dog who runs up for cuddles—but for the right person, earning his trust will be an incredibly meaningful journey. If you believe love can be measured in small steps and soft victories, Fred just might be your kind of dog. 🐾

Story
If you`ve ever dreamed of having your own adorable little shadow with a toy permanently in her mouth (who hasn`t?), Jemma is ready to make that dream come true! This precious 2-year-old Poodle/Shih Tzu mix is the perfect combination of playful and cuddly. With her sandy curls, expressive face, and happy-go-lucky personality, she has a way of making everyone smile. Jemma loves playing fetch, carrying her favorite toys from room to room, going for walks, and making new canine (and even feline!) friends with appropriate and slow introductions. After she`s gotten her energy out, she`s more than happy to curl up in your lap for some quality cuddle time. She`s housebroken, enjoys her walks, and has all the makings of an affectionate, fun-loving companion.Jemma is looking for a family that will continue helping her build confidence and good habits. She can be a little cautious when meeting new people and does best with calm, low-key introductions before her sweet personality shines through. She also prefers not to be left alone and feels most comfortable when she can see her people, so she`s happiest in a home where she won`t be isolated for long stretches. On walks, her enthusiasm sometimes has her weaving a little too close to your feet, so you`ll want to keep an eye on your own two paws! She`s already made wonderful progress with learning to share her favorite people, comes when called, happily heads into her crate for a treat, and handles baths and grooming like a champ. With patience, love, and plenty of toys, Jemma is ready to become someone`s devoted best friend. If you’d like to take this pupper home, please fill out an adoption application at this link – https://animalalliesrescue.org/dog-application. The adoption fee is $350 and covers all expenses needed to prepare dogs like this one for their forever homes. By the time you meet them, they’ve already been spayed/neutered (if age-appropriate) and microchipped. They’ve been checked by a veterinarian and are up to date on necessary vaccinations, including Rabies and DHLPP. They have also been tested for heartworm and tick-borne diseases and have started heartworm and flea preventative medication. Some of our dogs have even undergone extensive medical care to ensure they’re ready for a happy, healthy life with you!

Story
Hi - My name is Wilson and I am a new member of the AARF family. I am a Maltese Shih Tzu mix, but because I am brand new to these parts, there`s not much more known about me or my personality just yet. If you check back a little later, I`m sure my foster parents will have a lot more information to post about me. If you have any questions, though, feel free to send an email to info@animalalliesrescue.org. or if you just think it`s love at first sight, please fill out an adoption application at this site - http://www.animalalliesrescue.org and choose me - Wilson! My adoption fee is $350. AARF wants me to tell you that their adoption package covers all expenses needed to prepare dogs like me for our forever homes. By the time you meet us, we’ve already been spayed/neutered (if age appropriate) and microchipped. We’ve been checked by a veterinarian, and we’re up to date on age appropriate immunizations against rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus). We’ve been tested for heartworm and other tick borne diseases (4DX), and we’ve started our heartworm and flea preventive medications. Some of us have had extensive surgeries, dental work, or other necessary procedures. AARF is committed to getting all of us entirely ready for a happy, healthy, love-filled life!

Story
Meet Remy, the Southern Gentleman who will dazzle you with his winning smile! This 16-month-old Dachshund/Maltese mix is pure charm from nose to tail, with his fluffy white coat, one distinguished gray eye patch, and a tail that doesn`t quit. Watching Remy run is a treat all by itself—his short little legs bounce along like a cartoon character on a mission, and it`s impossible not to laugh. When playtime is over, this sweet boy transforms into a world-class cuddle expert. His favorite place to be is snuggled up next to his people, preferably burrowed under a cozy blanket where he can soak up all the love. He also gets along wonderfully with other dogs and cats, greeting them politely and respecting their boundaries like the little gentleman he is.Remy is still building confidence in a few areas, and he`s looking for a family that will help him continue making progress. He`s fully house-trained as long as he stays on a regular schedule, since he`s not the best at letting you know when it`s time to head outside. He`s also working on crate training—he`ll happily hang out in his crate with the door open, but if it`s closed, he may serenade you with his impressive howling skills because being away from his people is not his favorite thing. New people can make him a little shy at first, but if they`re patient and let him come to them, he`s soon asking for pets. And while `sit` remains an unsolved mystery (we`re convinced his adorable little hot dog body is partly to blame!), Remy more than makes up for it with his affectionate personality, sweet nature, and endless supply of snuggles. If you’d like to take this pupper home, please fill out an adoption application at this link – https://animalalliesrescue.org/dog-application.
