Story
Buckaroo is a neutered male Smooth Fox Terrier mix, born about May, 2024. He is loving, bright and adores attention. Fox Terriers are smart and trainable and require some daily exercise to live their best lives. Buckaroo weighs about 14 lbs, is neutered, and is healthy. He’s from a former breeder who passed away, but while they look like purebred Smooth Fox Terriers, we don’t have any paperwork and so they could be a mixed breed. Buckaroo will make a loving and lovable companion who also happens to be adorable.  $125 This covers the cost of spay/neuter, DHPP, Rabies, Flea, tick, heart worm check, worm treatment, and microchip. To adopt, you need to first fill out an application. Go to: https://rutherfordcountyhumanesociety.org/dog-adoption-application/ We are located in Western North Carolina.     Optional transport is weekly.  After your application is approved, we will contact you regarding cost and delivery if you so desire.December 5, 2025, 1:43 pm

Story
Calling all Terrier Lovers! Meet Stewart, aka Stewie! This scruffy little character was spotted running as a stray before making his way to safety. Since arriving, Stewie has proven himself to be bright, funny, and incredibly affectionate. He’s 1–2 years old, 17 lbs, and appears to be a wire-coat Jack Russell Terrier mix. His scruffy coat and signature “poodle-hawk” tuft make him irresistibly adorable. Stewie is currently being fostered with two moms and five other dogs. He does best with playful pups and would love a young, active buddy in his new home. He’s a wonderful mix of goofy, clever, affectionate, and fun. While he can be a little shy with new people, he warms up quickly and becomes a total velcro dog, following his humans from room to room as his silly, slightly chaotic, always-lovable personality comes out. Stewie is crate-trained and almost fully potty-trained. You still need to keep an eye on him and give him consistent breaks, but he’s really getting the hang of it! His foster mom has been doing structured crate nap times, and he now settles quickly. At bedtime, he sleeps quietly in his crate, and even trots right in on his own when the treat routine starts. Good boy, Stewie! Stewart is great on leash. He stays close, doesn’t pull much, and while he can get a bit nervous with passing people or heavy traffic, he doesn’t panic. He’s already made great progress with desensitization walks and is even more confident with a dog buddy by his side. This cute, goofy boy is also an incredibly sweet and snuggly companion. He’s an active pup who loves fun and will keep you laughing, but after a good walk or some yard zoomies, he’s perfectly happy to relax on the couch or entertain himself with a toy. Stewart is ready for a family who will enjoy his spark and help him continue blossoming into the wonderful dog he’s meant to be. Stewie is coming to town on 12/6 and will be fostered in Herndon, VA. Story
Meet Jack! This sweet boy was found running as a stray in a known dumping area, but thanks to a Good Samaritan, he’s now safe with Worthy Dog. Jack quickly proved himself to be a happy, affectionate pup who adjusted quickly to home life.  Jack is currently being fostered by Jennifer and their two small, playful dogs. He recently spent a long holiday weekend in a home that included multiple large dogs, a dog-savvy cat, and kids (ages 9 and 12), and did wonderfully there, too. Jack is easygoing with new dogs, gentle with kids, and indifferent to cats, so the total package. Confident meeting new people and eager to please, Jack is treat-motivated, trainable, and happy to share his toys and snacks. With his medium energy level, he enjoys romping in the yard with his pup pals or playing with toys, but he’s just as content curling up on the couch for some downtime. Jack gets two walks a day and does well on leash once he’s had a few sniffs to settle in. He’s still a bit nervous around traffic, heavy activity, and loud noises, so he’d do best in a quieter, suburban setting rather than a busy city environment. Jack is crate-trained, house-trained, and sleeps soundly through the night and loves to cuddle His foster mom, Jennifer, shared this update: “He’s got such a cool temperament—just a loving, sweet pup who wants to hang with his people and get scratches. He LOVES people and enjoys making new friends. He’s very patient with the boys and plays when they initiate but also knows when to stop when they’re done. He doesn’t try to steal their food and loves playing chase in the yard.  Jack has some energy and needs walks a couple of times a day, but after that, he’s pretty chill. While he's good on leash overall, he gets really nervous when we walk along a busy road and is scared of loud noises and buses, but as soon as we get off the main road, he calms down a lot. He would definitely do best in an area without busy roads or city." This happy boy loves everyone he meets and will make a wonderful family companion. He’d especially enjoy a pup or kid playmate to share life’s adventures.
