Story
On 9.22.2023, I found & rescued "Spunky" from a shopping centre. He had been dumped there, and the staff at the store nearby was feeding him & his brother dog until I came across them. As much as I desire to keep him, it’s just not feasible as I'm relocating to South Africa at the beginning of June & he cannot stay where I am residing. I think Spunky is around 1.5 years old as he is young & full of energy. He has done fantastic with our fellow neighbor dogs. He is well adjusted to being outside in nature as he has spent time on thirty (30) acres. In terms of commands, he knows sit very well and comes to me when I whistle. He is leash trained but also trained to go off leash yet remain within a radius of me when on walks. He has learned his boundaries quite well. Spunky needs LOTS of love & attention. He really lives up to his namesake when it comes to energy :-). Overall, his preference is to generally be where the humans are and would be perfectly fine as the only dog ❤️.

Story
Sandy is a sweet energetic dog who loves to play and run. She was born in Augest 28, 2023. She definitely needs a fenced in back yard. She’s kennel trained, house broken, and when you call treat treat she comes running and immediately sits waiting. Sandy is great with kids but sometimes plays a little rough but she’s also only a puppy. She’s great with other dogs and cats. She could use a little more training of course, she can be stubborn at times but she’s super sweet and smart. I want Sandy to go to a good home with a family who treat her right and have patience with her. Due to our landlord we can’t have another dog. Our big one is a service dog but Sandy is not. Please consider Sandy as a great addition to your home.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. No Apartments, Mobile Homes. Must have a fenced yard.I am Boomer!   My foster brother says I am a 'Chic Magnet'!   He takes me with him when ever he goes out with his friends.    I am very social and love everyone. I am a fun loving, talkative guy who loves my family. I especially love my 2 legged brother who talks back to me all the time.  We just received my DNA results and man are they crazy! I don't look like any of these and certainly am not as big as any of these breeds.   I know commands like come, down, sit, and I know when mom says 'time for bed', that means I run to my crate and she gives me a tasty treat. Mom doesn't like nasty puppy kisses, so she taught me to give hugs. That means I put my face next to her and she squeezes me for a hug. I am a really good boy and will be a fun guy for your family I love my foster brother David (he is really tall and stands on 2 feet - Weird! But I love to talk to him when he comes home from work, or when we wake up in the morning. We have some really great conversations.    I am a fun loving guy and would love to have a family of my own. I am ready for my forever family so apply to adopt me!   =========================================================       Please contact app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application .       Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area. Please call for specific locations.       Children under 8 years old often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs. In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
April 2024: Hershey is still great and available! Wonderful, friendly Staffordshire Terrier mix available with everything you need to give him a comfortable home. Hershey is about 6 and a very friendly and loving dog who can be energetic when you want him to be, but happy to lounge around the house most of the day. This handsome boy gets along great with everything from pekingese to great danes. Not good with cats, just can't keep his nose out of their business. Great with kids and loves to follow them around. House trained. Doesn't dig or chew items left on ground that aren't his toys. Only barks at door knocks/bell. Is afraid of rain/thunder and will hide. Loves long walks but just wants to be near you. Will snuggle and sleep with you. I've developed a health condition that keeps me from giving him a good home, so really care that he finds a great new one.
