I’m a big girl with a sharp mind, and a whole lot of enthusiasm for life. I can be very sweet and affectionate once I feel comfortable, but I’ll be honest, I like to do things my way sometimes. I know my manners, I just occasionally choose to test them. One of my absolute favorite things is water! I also love toys and can happily play fetch again and again. I’m strong, energetic, and always ready for my next adventure, which means I’ll need continued leash training and a confident handler to help guide me. With the right person who enjoys training, playing, and a dog with a little sass, I’ll make a fun, loyal, and loving companion.The highlights…-I love playing in water-Regular grooming is a must -Very stubborn-Weary of strangers at firstKey points to know…-I’m still learning my manners. Mello is looking for a loving home! Hi there! I’m still settling in. I’m new here, and my caregivers are still learning all about me. Some of my preferences and habits haven’t been fully explored yet, but that just means there’s more to discover together! What we’re still learning: 🐕 How I feel about other dogs 🚶 My leash skills 🏠 Whether I’m potty trained 👶 How I do with kids and new people What this means for you: I haven’t had full introductions with other dogs yet Slow, gentle interactions help me feel comfortable Staff are happy to help answer questions and guide meet-and-greets Thank you for being patient with me! With time, routine, and love, my true personality will shine ✨ Come meet me at High Country Humane, located at 11665 N. Highway 89, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. Our shelter is open Thursday–Tuesday, 11 am–5 pm, and closed on Wednesdays. Adopting with High Country Humane means your new pet is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped (we register it for free!). Each adoption also includes a free health exam. Please bring a leash and collar with you or plan to purchase them here. We can’t wait to help you meet your new furry friend!

Story
Meet Freddie our sweet one year old poodle mix. He weighs 15 pounds full grown. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all his vaccines. The vet sent him home with a clean bill of health and is now ready to find a home all his own. He is house trained and goes outside to do his business every couple hours when needed. Inside the home, he's pretty independent and keeps to himself unless you're calling him over for some love and attention. He's not the type to demand affection, but he absolutely soaks it up when it's offered. He is still getting the hang of walking on a leash and building confidence as his previous life as a breeder dog didn't include many outings, so everything is still a little unfamiliar to him but he's making steady progress. He enjoys spending quiet time out in the yard and will happily hang out on his own, especially if he's not quite ready to come inside. He's a bit of a hide and seek pro when he wants to be. Every day he gets a little braver, a little more curious, and a little more confident. He currently sleeps in his crate peacefully at night but I'm sure he would love his own bed next to yours if you prefer. He sleeps soundly through the night and settles in easily when you need to step out. What he needs now is someone with patients and a gentle heart, someone who understands that love and trust take time to grow. He'd thrive in a calm, nurturing home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. His adoption fee is $1500 which covers all vet costs, care and training since the time he's been with us.
