Story
Meet Becky with the Bangs ❤️🐾Becky is one of six dogs who were transferred to us after the USDA shut down a breeding operation in Ohio. We were not part of the initial rescue, but we are honored to now be part of Becky's journey and help her discover the life she should have always known.Becky is 5 years old, and sadly, she was never properly socialized. Human touch seems completely foreign to her. The simple things we often take for granted—being gently petted, receiving affection, being handled with kindness, or simply sitting beside a person—are all new experiences for her.We don't know everything Becky endured or what her life looked like before rescue, but we do know that she was not given the opportunity to learn that humans can be safe and loving.Because of this, Becky needs a very patient, calm, and understanding home. She isn't a dog who will immediately run up for cuddles or know how to accept affection. Her new family will need to give her time, respect her boundaries, and celebrate the little victories along the way.And those little victories will mean everything. ❤️Becky came to us with Kevin with the Curls, another mini doodle from the same case. They don't necessarily need to be adopted together, but Becky would do best with another friendly, confident dog who can help her feel secure and teach her that life can be good.Becky is 5 years old, spayed, and up to date on her vaccinations. She has spent her life without the love and socialization every dog deserves. Now, she finally has a chance to learn what it feels like to be someone's cherished companion.Becky doesn't need someone to rush her. She needs someone willing to wait for her.Someone who understands that trust takes time.Someone who will let her discover human touch at her own pace.Someone who will show her, every single day, that she is finally safe. 🏡❤️Becky's new life starts now. And we can't wait to see the girl she becomes. An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Story
Meet Artie ❤️If you're looking for a best friend who's equal parts goofy, loving, adventurous, and adorable, Artie may just be your perfect match.Artie came to DeKalb Humane Society from the amazing team at Shadarobah, who worked incredibly hard to help this sweet boy and give him the fresh start he deserves. He was transferred to us in hopes of finding his perfect forever family, and we're excited to help him get there. This handsome wire-haired mixed breed has the sweetest soul and a personality that shines once he gets comfortable. Artie loves spending time with his people, exploring the outdoors, running zoomies through the yard, and rolling dramatically in the dirt like it's his full-time job. He finds joy in the simple things—sunshine, fresh air, muddy paws, and a good belly rub. While Artie is incredibly loving with the people he knows and trusts, he can be very nervous around new people and busy environments. Because of this, he would do best in a quieter, lower-traffic home where he can take his time getting comfortable. Artie isn't the type of dog who wants to meet every stranger right away—he prefers slow introductions and a chance to build trust at his own pace. Once he feels safe, his affectionate and playful personality truly shines.Artie would thrive with a family who understands that not every dog is a social butterfly and is willing to help him navigate new situations with patience and encouragement. In return, you'll gain a loyal companion who forms deep bonds and loves wholeheartedly. He also loves spending time outdoors and would be thrilled to have a family that enjoys adventures as much as he does. And while he may come home a little dusty from his explorations, that scruffy coat is part of his charm! Because of his unique wire-haired coat, Artie will need regular grooming or a family willing to keep up with his coat care to keep him comfortable and looking handsome. If you're searching for a devoted companion with a goofy personality, a loving heart, and the cutest scruffy face around, Artie is waiting to meet you. ❤️An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Story
Hello, everyone! My name is Tater!I’m a 5.5-year-old Bichon Frise/Poodle mix, and I’m quite the distinguished little gentleman. I’m sweet, well-mannered, easygoing, and just an all-around lovely boy to have around.I recently came to FDHS with my brother and best friend, Tot. We’ve always been together, so we’re hoping to find a family who will let us continue life as a pair. We’re both such good boys, and there’s even a discount for adopting us together! We’re friendly with other animals and have very low-key personalities. We haven’t had much experience with children, but we’d likely do well with older or calmer kiddos who can appreciate our quiet, gentle nature. As a curly-coated king, I’ll need regular grooming to keep my coat looking and feeling its best. It’s a little extra upkeep, but I think a gentleman should always look his best.Tot and I were surrendered through no fault of our own, and we’re now ready to find a loving home! If you’re looking for two sweet, well-mannered boys to keep you company, we’d love to meet you.

Story
Well hello there! I’m Tot.At 5.5 years old, I’ve learned a thing or two about the finer things in life: good company, a comfortable place to relax, and having your favorite person nearby. I’m a little gentleman with a sweet disposition and a wonderfully easygoing personality.I came to FDHS with my brother, Tater, after our family could no longer care for us. We’re best friends and have always been together, so we’re hoping our next home will have room for both of us. We’re quite a lovely little pair, and there’s even a discount for adopting us together!I’m a friendly fellow who gets along well with other animals and doesn’t need a whole lot of excitement to be happy. I haven’t had much experience with children, so I’d likely be most comfortable with older or calmer kiddos. I’ll also need regular grooming to keep my coat in tip-top shape. I’m a rather handsome fellow, and I intend to stay that way.More than anything, I’m ready for a family to call my own again. Tater and I have been through a big change, but we’re both such good boys, and I’m hoping our next chapter is just around the corner!

🍫 Meet Twix! A Sweet Soul Just Waiting to Feel Safe! ❤️Twix is a sweet girl who deserves a chance to discover just how good life can be! She was surrendered to Loyal K9 after her breeding days were over and was later transferred to DeKalb Humane Society. Now, she's hoping her next chapter will be a little different — one filled with love, comfort, and a family of her own.Twix is a bit more skittish than her friend Casey, and new people and situations can feel a little overwhelming for her. But if you take a moment to look past that nervousness, you'll see a girl who really does want love. She just needs a little help finding the courage to accept it. ❤️Twix has a sweet soul, and you can tell there's a loving little dog in there who wants to feel safe and connect with someone. She'll need a patient person who understands that trust takes time and who will let her come out of her shell at her own pace. She's also a little shorter and more compact than Casey, but don't let her smaller stature fool you — this girl has a whole lot of sweetness waiting to bloom! After her time as a breeding dog, Twix deserves to learn that the world can be a kind place, that gentle hands can be trusted, and that she can finally have a person who puts her first.Twix doesn't need someone to rush her. She needs someone willing to give her a chance. ❤️ If you have a little patience and a lot of love to offer, come meet Twix at DeKalb Humane Society. Let's help this sweet girl find the safe, loving home she deserves! 🐾An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt.
