Story
London turned 11 and got… surrendered to a shelter. Not the sort of birthday surprise anyone hopes for, least of all a gentle, steady soul like him. No wrongdoing. No misbehavior. Just the kind of “usual reasons” that break your heart precisely because they never make sense to the dog who loses everything. He tried to be brave about it, but some dogs feel loss deeply, and London is the tender sort. So a kind volunteer stepped in, offering him a soft place to land while he steadied himself and remembered what safety feels like.London’s a Poodle/Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, and seems to have inherited the best traits from each - intelligent, perceptive, affectionate, loyal, snuggly. He’s healthy, neutered, and housetrained, too. He’s lived with humans of every age and other dogs, and has never started so much as a grumble of trouble. His former owner called him “the sweetest, calmest, most gentle dog I have ever had or met,” and that’s not marketing speak. That’s the truth of him.London is the kind of elder statesman who finds joy in simple things, like choosing the perfect sunbeam or relocating from one soft bed to another just to keep life interesting. Age has granted him the enviable superpower of peacefulness. He is content to be next to you, near you, or quietly keeping watch from whatever comfortable spot he’s claimed for the afternoon. If you’re ready for a companion who won’t overwhelm your life but will quietly enrich it, London is waiting.***IN FOSTER: To meet him, please call (757) 865-0511 or email contact@animalaidsociety.org to schedule an appointment.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, with visiting hours from 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.Interested? Story
Meet Turkey !! Him and his brother Ham recently came into the rescue. They are going extremely well and looking for separate homes only. (Ham is posted separately) Turkey is an 5 month old, male Lab and Poodle mix. He weighs 27 pounds. The dad was a large lab and mom a standard poodle. He will be a larger dogs. “Doodles” ARE NOT HYPOALLERGENIC!! This is a common misconception with the doodle craze. They generally have a mixed hair type of both parents. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is thankfully Heartworm negative and on preventatives. Turkey came to us with limited training and socialization aside from his brother. He’s learning a lot in his foster home. He’s also building his confidence. He is a very sweet, playful and active puppy. He does great with other dogs. He can try to be a bit dominant at times but takes corrections from dogs very well. He would do great with a dog to help teach him how to be his best self. He loves playing so another active playmate would be great for him. We recently did a cat test with him and he did great. Turkey was raised around small kids and is very loving toward them. He is however a big energetic puppy. He still jumps on people when excited. He may jump on or knock over little ones on accident. He is working hard on his puppy training but still has a ways to go. He is crate trained but won’t always go in on his own. He can be vocal about not wanting to be in there but he is learning. He was timid on the leash at first but is doing better now. He will pull if he sees a squirrel or something he thinks looks fun to chase. Turkey is well behaved on car rides and sits still. He does drool a lot on rides but we don’t think he’s gone on many rides. He will likely improve with more experience. He is doing better with potty training but is not completely potty trained. He needs routine and consistency along with being let out regularly. He needs an active family prepared to meet his energy needs and training needs. Both poodles and labs are breeds with a ridiculous amount of energy. When you mix these breeds together you typically get a highly energetic dog that requires more time and effort to exercise. A dog that is not given the proper outlet for their energy quickly becomes frustrated and will act out with negative behaviors. This is why it is vital to not pick a high energy dog if you are not committed to the work that comes with it. This sweet boy needs to play and run multiple times a day EVERY DAY. Rain or shine, hot or cold, if you’re tired or not, he needs this from you. He would do best with a fenced yard or an active daily runner. If you cannot commit to that level of exercise please pick one of our awesome lower energy pups. Turkey LOVES toys of any kind. He does destroy the plush ones and tries to eat them so it is better for him to have stronger toys and bones. He is in the chewing stage so he needs to be watched when he’s out and redirected toward what he is supposed to chew on. He has not had any issues sharing toys, treats or food with humans. He’s shared well with other dogs so far but is fed separately so we aren’t sure how he would do about other dogs and his food. His foster says overall he’s a good puppy that just needs time and structure to learn. 🛑🛑GROOMING “Doodles” are a mix of two breeds and despite the hype they generally have hair from both dogs they are bred from. This causes terrible matting and means they require lots of brushing. They also usually need to be professionally groomed at least every 6 weeks. For a “Doodle” this is usually over $100 every time, as their hair mixture can be very difficult to work with. If you aren’t willing to provide the time and finances toward his grooming please pick a different dog to adopt Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for faster response and to see more photos message our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Hi there, my name is Atlas. I just turned three years old but still move like Im a puppy! Im very excitable, rambunctious and love to use my paws for just about everything. I need a very large yard to run full speed from fence to fence, without it my life will go unfulfilled. I need lots of loving and pets from all my humans or I will get very vocal with my boredom. Im very good with other dogs and small children but I occasionally counter surf.
