Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained,
Story
We were hopeful that he would be trained to help support our son with disabilities. He’s very energetic and loving. Unfortunately we aren’t able to give him all the attention he needs to get his energy out. He’s a good dog but requires a lot of play and walks. He has some anxiety and has show aggression around his food with our children. He is incredibly smart. We are heartbroken to realize that he needs more care and support than we can give him. He deserves a great home with folks who can play with him a few times a day.

Story
Meet Bear !! This boy is so sweet. He’s shy at first but then super fun. Very energetic and needs a fun and active family. Bear is a 2 year old, male, Poodle and Aussie mix. (Yes that’s right, a “Doodle” is just a mixed breed that can favor the characteristics of either parent.) He currently weighs 50 pounds. He was dna tested and is 50/50 those breeds. He is neutered, microchipped and update on his vaccines. He is thankfully Heartworm negative. He is NOT hypoallergenic (most “doodles” are not and many get rehomed due to that common misconception!) He does shed less than a regular dog. He is a good boy with a decent training foundation already. He’s a bit shy and timid at first and then very loyal and loving. He’s been with his litter mate for too long and a lot of his shy nature is due to that. It’s a very unhealthy bond that causes him to not progress and grow confident. The two are being separated to help them both grow and progress. Bear is doing very well with the separation. He would love another dog in the home he goes to but isn’t very concerned about his brothers absence. Bear loves playing and needs an outlet for his energy. He needs his new family to commit to exercise so he can be his best self. He loves fetch and if you are willing to throw his squeaky toy or a ball over and over he will be your best friend. He is doing great with potty training. He does good on car rides. He is pretty good on the leash. He’s used to walks but will get scared sometimes and try to pull away in new places. He’s crate trained but has been a bit vocal lately while he works through learning to be alone and apart from his brother. Bear has been great with all other dogs he’s met. He did very good at the vet with not reacting to strange dogs even ones barking at him. He’s never been around cats so we don’t know how he would do. He’s been excellent with children and has grown up around them. He has not had any trouble sharing treats, toys or food with other dogs or people. He is shy with meeting new people but warms up very quickly. Bear needs an active family prepared to meet his energy needs and training needs. Both poodles and Aussies are breeds with a ridiculous amount of energy. When you mix these breeds together you typically get a highly energetic dog that requires more time and effort to exercise. A dog that is not given the proper outlet for their energy quickly becomes frustrated and will act out with negative behaviors. This is why it is vital to not pick a high energy dog if you are not committed to the work that comes with it. This sweet boy needs to play and run multiple times a day EVERY DAY. Rain or shine, hot or cold, if you’re tired or not, he needs this from you. He would do best with a fenced yard or an active daily runner. If you cannot commit to that level of exercise, please pick one of our awesome lower energy pups. ♦️♦️GROOMING “Doodles” are a mix of two breeds and despite the hype they generally have hair from both dogs they are bred from. This causes terrible matting and means they require lots of brushing. They also usually need to be professionally groomed at least every 6 weeks. For a “Doodle” this is usually over $100 every time, often more as their hair mixture can be very difficult to work with. If you aren’t willing to provide the time and finances toward his grooming, please pick a different dog to adopt Overall, he is a very sweet dog that is great with kids. He has a wonderful personality, and if you’re willing to keep him mentally and physically tired, he’s going to be a magnificent dog!! Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2-hour drive radius) ‼️For questions or to get an application message the VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for more photos and faster response visit our Facebook Page directly .‼️
