Story
Meet Stark !! This very handsome boy is so sweet. He's a big guy that thinks he's a tiny lapdog. He needs an active and fun family willing to work on his manners. Stark is an almost 4 year old, male, Poodle and lab mix. *(Yes that's right, a 'Doodle' is just a mixed breed that can favor the characteristics of either parent.) He weighs 77 pounds and is full grown. He is neutered, microchipped and update on his vaccines. He is thankfully Heartworm negative. He is NOT hypoallergenic (most 'doodles' are not and many get rehomed due to that common misconception!) Stark is a big ball of love! Hes super affectionate and loves to snuggle. He just soaks up all the love and attention he can get. He is however a bit of a bull in a china shop kinda guy. He has zero concept of his size and lacks manners and basic training. With a firm and consistent owner to guide him we think this guy will be amazing in no time. He loves playing and needs an outlet for his energy. He loves fetch and squeaky toys. Anything fun and exciting he's ready to do. He needs his new family to commit to exercise so he can be his best self. Stark is fantastic about potty training. He does good on car rides. He needs leash training, he currently pulls pretty hard. He's crate trained but wasn't using one anymore with his previous owner. Our foster family crates him when they leave. He will bark and howl in protest but gives up after a bit. He's learning to accept the crate more each day. He has been great with all other dogs he's met aside from one. Not sure why those two didn't like each other but no problems with any others. He is a pushy player. He will trample over other dogs and doesn't always know when to calm down. He needs some guidance from his humans on when to settle down during play time. He's lived with cats and does well but if they run he will often chase them. Stark loves everyone and that includes kids HOWEVER he is big, hyper, goofy, untrained, doesn't know his own size and will likely not do well with small kids. He's also mouthy when he plays. If you have smaller kids they really aren't going to enjoy any of that. He's not at all aggressive, just a wild child at times. He has not had any trouble sharing treats, toys or food with other dogs or people. Stark needs an active family prepared to meet his energy needs and training needs. Both labs and poodles are breeds with a lot of energy. When you mix these breeds together you typically get a highly energetic dog that requires more time and effort to exercise. A dog that is not given the proper outlet for their energy quickly becomes frustrated and will act out with negative behaviors. This is why it is vital to not pick a high energy dog if you are not committed to the work that comes with it. This sweet boy needs to play and run multiple times a day EVERY DAY. Rain or shine, hot or cold, if you're tired or not, he needs this from you. He will need a fenced yard to be happy. If you cannot commit to that level of exercise please pick one of our awesome lower energy pups. 🛑🛑GROOMING 'Doodles' are a mix of two breeds and despite the hype they generally have hair from both dogs they are bred from. This causes terrible matting and means they require lots of brushing. They also usually need to be professionally groomed at least every 6 weeks. For a 'Doodle' this is usually over $100 every time, often more as their hair mixture can be very difficult to work with. If you aren't willing to provide the time and finances toward his grooming please pick a different dog to adopt Overall, he is a very sweet dog that is attached to his people and will follow you everywhere. He has a wonderful personality, and if you're willing to help him finish up his training, he's going to be a magnificent dog!! Vet and home checks required. Fenced yard required Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️MESSAGE VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.‼️ Make sure you've read the post carefully first so we know you are a serious adopter.

Story
Meet Hershey!Hershey arrived at the shelter with his sweet submissive sister Lilly. Lilly was adopted and now it is Hershey's turn to find his new family! We think Hershey did well with his sister because she let him be the star of the show. He has since let us know that he will rule the roost in his next home. That means he must go to a family without any other dogs. He is not willing to share his toys, food and most importantly his people! Why should he have to share? He's adorable!Hershey has been a great guest during our Spring Animal Camp, birthday parties and kid's movie nights held at Heritage Humane Society. He does well with kids and the people he has met here at the shelter. Our volunteers have taken him on fieldtrips to a senior living community, Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary and he has done well with everyone he met. With that said, it will be important to watch for possessiveness in the home. What we know of his history would strongly imply that he might become possessive of one (or more) family members, even towards other members of the household. If you are interested in meeting the giant fluff or just have some questions about how he might fit into your household, please come visit him!One of Hershey's endearing quirks is his tendency to chatter his teeth when he's truly excited. Think of it as his own happy little jingle to let you know he's thrilled to see you!Check out Hershey with Brett Cahoon from Good Shot Judy during their recent debut on The Tide! What a good boy!
