Story
My name is Rugrat and I am a black & white border collie/mix. I am a spayed female and I am 6 months old. I was transferred here from another shelter/rescue through the Ames Animal Shelter`s Third Chance program on 10/14/2026. I didn`t do anything wrong to be transferred. That shelter was getting a bit full and asked for the Ames Animal Shelter`s help. I had a great time getting to know their staff and volunteers, and I`m super excited to be here at this shelter to find my forever home!I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience, but I can be just a little shy when meeting new people. Taking me for lots of walks and meeting new people will help me with that a lot. The shelter staff is not sure if I am used to being crated during the day, but I`m fairly comfortable with being kept in a kennel run at the shelters. I get along with women and children. I do great with men too, but it takes me a little extra time to warm up to them. I haven`t been tested with cats or other dogs, but the shelter staff believes I would do great with proper introductions.
