Story
MEET SAMSON! This little 8-year-old boy needs a home! Samson is a Chihuahua mix on paper, but could have some Dachshund in him given his slender nose and longer body. He's got the most interesting color patterns and floppy ears. Whatever his mix, he's cute. Samson is a bit sky & timid at first, but once he gets to know you he will be happy for attention. He gets along great with other dogs, though is more submissive so should not be with an alpha dog. He already had a dental and is neutered, vaccinated & chipped. Samson weighs 10 lbs. He would do best in a quiet home with a single person, a couple or a family with older kids. Please email for an application.

Story
Hi - my name is Rigby and I was just recently rescued from a California shelter, where I was impounded as a stray and made urgent not too long after. I had pretty bad teeth, so my rescuers just took me in for a dental, where I had my teeth cleaned and 13 teeth pulled! I am quiet and easygoing, and I do well with other dogs. I would love a home where I can retired, have a nice, relaxing life and have a person or people who love me. I weigh only 7 pounds! Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Freddy, the pom-chi (pomerianian x chihuahua mix!). Freddy originally came to the Shelter as a stray. A good Samaritan had been seeing him on and off form months in the neighborhood. They were feeding him and attempting to keep him safe but could not care for him long term. They brought him to the Shelter for us to find his guardians and, in the event they did not come forward, a new family. Freddy’s guardians did not come forward and we started to get to know the little guy. He spent some time in a home environment where we learned that he would thrive with a patient, dog savvy adopter that will give him the time and patience to decompress. House training, being left alone, and other modern day dog related things are fairly new to Freddy and will take time for him to learn. The best way to bond and learn with his new people will be through force free, positive reinforcement based training. Freddy is food and toy motivated so this makes the task a whole lot easier, and FUN! Freddy loves to grab things around the house and carry them around but does not love when the items are taken from him. Resource guarding is a fairly normal dog thing and can fluctuate in frequency depending on value of item, stressors, and relationship with the people/animals in the interaction. Guardians should prioritize keeping items Freddy should not have access to out of reach and, if he does gain access to an item, always trade for a higher value item. Working with a behavior consultant may be in an adopter’s best interest to help learn some skills on the human-side of the leash to aide in management and safety in these interactions. At the Shelter, Freddy has met some canines and demonstrated he may enjoy a buddy. Any resident dogs are recommended to meet prior to adoption. We do not have any history with cats or children. Although Freddy is endearing and oh-so adorable, he is looking for a dog-savvy adopter to meet his needs. Could that be you? Now through February 15th, we are hosting “Adopt Your Valentine” where adoption fees are reduced to $50. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchips. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before
