No walks. Very little socialization. A lot of time in his crate and not much affection or play. Because of that, Peter learned to rely on himself. When he feels unsure, he prefers to protect his space.Peter is not a dog who wants to be scooped up or fussed over right away. He likes to take things slow and build trust at his own pace. Once he feels safe, you will see him relax. If he gets overwhelmed, he may give a small warning to ask for space. It is simply his way of communicating that he needs a minute. He is very clear about his comfort level, which makes it easier to read him and respond appropriately.Once Peter gets to know you, he softens. He enjoys chest and belly scratches from people he trusts. He is housebroken. He has lived peacefully with another small dog in the past and has been able to coexist with other dogs here at the shelter. He does best when life feels calm and predictable.Peter would love a quieter home with adults who are patient, kind, and believe in going slow. He may always be a sensitive soul, and that is okay. With consistency and understanding, dogs like Peter can grow in ways that are truly special to witness.If you believe in giving a dog the time he was never given before, Peter would love to meet you.
