Story
Dixie is a 2-year-old coonhound mix who came to us from a Kentucky animal control. She is currently around 45lbs. Dixie is looking for a family that loves the howls of a hound! She is a sweet girl and seems to enjoy romping around with the dogs in the run next to her. She's very curious and excited about life. She does need work on leash manners as she tends to jump up as she gets excited to see people! Dixie has done well with meeting dogs, but is very loud, which some dogs do not enjoy.

Story
Meet Spencer! Spencer is a really handsome 54lb hound mix with a tri-color that is mostly white, with some chestnut on his face and ears and super cute cow spots of black on his body. Spencer is so playful and fun. He has legs for days and would love a younger dog as a playmate and a fenced in yard to run in and explore. Spencer is true to what appears to be at least part of his breed in that he will sniff out small prey like chipmunks, etc. so we don’t recommend a home with any other small non-dog animals as pets. But other dogs in the home? Oh 100% yes, that is really the best environment for this social guy! Spencer is brave, and did we mention playful, and is lots of fun to have around. He loves meeting new people and is up for adventure as he loves riding in cars, visiting dog-friendly places and checking out new things. Because he is energetic and wants to play, Spencer’s ideal family will be one that is not gone long hours of the day or is one that will utilize a reputable doggie daycare where he can play with new friends nonstop. We would love for you to meet this social guy so please fill out the adoption app right away! The adoption fee of $250 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 10:25 am

Story
Meet Poppyseed, aka Poppy! Poppy is a fun loving 1 yr old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix boy, and playing with fur friends and human friends is his favorite thing ever! Poppy is around 53 lbs and is looking for a family to go on adventures with. If you don't know about hounds, they love and thrive on sniffing and exploring. Long walks/hikes and playdates with other pups are going to be bit hits with this loving guy. He adores people of course! He would do best in a home with kids 8+ only just because he is so joyful and exuberant - and could knock over litter ones. A fenced in yard or a very outdoorsy active family would be amazing. Time to meet this boy? Fill out your app today!  If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . After we review your completed survey we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. Do get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart: Park in the PetSmart Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. Story
Meet Copper, a 5-month-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who's ready to bring joy and energy to your home! Weighing in at about 32 pounds, Copper is a bundle of playful spirit and hound dog charm. He's been making great progress with house training and crate training, though he can be quite vocal when first put in his crate—it's his hound nature coming through. After a little while, he calms down and settles in. He's also been using a doggy door to let himself out to go to the bathroom, so accidents are rare. Copper's favorite activities include running around the house or yard with his canine pals, playing fetch, chewing on bones, and playing with toys. He's a social butterfly, getting along famously with other dogs, cats, and kids. He's friendly, happy, playful, and loyal—all the qualities that make him an ideal family dog. Just be aware that shared walls might not be ideal since he can be vocal at times. His foster mom describes him as the sweetest little hound dog with the cutest floppy ears and puppy dog eyes. Copper loves to curl up next to his people on the couch, and he's always asking for belly rubs. His tail never stops wagging! When he's not snuggling, he's busy playing tug of war with his foster dog siblings or chasing after toys. He's an easygoing puppy who enjoys playing in the yard with kids and other dogs. Copper would fit in well with most families, but his dream home would be with a family that has either a doggy playmate or kids. If you're looking for a fun, energetic, and affectionate companion, Copper might be the perfect match. His minimum adoption fee is $350 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
