Story
Sweet Wilbur was in a high kill shelter in North Carolina. He was literally minutes away from being euthanized. We were already taking a female Walker Hound from this shelter when we got the call about Wilbur. The shelter director called us and asked if we could possibly take Wilbur as well, since he was about to be put to sleep. Well of course we said yes and the two were immediately transported to us. Wilbur was found as a stray and his owner was actually located but chose not to come and get since he wasn't the "perfect" hunter, sad. Well, we are happy that we saved him because he is just the sweetest, most gentle boy you will ever meet. He has been neutered and is fully vaccinated. He is crate trained, microchipped and heart worm negative. A large fenced yard is preferred for these hounds as they like to wander if not properly contained and we do not allow our dogs to be tied up outside. He is good with cats and young children as well, just the perfect hound dog! PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE $500

Story
We saw sweet Ginny on Facebook. She was a stray that ended up in a high kill shelter in Virginia. Shortly after she arrived she gave birth to 4 puppies. The shelter had no idea that she was pregnant because she was nothing but skin and bones. We knew we somehow had to get her here to Tennessee so we put our thinking caps on and a lot of wonderful volunteers drove her to our pick up spot in southern VA where our regular transporter picked her and the babies up on his way back to Nashville. We met them in Nashville at 1 AM and drove the family 100 miles back to the rescue. We knew Ginny was young, possibly still a pup herself and our vet confirmed that she was only 11 months at the time of the puppy's birth. Her pups have all been adopted and now it's Ginny's turn! Walker Hounds are very high energy dogs and can be a little stubborn so make sure you research the breed before you make the choice to adopt. We insist on a fenced yard for her so she can have room to free run and enjoy the rest of her life. These dogs are the number one dumped off breed as their owners will desert them if they don't hunt the way they want them too! We have several of them here at the rescue for that very reason. They are fun loving couch potatoes and will bring you many years of joy and happiness! PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE $650

Meet Buddy Ray, he is a 18 month old Tree Walker Hound with a silly personality. Buddy loves going for walks, hikes and exploring just as much as he loves his cuddle time. Buddy is currently in a foster home with puppies who he enjoys playing the daddy role with. Buddy is looking for an active home where he can go on adventures and play. He is a little hesitant about getting in a vehicle but once in he rides great and actually enjoys himself. Buddy loves kids and would love a home with a teenage boy or girl to play with. If you are a person who enjoys going to the beach, hiking or just looking for a companion then Buddy is perfect for you.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Duke is a 6 year old treeing walker coonhound who was found as a stray in rural NC. He is a beautiful leash walker and would be a great hiking companion for someone.  Duke is very affectionate and happy. He enjoys his family and although he loves to be outdoors enjoys a soft bed !! Duke has very manageable resource guarding in a home environment- so will need an experienced adopter and a child-free home. Which is a shame because he loves children and is very gentle with them. He can go anywhere with you as he is very friendly and fun.  Duke would do best with another dog or dogs in a home with a fenced in yard. If you are interested submit an application at njshpetrescue.org.  * You must live within 90 minutes of Chester NJ to be considered as an in-person home visit is required for all adoptionsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 28, 2024, 11:08 am

Henry is an 8 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound. He weighs 41 pounds and is about 22 inches tall from floor to his back. He hasshort, tri-colored hair. Henry is a very chill dog who loves being with people. He will cuddle with his foster brother who is basset hound on the same bed but they don't really play. Heloves going for walks and meeting new people.    His favorite things to do are walking and being a watch dog.   He loves watching what is going on around the house.   He is good with other dogs and has loved every dog he has met but he is not the type to run and play with them.  He is much more chill.   He is good with cats and does not seem phased by them at all. Henry is housebroken and crate trained.   He is just a super happy dog who loves kids. Henry likes meeting new people. He wags his tail andapproaches. He does not jump or get overly excited. If you would like to meet this adorable boy fill out an application. Interested in adopting this pet?Click here for BCAA's on-line Application! Story
This is the story of Mack. Mack was born on 9/12/13 as part of a litter of 6. His Mom was a Vizsla/Hound mix and we have no idea who Dad was. He was the largest pup of the litter at birth. As the litter grew and was nursing on Mom, we quickly learned that she was giardia positive (an intestinal parasite). It was an unfortunate circumstance since we were certain she was passing it on to the pups. Since they were so young when they started showing signs of suffering from this parasite, there wasn’t much we could do other than wait for them to get to an age when we could treat it. One by one, they fell ill and then re-cooperated once treatment started. Mack on the other hand, did not seem to bounce back like the others. In fact, he fell ill with this parasite more than once in his puppyhood. We treated him each time and suffered with him during his periods of dehydration, not eating, and just feeling yucky. More than once, we had to force feed him for more than a week. He had no energy. We were giving him fluids three times a day just to keep him alive. There was a point where we did not think he would make it for certain. But we weren’t giving up on him. I think he knew that, and this caused him to hang in there with us no matter how bad he felt. At 10wks, he weighed only 4.8lbs when his siblings were in the 10-12lb range. Because the parasite took every bit of nutrition we were force feeding him, he was way behind in growth & development. When he finally turned the corner and started eating on his own, he was unstoppable. He would eat every 2 hrs and simply couldn’t get enough. We were elated! At 15wks, he was only about 2/3rds the size of his siblings, but he’d eat like a horse and we’d pump him up with vitamins every day. As you can see from his pictures, he is certainly 1 happy pup to be alive! UPDATE: We have now found it necessary to list Mack as a "Special Needs" adopt. After an oral exam, the vet determined that since he was sick for so long during puppyhood, he will need a yearly dental examination. The enamel on his teeth is not as strong as it should be and is chipping off. We've been told that there is nothing to do about it at this time other than give him soaked kibble as meals. He also cannot have any hard treats or toys as that will only promote the chipping of the enamel. He seems very happy and spoiled about this and is healthy as can be at about 55lbs now as an adult :) Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records. All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Unless otherwise indicated, puppies are NOT spayed or neutered since our vet recommends waiting until 6mos of age to do so. Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!! Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next adoption days.
