Story
A 16-month-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix, Journee’s name came from the English word for “journey,” or a trip of some kind. This name suits her well because her life so far has been a journey, the destination being a loving forever home. Journee’s foster saw her in the kill shelter, pulled her out, and brought her home and into rescue. She was 5 months old then, about 10 months old now, and in the 5 months since her rescue, she has grown almost to her full size of 55 pounds. Her short coat is tricolor, but mostly white, and her eyes big and brown and hopeful. She loves children, other dogs, and even cats. Being adopted would mean the end of her journey because she would have found you WAITING FOR HER at home. (TN,7/30/24) (REVISED 12/10/23) (age updated 6/19/24  ME)  **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption Fee/Transport Fee: $250.00  We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip . We make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs.  July 25, 2024, 4:15 pm

Story
Dolly is a 2.5 year old spayed female coonhound mix who weighs 50 lbs. Dolly was rescued from a desperate situation. She was one of 30 dogs and puppies living in a small home. Their owners reached out for help due to medical issues, and the local rural shelter was unable to provide them any assistance other than euthanasia due to overcrowding. We are grateful help was sought and we were able to do our part to keep these dogs safe! If you remember the Bluey litter of heeler/hound puppies we had available for adoption last summer, Dolly is their mama! She is now ready to find a forever home of her very own. This beautiful girl is quite the catch! She is great with other dogs but does not rely on them. Whether she is an only dog, has a bunch of doggy siblings, or simple socializes regularly in her forever family, she'll be content. She'd prefer a home without cats. Dolly loves human interaction once she gets to know you. She can be a little shy at first but is quick to trust if given the chance. Dolly walks great on a leash, and she is house- and crate-trained. This girl has looks AND brains! She is super smart and treat motivated. Her ears are as soft as velvet - just like her personality! We absolutely adore this mama and cannot wait to find her the devoted forever family she so desperately deserves! Interested in adopting? Story
This is the story of Mack. Mack was born on 9/12/13 as part of a litter of 6. His Mom was a Vizsla/Hound mix and we have no idea who Dad was. He was the largest pup of the litter at birth. As the litter grew and was nursing on Mom, we quickly learned that she was giardia positive (an intestinal parasite). It was an unfortunate circumstance since we were certain she was passing it on to the pups. Since they were so young when they started showing signs of suffering from this parasite, there wasn’t much we could do other than wait for them to get to an age when we could treat it. One by one, they fell ill and then re-cooperated once treatment started. Mack on the other hand, did not seem to bounce back like the others. In fact, he fell ill with this parasite more than once in his puppyhood. We treated him each time and suffered with him during his periods of dehydration, not eating, and just feeling yucky. More than once, we had to force feed him for more than a week. He had no energy. We were giving him fluids three times a day just to keep him alive. There was a point where we did not think he would make it for certain. But we weren’t giving up on him. I think he knew that, and this caused him to hang in there with us no matter how bad he felt. At 10wks, he weighed only 4.8lbs when his siblings were in the 10-12lb range. Because the parasite took every bit of nutrition we were force feeding him, he was way behind in growth & development. When he finally turned the corner and started eating on his own, he was unstoppable. He would eat every 2 hrs and simply couldn’t get enough. We were elated! At 15wks, he was only about 2/3rds the size of his siblings, but he’d eat like a horse and we’d pump him up with vitamins every day. As you can see from his pictures, he is certainly 1 happy pup to be alive! UPDATE: We have now found it necessary to list Mack as a "Special Needs" adopt. After an oral exam, the vet determined that since he was sick for so long during puppyhood, he will need a yearly dental examination. The enamel on his teeth is not as strong as it should be and is chipping off. We've been told that there is nothing to do about it at this time other than give him soaked kibble as meals. He also cannot have any hard treats or toys as that will only promote the chipping of the enamel. He seems very happy and spoiled about this and is healthy as can be at about 55lbs now as an adult :) Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records. All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Unless otherwise indicated, puppies are NOT spayed or neutered since our vet recommends waiting until 6mos of age to do so. Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!! Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next adoption days. Details are on our site under the "How to Adopt" tab. Hope to see you there!July 14, 2024, 12:16 am

Story
ABOUT LOUISE Louise is a super sweet 1 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound. She was originally found wandering as a stray in West Virginia with her friend, Thelma. Their local animal control did not have space for them, so HAP stepped in to save them from euthanasia. While Louise was found with Thelma, they are not a bonded pair, but can be adopted together. Louise requires a home with another dog to help build her confidence. We aren't sure of her past or what she may have endured, but she can be a bit reserved or nervous when first meeting people. Once she knows you're safe, she is sure to melt into your lap for love. Louise enjoys playtime, but is a huge fan of naptime! When she's not taking a snooze or playing with her friends, she is likely nose to the ground sniffing away on a walk! In true hound nature, she enjoys telling you what's on her mind and letting out some howls. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Let me introduce Ralphie, one of the coolest dogs in our rescue! His foster mother has medical issues, and she wants him to find his furever home ASAP! This awesome guy was abandoned in the woods, alone in the middle of nowhere, when he was still a puppy – scared and left to die young. He is extremely sweet. Ralphie loves toys and playing fetch - playtime is high on his wish list. He is very friendly, never meets a stranger, and loves absolutely everyone he meets. He still has a puppy spirit and needs activity & exercise! He would be great for an active family that hikes or runs, as long as there are cuddles and belly rubs. His leash walking is progressing well. He gets along well with other dogs with proper introduced. He will be happiest as a loving family companion. We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport. We'll transport to a destination near you every weekend, alternating between the Northeast and the Great Lakes.

Story
Dear diary, I've been in my foster home for a while now waiting for my forever home. I'm generally a nervous girl, but I feel safe to trust my foster humans, and I've even been spending some time with other doggies! I've discovered that even though I feel bashful at first, I reeeeeeally like playtime with other canine companions - sometimes I get big bursts of energy and can hardly contain myself! At the same time, I'm still an introvert, and I need my "relax and recharge" time, which I usually spend hanging out in my crate with one of my favorite toys. I've been having a blast, but I'm still really excited to find a forever home with someone who is as gentle and sweet as me. I've also decided that I cannot go to a home that doesn't have a doggie companion for me - I need a canine friend to help ease my mind. I will keep you posted...
