Story
This is the story of Mack. Mack was born on 9/12/13 as part of a litter of 6. His Mom was a Vizsla/Hound mix and we have no idea who Dad was. He was the largest pup of the litter at birth. As the litter grew and was nursing on Mom, we quickly learned that she was giardia positive (an intestinal parasite). It was an unfortunate circumstance since we were certain she was passing it on to the pups. Since they were so young when they started showing signs of suffering from this parasite, there wasn’t much we could do other than wait for them to get to an age when we could treat it. One by one, they fell ill and then re-cooperated once treatment started. Mack on the other hand, did not seem to bounce back like the others. In fact, he fell ill with this parasite more than once in his puppyhood. We treated him each time and suffered with him during his periods of dehydration, not eating, and just feeling yucky. More than once, we had to force feed him for more than a week. He had no energy. We were giving him fluids three times a day just to keep him alive. There was a point where we did not think he would make it for certain. But we weren’t giving up on him. I think he knew that, and this caused him to hang in there with us no matter how bad he felt. At 10wks, he weighed only 4.8lbs when his siblings were in the 10-12lb range. Because the parasite took every bit of nutrition we were force feeding him, he was way behind in growth & development. When he finally turned the corner and started eating on his own, he was unstoppable. He would eat every 2 hrs and simply couldn’t get enough. We were elated! At 15wks, he was only about 2/3rds the size of his siblings, but he’d eat like a horse and we’d pump him up with vitamins every day. As you can see from his pictures, he is certainly 1 happy pup to be alive! UPDATE: We have now found it necessary to list Mack as a "Special Needs" adopt. After an oral exam, the vet determined that since he was sick for so long during puppyhood, he will need a yearly dental examination. The enamel on his teeth is not as strong as it should be and is chipping off. We've been told that there is nothing to do about it at this time other than give him soaked kibble as meals. He also cannot have any hard treats or toys as that will only promote the chipping of the enamel. He seems very happy and spoiled about this and is healthy as can be at about 55lbs now as an adult :) Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records. All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Unless otherwise indicated, puppies are NOT spayed or neutered since our vet recommends waiting until 6mos of age to do so. Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!! Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next adoption days. Details are on our site under the "How to Adopt" tab. Hope to see you there!August 20, 2026, 12:26 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Duke is about 9 years old and 50 lbs., found as a stray in rural NC. He is a beautiful leash walker, wonderful in the car, is housetrained and would be a great hiking companion for someone! Duke is very affectionate and happy. He enjoys his family and, although he loves to be outdoors, he also enjoys a soft bed! Duke has very manageable resource guarding in a home environment- so will need an experienced adopter and a child-free home. Which is a shame because he loves children and is very gentle with them. He can go anywhere with you as he is very friendly and fun and is good with cats too! Duke would do best with another dog or dogs in a home with a fenced-in yard. He is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Story
Come meet me and 100+ of my adoptable friends at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue's MEGA adoption event, Home for the Holidays! Saturday, November 22nd, 2025 at Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, NJ from 11am - 3pm! Meet Copper! Copper is a 3 month old, 9 pound coonhound mix puppy who is sweet as can be! Copper is very affectionate and is happiest laying in the lap of his favorite people. He plays gently with the children in his foster home, enjoying a game of tug or chasing a ball that they throw for him. He has quite the appetite and will be happy to work for a treat! He is working hard on weewee pad training until he is old enough to go for walks. He will whine for a short time if left alone but settles quickly and sleeps in his crate quietly overnight with his littermate who he is being fostered with. These days he is enjoying playtime and snuggles with his foster family, wrestling with his brother, chewing on bully sticks, playing with toys and waiting patiently for a forever family to call his own! Copper is being fostered in Staten Island, NY. His adoption fee is $550. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Luna is sweet and gentle with humans of all ages, and develops strong bonds with people she loves. She is a typical coonhound: persistent, stubborn, affectionate, independent, mellow and lazy at home but with a very strong prey drive for everything from rabbits to bears. She has displayed patience and tolerance towards other dogs including puppies and she will draw her own boundaries when she’s had enough. She has a mild to moderate tendency to resource guard food from other dogs. Luna loves sniffy walks but she needs some help with her leash manners. She would do best in a home with a fenced in yard as she can be loud and loves being outside to sunbathe and sniff around the fence. She is not cat friendly. Luna is house broken with a few rare exceptions when she gets too distracted by a scent to remember to do her business. She is an excellent traveler and has slept through several 12 hour road trips. She would thrive in a home that prioritizes consistency, activity, and snuggles.

If you're looking for a loyal companion to keep you active and entertained, look no further. I'm your guy! I'm what you might call a 'fetch enthusiast' and a 'professional napper'. I'm also quite the comedian and will keep you laughing with my silly antics. My friendly nature means I get along with everyone I meet. I may not know if I'm a fan of other dogs just yet, but I'm open to the idea of having a furry sibling to play with. I'm always up for making new friends, both human and canine. Story
Meet Soup, a sweet, affectionate hound with a heart as big as his floppy ears. Mostly Treeing Walker Coonhound with a little Bluetick Coonhound and Poodle, Soup is happiest exploring trails, following his nose, cuddling on the couch, or solving puzzle games. We adopted him five years ago, and he has been a joyful, loving companion ever since. He loves other dogs, enjoys off-leash play with reliable recall, and has been trained with an e-collar to help manage his hound instincts. He also lives peacefully with our cat, Jones—they spend their days chasing each other around the house. Soup is fully house-trained and has never had accidents in the house. He does require a special diet and more hands-on care for his ongoing GI condition than we can provide as we prepare to welcome our first child. We hope to find a loving home that can give this wonderful boy the care and affection he deserves.
