This small, young girl has been through more in her first year of life than any animal ever should. After she and her puppies were seen cruelly dumped in a river, a passerby alerted Animal Control. By the time help arrived, Kandy was clinging to a branch, fighting with everything she had to survive. Her puppies didn't make it…yet somehow, this brave little soul held on.     In the days that followed, Kandy grieved deeply. But with gentle care, time, and the comfort of other dogs, her spirit began to heal. Today, she has blossomed into a tender, trusting sweetheart who still believes people can be kind. She adores other dogs, finds joy in companionship, and is slowly rediscovering what safety and love feel like. Kandy is ready for her forever home — one filled with love, patience, and devotion. She doesn’t ask for much…just a family who will treasure her, protect her, and make sure her past is forever behind her.     If you have room in your heart and home for a dog who will love you with everything she’s got, Kandy is waiting. Apply today and let Kandy be loved the way she has always deserved. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Meet Pearl! A beautiful 2.5 year-old Weimaraner who’s on the lookout for her forever home. Pearl was surrendered with her two pups, but they’ve already found their families, and now it’s her turn to shine. While she can be a bit shy around new faces, once she trusts you, she’ll be your best friend—ready to curl up in your lap for all the love and attention you can give. This sweet girl has a lot of love to offer, and in turn all she asks for is salmon treats and ear scratches. Pearl is also a very athletic dog with a curious nature, so she’s not shy about jumping fences if given the chance. A secure yard would be essential for her. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who’ll adore you once she gets to know you, Pearl might be your perfect match! PEARL IS A FREEDOM FRIENDS ELIGIBLE PET! At the Humane Society, we deeply value and honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans. To show our appreciation, we are offering a special opportunity for verified veterans to adopt an animal at 50% off the adoption fee. This offer applies to all animals who have been in our shelter for 6 months or more, giving these wonderful pets a chance to find the loving homes they deserve, while also providing veterans with a loyal companion.

Story
Coda is a two year old Lab/Vizsla mix that loves people and animals alike. Coda is honestly the sweetest and kindest dog I've ever had the pleasure of having. She wonderful with other animals but she is high maintenance for someone who might be inexperienced with puppies or younger dogs. She loves to go on walks and be outside but she also likes to cuddle and take up the entire bed however, she can have very high bursts of energy and finds herself digging through the trashcans frequently. She's a rescue from Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter and she has been in our care for 1 year. Unfortunately, Coda owner has gone blind and has not been able to give Coda the care she needs for a breed like her. I would love for Coda to find a forever home that will take her on walks, love her, and give her adequate care that she deserves. Anyone who is looking to adopt Coda will have to be accepted by us to make sure that she is going to a home that will not neglect her or mistreat her.

These pups are in Washington, District of Columbia too!
