Story
Our pretty little girl is called Cora and what a loving and sweet little Pointer mix girl she truly is.  She loves playing with other dogs and sleeping in the bed with her foster mom.  This little girl was one of 8 puppies left in an outdoor pen and basically abandoned by the former owner when they loved.  Neighbors stopped by for 3 months to feed and water the puppies and sadly that was all.  They grew and grew and eventually started fighting over the little food they had and the small pen was just so confining. One of the great Critter Cavalry Rescue foster moms heard of their plight and went to get them out of their hot, and confining pen that offered no exercise and not enough food daily…and NO HUMAN LOVE.  Now Cora and her siblings are seeking homes where they can spread their wings and bask in the love and care of their new families.  Cora is remarkably loving and fun and seems to not have been emotionally stunted by their early months of growing up abandoned.  We know that she loves other dogs!  She plays with a 45 pound black lab male that is a year old and “Her and Bo are like two peas in a pod”.  They absolutely love playing together, tug of war, chasing each other in the yard, or just sleeping in the dog bed together.  Cora is good with cats and loves the young children that are in the home, even with all their noise and high energy play.  She is almost there with her potty training and she is good with being in the crate at times needed.  Cora relates to people and loves them.  She always needs to be right by someone and loves to lay on your feet. She has learned not to be possessive of her good or toys as she first started out being.  We totally understood the possessiveness and now she is relaxed and eager to share.  This pretty girl and her siblings have come such a long way.  We are so happy for them to be in out foster care and receiving the love that they so readily deserve.  If you really want to adopt a “rescued dog” then Cora is the total definition of a rescued puppy! If you are interested in making her your own please email us at ccrnewengland@gmail.com!!! PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.October 20, 2024, 9:54 am

Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet girl looking for her forever home! ALLY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Ally       Best Guess for Breed:    Pointer and Beagle mix   Best Guess for Age:    5 years  as of June 2024    Gender:    Female Approximate Weight:    31.2 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Ally with cats or kids, but she can be tested! Currently Living At: DC area foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Ally  is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Ally is Looking For:  Meet Ally, a charming and spirited female Pointer and Beagle mix who is ready to bring joy and adventure into your life! With her sleek black and white coat, Ally is a true beauty, turning heads wherever she goes. Her energetic personality and curious nature make her the perfect companion for an active family who loves the outdoors. Whether it’s exploring new trails, playing fetch in the yard, or simply enjoying a cozy evening by your side, Ally is always eager to be part of the action.   Despite her playful spirit, Ally has a heart full of love and loyalty. She thrives on human companionship and enjoys nothing more than cuddling up with her favorite people after a day of fun. Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Sweet pup ready to play! TILLY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:   Tilly            Best Guess for Breed:     Pointer/lab mix     Best Guess for Age:   11 weeks as of 10/15            SEX:    female   Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):   12lbs as of 10/15   Gets Along With:        Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs, cats and kids so long as they receive patience and proper training.   Currently Living at:     DC area foster home.   Special Adoption Considerations:       Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy.  Tilly is Looking For:   Hiya! I'm Tilly! I faced a few early challenges after being hit by a car, but I'm on the mend now and healing great! I'm looking for a home that will help me rest and recover for a few more weeks and then let me play with toys and get my puppy zoomies out and give me snuggles in between playtimes. When I'm a little older, I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. Oh, and I should probably take a puppy obedience class or two so I can show you how smart I am. What do you say? Do you have room in your heart for me? What My Foster Says About Me: Will update once Tilly has spent time in a foster home! Puppy Vetting Requirements:        Lucky Puppies have had their age appropriate vaccines, but may not yet be “fully” vaccinated. It is the adopter’s responsibility to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, they are at greater risk for illness than an adult dog.      Due to this puppy’s young age, she/he has not yet been spayed or neutered.  As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than January 30, 2025. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. A non-refundable spay/neuter deposit will be collected if you would like Lucky Dog to pay for this animal to be spayed/neutered at one of our low cost partner vets.   Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!  TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.    If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Story
Hi y’all, my name is Dory, I'm a 1 year old, 50 lbs., German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) mix and I’m looking for a loving place to call my forever home. You see, the first few months of my life weren’t easy. My first human was young when she got me and brought me home to live with her, her grandmother, and another dog. I later found out that she never asked her grandmother’s permission to bring me home. Although I felt like an outcast, I stayed close to my first human to feel safe until she stopped coming around--- I guess I stopped being the new and shiny thing in her life. With her gone, tension built up at home. Her grandmother resented me, and her dog really disliked me. In fact, the other dog bullied and hurt me a few times.  For some dogs, losing their home is traumatic. However, I felt a huge sense of relief when I was surrendered because I was no longer walking on eggshells. The wonderful South Carolina animal shelter welcomed me in and showed me that the world isn’t scary. With their care and love, I blossomed! I love the outdoors and I love playing with other playful pups. After some waiting, the shelter transferred me to A Home of Their Own Animal Rescue to increase my chances of finding my forever home. I am now in a foster home with a lovely family, including 2 small humans. They're all great, especially the little humans! They're fun. My foster mom says that I am a sweet and easygoing girl, fully house broken, crate trained, and adorable. I don’t jump up on my foster family either! I like to calmly greet you at the door with a big waggly tail. I love children, belly rubs, long walks and food! I walk so well on a leash- I don’t pull, but sometimes I get excited to see squirrels or deer (who doesn't?!). I love meeting other dogs and cuddling with my humans. Reach out to the nice people at AHOTO so you can meet me!!  ##2143152##

Story
Lucie is a lovely 46 pound, seven year old pointer mix.  She had been living with a family for the last four years, but sadly her adopter became quite ill and could no longer care for her.  This sweet girl is used to living in a home and doesn't know why she is in a kennel.  She is housebroken, friendly with other dogs, and enjoys getting out for walks.  As a senior she is not overly energetic - she still enjoys walks but is easily able to settle down in the house and relax and snuggle with her people.  Lucy really needs a soft place to land - someone who is going to enjoy her companionship for the rest of her life. Sweet Lucie is generally easygoing and will make a wonderful companion in an adult home.  She would do best as an only dog and prefers to be cat free.  She can be possessive of objects, and needs her person to respect that and not try to take things away from her.  This was managed for 4 years in her adopted home with no problem.  We think Lucie would do best with someone with experience with dogs. ##456255##

Story
Kimberly is the cutest, cuddliest, most loving dog you will ever get the honor of adopting! She is house-trained and does good inside the house when no one is around, and also knows sit, down, place, paw, off, heel, come, and has done a variety of different agility courses. She's a fast learner, very smart, and very obedient when not exposed to too many triggers. She has lots of energy for outdoor hikes, but is also happy to just lie on the couch and be a potato with you all day. She loves to cuddle and will greet you whenever you come home with the wiggliest of butts and bring you all her favorite toys! While loyal and loving, Kimberly does not come without her quirks. She is an anxious and reactive dog, with her primary trigger being other dogs, and when over-stimulated, other people as well. She does not like confined spaces, but is showing a lot of progress with her crate-training. Kimberly has been able to meet other dogs when introduced slowly and properly, and is muzzle-trained. She also is okay with children when introduced slowly, and trust is able to be formed. She would thrive in a house-hold where she is the only dog and is not in a busy/urban area, and with someone who has prior experience with dog anxiety or reactivity. Thank you for your interest in Kimberly! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=17089 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Kimberly, or to submit an online application. HART adopts to the local DC/VA/MD metro area only. Visit our website for more information about our adoption process.
