Story

If ever there was a pup in need of a happy ever after, it's Rusty. This boy was the last dog to be pulled from the shelter kill list. Why? It certainly wasn't because he was a bad boy. Instead it was because of his eye. He had a growth in his eye that was bloody and obscuring his vision. People didn't want to risk taking on his vet bills, but we couldn't let this sweet soul be euthanized. We worked with a wonderful rescue partner to pull him out of the shelter and get him veterinary care. We were able to have the growth surgically removed and then waited with bated breath to see if the growth was cancerous. We just got the good news that the growth was completely benign (not cancerous)!!! Hurray for Rusty! Rusty is about 2 years old and weighs 57 pounds. He gets along wonderfully with people; but we think that he will do best as an only dog since he can be selective (especially with other males). He's a high energy dog (who wouldn't be after regaining sight!) and would do great with an active family. He's good on a leash and good in the car. He's already picked up on a few commands such as 'sit' and he understands 'no.' Rusty is more than ready to find his forever home and start a new chapter of life - one filled with love, heath and happiness! Personality: friendly, affectionate, resilient, active, loves water, good in car Good with: people. Will do best as only dog. Has not been cat tested yet. Training: knows some basic commands such as "sit" and "no"; leash trained Estimated date of birth: September 2023 Weight: 57 pounds Medical: vetted, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped Location: Currently located with a foster in Texas, but if adopted, will come to the NJ area on our next transport. Esme is a simple girl that came to our attention at Critter Cavalry Rescue as she struggled to find a place to raise her 7 puppies that she birthed. The odds were stacked but she managed to bring 3 of the 7 puppies through to the place that they could be adopted during the coming weeks. This girl is 2 years old, weighs 35 pounds and has a sleek, beautiful demeanor that speaks to everyone she meets with a kindness and courage. Esme is learning how to enjoy the niceties of being an inside dog as she has raised her puppies. She is housebroken, crate trained and is good with all the other dogs and cats at the foster home. She is around young active children (boys) and she keeps her calm demeanor through all the activities of the children. She loves people so much and just to be with someone. She is food motivated and very bright and can learn so much if you use the treat method to win her attention and desire to learn a trick or commands. She is a great medium energy girl that is ready to chase a toy or ball but has not gotten the memo on how to bring it back to the person who threw it. She is wonderful on a leash and has a slight playful side to her. This pretty girl is really not big at all and on the smaller side of a Lab and she demands little from life or her people. Energy Level: Very high- I am a super-active dog who needs a high-energy owner Before FAR/My History: I was found 5/25/2024 on the side of a road next to an orchard lying beside a laundry basket with a tarp. My humans don’t know if someone dumped me but it looks that way. I had been hit by a car some months earlier and my legs didn’t work right. I was very skinny and hungry. I had femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO surgery) on 6/20/2024 on my back right leg to fix all the problems caused by the accident and the subsequent medical neglect. I am all healed and healthy now! Training Status/Commands I know: Sit and Touch the open hand to get a treat/food instead of leaping for the food Working on: Everything- I have puppy energy, but I am working on channeling it into being a good dog.
