If ever there was a pup in need of a happy ever after, it's Rusty. This boy was the last dog to be pulled from the shelter kill list. Why? It certainly wasn't because he was a bad boy. Instead it was because of his eye. He had a growth in his eye that was bloody and obscuring his vision. People didn't want to risk taking on his vet bills, but we couldn't let this sweet soul be euthanized. We worked with a wonderful rescue partner to pull him out of the shelter and get him veterinary care. We were able to have the growth surgically removed and then waited with bated breath to see if the growth was cancerous. We just got the good news that the growth was completely benign (not cancerous)!!! Hurray for Rusty! Rusty is about 2 years old and weighs 57 pounds. He gets along wonderfully with people; but we think that he will do best as an only dog since he can be selective (especially with other males). He's a high energy dog (who wouldn't be after regaining sight!) and would do great with an active family. He's good on a leash and good in the car. He's already picked up on a few commands such as 'sit' and he understands 'no.' Rusty is more than ready to find his forever home and start a new chapter of life - one filled with love, heath and happiness! Personality: friendly, affectionate, resilient, active, loves water, good in car Good with: people. Will do best as only dog. Has not been cat tested yet. At just seven months old, 28 lbs, she’s discovering the world and all the wonderful things it has to offer. She can be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe, Janet’s affectionate and playful personality truly comes to life. Based on her appearance, Janet looks like a mix of Vizsla and Whippet, which gives her a wonderful combination of elegance, intelligence, and athleticism. She enjoys spending time with her caregivers, soaking up affection, and engaging in playful moments with her furry friends. Thanks to the care she has received through our rescue partner, Janet has been growing and learning in a safe and supportive environment. This has helped her develop into a kind, gentle, and well-behaved young dog who is ready to continue thriving with a loving family. Janet gets along very well with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a friendly canine companion in her new home. A confident dog sibling could help her feel even more secure while providing a great playmate. She is also gentle with children and shows respectful curiosity around cats. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sugar arrived to NJ from Mississippi. Sugar is a sweet, very gentle soul who is beginning to learn how wonderful life can be. Sugar came from a hoarding situation where she did not get much one-on-one attention, so new experiences can be scary for her initially. She's learning so fast and getting a little more comfortable with each passing day. Sugar is somewhat shy and submissive so we are working on building up her confidence. Most of the time, Sugar wants to be wherever her person/people are, however she’s becoming a little more independent each day and will go off to find a comfy bed to nap in. Sugar lived with many other dogs but would do best with a confident, calm dog. She would love a home with a mellow canine companion. Sugar is the sweetest and will blossom in the right home. We are guessing Sugar is a vizsla/black mouth cur mix based solely on her appearance. Sugar tested positive for heartworm in MS so we are treating her now. She is asymptomatic which is a great sign it has been caught early. Sugar will be ready for adoption in April. Sugar is up to date on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $450. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. Franklin was found all alone on the streets, trying to rent the space under someone's house. The homeowners said it wasn't for rent and Franklin, a 2 year old Viszla mix, had to come to the shelter to see if owners would come for him. Unfortunately, no one came. Now he is eager to "own" a home and never have to worry about renting under a home again. Seriously, Franklin is the best boy! He is incredibly sweet, adores people, eagerly seeks their attention, and simply wants to be loved. He's still a little puppy-like, which just makes him even more adorable. Franklin doesn't get along with other dogs so it would be best for him to be the only dog in the home. We're not sure about cats. With some fun stuff to do and some good parents to guide him, he's gonna be amazing!
