Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Coco: A Big Heart in a Little, Wiggly Package Coco is a lovable Jack Russell mix puppy with a whole lot of personality packed into a small, adorable body. He’s a friendly, curious little guy who approaches life with enthusiasm and heart. New toys are his absolute favorite—he proudly carries them around like prized treasures and is always ready for playtime. Coco loves being outdoors, whether he’s following you around the yard, exploring his surroundings, or simply soaking up the sunshine. He’s very playful and enjoys playing with his foster brother, entertaining himself with toys, or engaging with his people. Despite his playful energy, he’s incredibly gentle and has a super sweet side—he truly loves to cuddle. When Coco first arrived, he was a bit shy, but he warms up quickly and forms bonds fast. He’s smart and eager to learn, doing wonderfully with both leash and potty training. In fact, the only accidents he had were on his very first day after transport—he hasn’t had any since. He does great in a kennel and sleeps through the night without any issues. Coco is respectful and easygoing with other animals. He has no issues with the barn cat—he’ll sniff and show interest, clearly hoping to make a feline friend. Horses are still a mystery to him, and while he’s a little unsure, he shows no aggression at all—just cautious curiosity, likely because he’s never seen one before. With his affectionate nature, gentle demeanor, and joyful puppy spirit, Coco would be a wonderful addition to a family ready to give him the love, attention, and fun he deserves. Smart, sweet, playful, and cuddly, Coco is ready to start his next adventure—could it be with you? Coco is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Dumpling is a big-hearted, high-energy girl who absolutely adores her people. Once she warms up (which only takes a few minutes), she bonds deeply and wants nothing more than to be near her humans. She’s affectionate, playful, and very much a “perpetual puppy” who approaches life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She has basic training, walks on a leash (with room to polish her manners), is crate trained, and does well riding in the car. Dumpling has been working so hard on her potty training, and she's alllmost there.  With a consistent potty break schedule, she'll be completely potty trained in no time at all. Dumpling really loves lap time, despite her energy level, and thrives on interaction with her people. She’s eager to please and happiest when she’s included in your daily life. Dumpling does have a high-energy play style and can be mouthy when she’s excited. Her play includes growly noises that can sound intimidating if you’re not familiar with playful dog communication, but it’s all part of her puppy-like enthusiasm. Because of this, she’s best suited for a home with older children and larger dogs, and not recommended for small kids or small dogs. She can also get overstimulated during play, so an adopter who understands decompression, redirection, and healthy outlets for energy will help her shine. Dumpling resource guards food, so feeding should be managed carefully and ideally in a separate space. She’s also clever and determined — if you’re slow to open the back door, she’ll try to help you out. If she could reach a lever handle, she probably would let herself out, so secure doors and awareness are important. Dumpling came from BARC and has shown that, with structure and understanding, she does very well. She may be reactive to new people around her kennel when stressed, but otherwise she is excellent in her crate. She can be vocal when she wants to go outside, making sure her needs are clearly communicated. Dumpling would do best in a house rather than an apartment and with someone who appreciates an energetic, affectionate dog who is still learning how to regulate big feelings. With patience, structure, and love, Dumpling will be an incredibly loyal and fun companion who gives her whole heart to her people. Dumpling is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *Bonded to Toto* *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.*   Bonded pair - Toto (black/grey) and Barry (brown) are a senior Odd Couple. Barry is busy, always in the know and including himself in any task or activity.  He LOVES to check in with each pup (foster dog bothers included) and humans in the house, to make sure everyone is AOK.  He leaps from lap to lap to ensure he gets enough "good boy" sessions throughout the day. Toto is chill and hangs back and watches the activities, as his tail is wagging.  Toto does have some vision impairment (cataracts) and Barry buzzes around and helps direct him, when needed.  Once Toto surveys the lay of the land (your home) he gets around just fine.    Both boys LOVE to go outside.  Barry buzzes around, while Toto takes time to sniff all the sniffs.   Both are happy little guys, Toto's tail almost never stops wagging and Barry is constantly giving everyone smooches.    WALKS? Barry is READY TO GO (he may pull at the leash a bit)!  Toto would rather meander around the yard or ride in a wagon or stroller, or maybe even be carried in a sling.   CAR RIDES? Both do well, dont hear a peep out of them.   CRATES? Barry loves to nap in there, while the door is open.  Toto is indifferent. The boys are crated when their foster humans are not home.   These sweet guys are looking for their forever retirement home, if you think your home and family would be a good fit, please submit an application today!   Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Bear is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application.
