Story
Hi there, I'm Riley and I am Rosie's brother. I am a one year old wire haired terrier around 40 lbs. I am a sweet boy who is good with the peoples of all sizes and with other dogs when I get the chance for a proper introduction. I don't have any experience with those cat things, but being a Terrier mix, I might not be the best fit. I can be a little shy at first but I warm up quickly and then you and I will be fast friends. My sister and I were pulled from the streets and so she is a little needy of her "big" brother so if you would love double the fun we would really like to stay together. *All of The Right to Live dogs are fostered locally in San Antonio Texas and will be transported to other states to their new families upon adoption. We believe fostering dogs and not having them decompress in a kennelled environment is more beneficial for the dogs and builds their trust and companionship in a family situation. Adoption fee includes transportation costs, previous/current medical treatment (spay/neuter, etc.) and a health certificate for cross-state travel*

He is built to bring joy and laughter to your life, and he'll always be up for a game of fetch or a walk in the park. Ask us about your next best Buddy today — you won't regret it! Buddy is a little over a year old and around 37 pounds. Interested in becoming this pup’s forever home? For immediate consideration, please fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we DO NOT go any further without an application. If there are multiple dogs that you are interested in, please fill out an application for each dog. This does not include bonded pairs — for them, one application will be fine. Because we have different adoption coordinators working with different dogs, your application may be missed if you only apply once. Find more adoptable pets, news, and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws. We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions finding our fur babies the most loving homes. Please do not apply if you are not serious about adopting. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Buddy the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. Our adoption fee is $525. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age-appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention, and travel expenses. All our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for their transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed.

Story
Pumpkin, named so by the kids in his neighborhood because of his perfect warm orange coloring, almost looks like cartoon dog. His size, his ears, the smile…he is cartoonishly cute because it almost feels impossible that something could naturally be so angelic and sweet. Pumpkin is a 1-year-old, 26-pound mystery mix—maybe a little Jack Russell, maybe a dash of Shiba Inu, truly an absolute dream combo even if we can’t identify it. Now despite his absolute star level good looks, he doesn’t love the spotlight… unless another dog is standing there with him. He is a sweet pup on his own but give him a calm, confident pup-pal, and Pumpkin comes alive. Right now, Pumpkin is still learning how to be brave around people, he isn’t scared, he just isn’t the type to make the first move with new people. He is dog-friendly to the core and instantly more relaxed, curious, and affectionate when dogs are around. In fact, when meeting new people, his approach changes if he’s surrounded by dog energy—a dog by his side gives him a sense of security and I can’t blame him- I feel the same way. A medium-energy, playful, dog-friendly companion will make all the difference for Pumpkin. A home with a yard where he can explore and play chase with his doggy friend would be the best fit. Ideally in a quiet suburb or even a rural area- he isn’t much of the big city type. He is even open to a dog-savvy, calm cat companion! When he met out house cat he was cautious and perfectly polite. Pumpkin is fostered in a loving home with seven small dogs, and he fits in beautifully. He is calm, respectful, and gets along with everyone—no drama, no tension. His foster foster describes him as excited and welcoming, with a calm presence that brings peace to the home. He also has shared that Pumpkin doesn’t need constant attention but enjoys checking in for affection, belly rubs, and gentle praise. He is house and crate-trained, rides well in the car, and is used to a predictable routine. Pumpkin doesn’t live in a home with kids but is really popular with the kids in the neighborhood, they named him after all. He is great with kids and has always been gentle, respectful, and calm. He loves playing with a ball and has a gentle mouth sharing toys and receiving treats. Pumpkin enjoys regular walks and is great in the car. Leash-wise, Pumpkin is still mastering his leash skills when he is alone but with a harness on and a friend by his side, he is great. He’s been walked on a harness with his foster and does well but is not as confident with traditional leash pressure. He will get there, he may need gentle confidence-building walks and a light-hearted family who doesn’t mind seeing him through while he settles in. He will thrive in a low-pressure, canine-loving environment. Pumpkin stole all of our hearts when we met him and we have no doubt, he is going to be the kind of dog that arrives and immediately feels like he is right where he is meant to be. Make the first move to welcome this gentleman home, apply today to make sure he doesn’t get away. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
