Hi, I’m Blossom! I’m a sweet, smart Wire Terrier who loves attention and being around my people. I get along well with dogs and kids, know how to sit, shake, and lay down, and I walk nicely beside you on a leash. I’m treat motivated, love chew toys and bones, and I’m always ready for some extra pets and affection. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion with a big heart, I just might be your girl.

Story
Meet Kodak – The Biggest Adventure You'll Ever LOVE! Kodak is an adorably handsome Australian Cattle Dog and Wire-Haired Terrier mix with scruffy fur, an irresistible face, and ears that are impossible to forget. Smart, athletic, and full of personality, Kodak is looking for an active family that understands young working dogs and is excited to continue helping him become the incredible companion he's already proving he can be. Kodak combines some of the very best traits of both breeds. He has the intelligence, athleticism, and determination of an Australian Cattle Dog paired with the curiosity, confidence, and playful spirit of a terrier. He loves exploring the world, learning new things, playing with his toys, and being involved in whatever his people are doing. One of the most rewarding things about fostering Kodak has been watching him grow. Every week he becomes a little more confident, a little more settled, and a little more affectionate. While he still has all the enthusiasm you'd expect from a young puppy, he's learning how to channel that energy and is becoming a wonderful companion. Because Kodak is both intelligent and energetic, he thrives with physical exercise, mental stimulation, and opportunities to learn. Training sessions, hiking trails, puzzle toys, interactive games, and adventures with his family are all things he truly enjoys. He loves having a job to do and is happiest when he's included in daily life. Because of his natural herding instincts and youthful enthusiasm, Kodak would do best in a home with children 15 years of age or older. Like many herding breeds, he can become excited and may try to herd moving people, but he continues to make great progress with his manners and impulse control. He responds well to consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, making him a fun and rewarding dog to train. Kodak has also made tremendous strides socially. He now enjoys interacting with other dogs in a much more relaxed and appropriate way and has become a playful, positive canine companion. He would do well with another confident, playful dog who enjoys an active lifestyle and can continue helping him build his social skills. His foster mom has also watched his softer side blossom. Kodak has become incredibly affectionate and now regularly seeks out pets, snuggles, and quiet time with his people after he's finished playing. He loves leaning against you for attention and has discovered just how wonderful it is to cuddle. Kodak is also discovering that new experiences aren't so scary. When meeting new people, he greets them with friendly tail wags and gentle curiosity. He may stay close to his foster mom for the first few minutes while he takes everything in, but it doesn't take long before he's happily accepting treats, asking for attention, and making new friends. His sweet, observant nature makes him a thoughtful puppy who simply likes to know he's safe before diving into new friendships. One moment that made his foster mom especially proud was his very first bath. She wasn't sure what to expect from such an energetic puppy, but Kodak surprised everyone by sitting perfectly still like the very best boy. He handled the entire experience with patience and trust, showing just how willing he is to learn and how much he wants to please. Beneath Kodak's playful puppy energy is an incredibly sweet, loyal dog who simply wants to be part of a family. He's already come so far in foster care, and it's exciting to imagine just how amazing he'll become as he continues to mature. The goofy puppy who once bounced through every situation is growing into a confident, affectionate companion who loves to play, loves to learn, and loves even harder. Kodak isn't looking for someone who expects perfection. He's looking for someone who sees the incredible potential in a smart young dog and wants to enjoy the journey together. The family willing to invest their time, patience, and love into Kodak will be rewarded with years of adventure, laughter, unwavering loyalty, and unconditional love. If you're looking for an active best friend who is equal parts adventure buddy and cuddle companion, Kodak just might be your perfect match. Kodak at a Glance Australian Cattle Dog/Wire-Haired Terrier Mix Neutered Male Born October 29, 2025 Approximately 18 pounds Crate trained and sleeps through the night in his crate Does great during bath time Dog-friendly and enjoys positive interactions with appropriately matched canine companions Friendly with new people, though a little shy at first Loves snuggles, affection, and being close to his people Best suited for children 15 years and older Smart, affectionate, active, and eager to learn To learn more about Kodak or to apply to adopt, please complete an application at www.legacyhumanesociety.org. Once your application is received, Kodak's foster mom will be in touch to answer your questions and tell you more about this wonderful young boy.  We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at http://legacyhumanesociety.org/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application. Story
Meet Pip! Pip is an 8-year-old dog looking for a loving forever home. I adopted him from PetSmart six years ago when he was scared and didn’t trust anyone. With patience and love, he learned to trust and has become a loyal, devoted companion. Pip bonds strongly with women and is very protective of his person. He can be around men if they let him warm up at his own pace, especially when they’re seated. He would do best as the only pet in a quiet home with a patient single woman and no children. This is an incredibly difficult decision, but my daughter-in-law and grandchildren will soon be moving in with us, and one of them is allergic to both dogs and cats. Before surrendering Pip, I want to find him the loving, patient home he deserves. If you think you could be Pip’s forever person, please reach out.

Story
Meet Nutmeg! An eleven-year-old Jack Russell Terrier/American Pitbull Terrier mix currently in Chicago, IL, whose essence is a bright spark of devotion wrapped in a charming white coat with fawn patches and spots. At around 30 pounds, this senior girl brings together the curiosity of a terrier, the loyalty of a devoted companion, and a heart that truly shines when she is close to her favorite people. Nutmeg is the kind of dog who would happily spend part of her day curled up beside you for cuddles and the other part exploring the world on a long walk, hike, or sunny outdoor adventure! Nutmeg is wonderfully intelligent and highly treat-motivated, making training one of her favorite activities. She already knows an impressive list of commands, including sit, stay, place, bed, leave it, down, spin, wait, and house! She enjoys learning, responds beautifully to positive reinforcement, and takes pride in showing off her skills. She is also crate-trained, house-trained, microchipped, spayed, and up to date on her vaccinations. One of Nutmeg’s most delightful quirks is her love of balls, puzzles, and showing off her impressive jumping ability. She also enjoys car rides, sunbathing, and keeping a close eye on whatever her people are doing. Her affectionate nature makes her a constant companion who thrives on connection and routine. Nutmeg is looking for a quiet, experienced, adult-only home where she can continue building confidence and enjoying a predictable lifestyle. She needs to be the only pet in the home and cannot live with children or have regular child visitors. Past traumatic experiences, including a period of neglect and attacks by other dogs, contributed to resource guarding and defensive reactivity around other dogs and children. While she has made tremendous progress through extensive training and behavior support, she still requires thoughtful management and an adopter who understands canine body language and positive reinforcement techniques. Nutmeg has never bitten another dog, but she has displayed defensive reactions around children and recently had two unusual human-related incidents, including a leash lunge toward a child and a nip to an adult family member's hand during a stressful moment. She immediately disengaged afterward, and these incidents occurred during a period of significant household change that increased her anxiety. Nutmeg currently receives daily medication to help manage anxiety and thrives with structure, routine, and clear expectations. In the right caring environment, Nutmeg offers loyalty, laughter, companionship, and countless cozy moments on the couch. She needs a patient family who will appreciate her intelligence, honor her boundaries, and celebrate all the wonderful qualities that make her unique. Could Nutmeg be the loyal adventure buddy and cuddle partner you have been searching for? To learn more about adopting Nutmeg, please contact adopt@joyfulpets.com!
