Story
Monroe is barely a year old. This part of her life should be filled with living room zoomies, scattered toys, and someone laughing as she proudly brings the ball back for the tenth time. Instead, she’s spending it in a kennel - and that’s not where a puppy belongs.Monroe is a tiny 12 pounds, but don’t let that fool you. She’s fast, smart, curious, and full of that bright, joyful energy that needs somewhere to go. She wants to explore, play, learn - do things - and right now, she’s doing all the things in a space that can’t keep up with her.She LOVES fetch, and she actually brings the ball back, every time, like a tiny overachiever. She’s obsessed with “hunting” squeaky toys - wiggle one and she goes full dramatic mode: play-growl, pounce, roll, victory. Stop, and she gently nudges it back into your hand like, excuse me, we’re not finished here.Monroe's not a lap dog - she’s a “get on the floor with me, throw the toy again, let’s figure this out together” kind of dog. She needs engagement, exercise, puzzle toys, walks - someone who sees that busy little brain and says, yes, let’s give you a life worthy of it.And she will give it right back.Because Monroe loves people. When we took her to the vet, the staff scooped her up and passed her around like she was the best thing that walked in all week - and she soaked up every second. We barely got her back. She’s also doing great with other small dogs. In Panda’s Place, she runs happy circles around her new friends while they patiently teach her how to play. She’s learning, adapting, figuring it all out - because every day is still new to her. That’s what makes this moment so important. This is when puppies learn what the world is.And the world should not be a kennel.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA, with daily visiting hours from 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.Interested?
