Story
**WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS IN BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** PLEASE READ HIS FULL BIO BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT Meet the charming Harrison, a happy 6 year-old, 7-pound bundle of love with a spirit that knows no bounds! Harrison's story is one of resilience and hope. Rescued by the compassionate folks at Get A Life, he's a special little dude looking for a kind and understanding human who can cater to his unique needs. Despite facing challenges, he remains a charmer with an irresistible personality. Harrison may identify as able-bodied, but his little back legs don't function as they should. However, he doesn't let that slow him down! With the help of his custom wheels, he enjoys his own transport and savors the joy of speeding around, feeling the humid breeze ruffling his silky hair. He is truly a master at living life to the fullest and has an endless supply of love and affection to offer his future human. This happy boy's journey hasn't been easy. After narrowly escaping a dire fate at a kill facility, he found safety and love in the arms of his rescuers. Harrison's lower lumbar paralysis necessitates manual bladder expression multiple times a day, but he handles it with grace and unwavering spirit. His bowel movement releases on its own, or with some assistance. When you understand his schedule he will have few accidents. He may have special needs, but he doesn't let them define him; he happily plays fetch and finds joy in every moment. Harrison's previous people did provide him with spinal surgery, but they neglected to offer the necessary rehabilitation. Thankfully, since then, he's received a range of therapies, including acupuncture, laser therapy, physical therapy, and aqua therapy. The dedicated specialists have trained his caregivers on continuing his therapy at home. Harrison shows signs of feeling in his paws and responds positively to the treatments, occasionally displaying strength to push up, even if he cannot stand. There's hope that with continued home therapy, he may even regain the ability to walk. While he is not currently seeing a specialist, he remains in loving hands that understand and cater to his unique needs. This absolutely adorable little guy may have wheels to zoom around the house and a heartwarming ability to win the hearts of everyone he meets. We're seeking a forever home for Harrison, where his monthly grooming, heartworm prevention, and daily health care and maintenance can be attended to. His adoption fee of $200 contributes towards his vetting, therapy, and rehabilitation. If you feel you can offer Harrison the love, care, and understanding he deserves, he'll repay you with endless kisses and a fantastic personality that will brighten your days. Embrace this remarkable spirit, and together, let's embark on a journey of love, joy, and the fulfillment of Harrison's potential. Check his VIDEO PLAYLIST . WWW.GETALIFEPETRESCUE.COM  MORE INFO ON HARRISON: Harrison has a wonderful personality and is energetic despite his paralysis. Harrison is a joy but may seem like a lot of work, until you get used to his routine, he is not a burden. You need time, love, and patience. He needs his bladder expressed every 4-6 hours in the day but NOT AT NIGHT. YouTube videos on how to release his bladder Here is one technique https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8kuOD2Iup4 We put him on the lawn or over a pee pad and bend over him standing. You need to keep your feet away from his stream if urine. Inevitably you will get wet from time to time.  Once you have your fingertips on each side of the bladder it will feel like a water balloon. Then press your fingers together until the urine is released. Then go back and reposition your fingers 3-4 times to find smaller balloons until the bladder is completely empty. He poops on his own, you will find poop in his bed or when he is excited he will release it. He is on supplements to help promote stimulation.  Harrison can't be crated or penned up because he will stress and he needs to scoot around without bruising his belly and legs. He loves his orthopedic bed with his toys on it. When you are home and he is active, he can be in his wheels but once he settles he needs to be in his drag bag that enables him to scoot around to follow you and then relax while you are doing household tasks. The dragbag protects his legs from getting scratched but it is not padded to protect him from bruising. He needs a calm groomer that will never leave him on the table because he will try to jump off.. He is fun and loves to meet people. If you have the time and finances to care for him long-term please give let me know.  We do home visits near Broward & Palm Beach Counties. In order to do an adoption and he will need several visits for you to get used to his needs. Harrison needs a couple of days of training and we would like to have his potential adopter care for him for a day to see if they are really dedicated to him. *All dogs in the care of Get a Life Pet Rescue live in loving foster homes while waiting for their perfect match. **ALL ADOPTIONS INCLUDE A HOME VISIT. YOU MUST LIVE IN BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** Meet Pico: A Gentle Soul Learning to Trust Sweet Pico is a shy little Yorkie Poodle mix with a tender heart and a quiet longing to feel safe. Life has taught him to be cautious, and when he’s unsure, his instinct is to tuck himself away. But give him a soft voice, a baby talk, and patience… and you’ll see something truly special. Pico will slowly come out on his own, head lowered, tail wagging gently, his way of bravely trying again. At just one year old and 7 pounds, Pico is still forming his view of the world. He doesn’t need pressure or expectations, just reassurance, consistency, and kindness. A home with dog experience would be his best match, with someone willing to move at his pace and help him build confidence one loving moment at a time. In the right environment, Pico will blossom into a devoted companion who trusts deeply because he was given the chance to feel secure. Then more of Pico's jovial charm will take over!  Pico is hypoallergenic and will need regular monthly grooming to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. More than anything, he needs a family who understands that healing happens gently, and that trust, once earned, is a beautiful gift. If your heart has room for patience, compassion, and quiet victories, Pico may be the little soul meant to grow beside you. This dog's adoption fee is $650 to go towards their vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed). Khloe - for adoption in mid-February. If interested please complete the online adoption application on our website at http://www.floridayorkierescue.com For additional information, please read below: Khloe, a female weighs 6 lbs. but is a bit chunky right now. We were called about this precious little girl who was found abandoned and dropped of at a Humane Society in November. She has a HEART MURMUR but is currently not on any medication. She was spayed a month ago. In one week she will have a dental cleaning. Her age is unknown. She has had all of her vaccinations at the facility before we received her. She is microchipped and heartworm negative. She was truly a mess when she arrived. She had sores on her body and was too thin as well as arriving with Kennel Cough. She was quite ill but with plenty of TLC she is doing great now. It took us several months to get her to look like the little diva she is now. She is very dog friendly and playful. She is pee wee pad potty trained, we think. lol Will still need work. She sleeps with us every night. It will be hard to say good bye to this precious girl. -Fully vaccinated -Heartwork negative -Spayed -Dental cleaning next week -Microchipped -Adoption fee - currently not set Florida Yorkie Rescue www.floridayorkierescue.com floridayorkierescue@yahoo.com located in Palm City, Martin County WE DO NOT HAVE A PUBLIC FACILITY

Story
Jenny - for adoption in mid-February after her spay. She is Heartworm positive.... If interested please complete the online adoption application on our website at http://www.floridayorkierescue.com We are located in Palm City, Martin County. We DO NOT have a public facility. For additional information, please read below: Jenny was left abandoned at a Construction site. Thankfully someone found her in time. She was pitifully thin and certainly did not look like these photos I just posted. She is now a fatty patty at 8 lbs. and really needs to lose a pound. She grabs everyone else's food and scarfs it down like a vacuum cleaner but when you tell her to be gentle, she acts like a little lady. Jenny has had all of her vaccinations and has had a dental cleaning. She is definitely not a senior, probably a young dog but we just will never know for sure. Her teeth look great. Unfortunately as we ran our routine blood work it was discovered she was Heartworm positive. She has been on a few common medications which she is being weaned off of now but the next step is an aggressive cocktail of meds I do not want her to have. It is just too dangerous for such a little dog plus she would have to be kenneled or confined for months during the process. She does not do well in a kennel as she also has separation anxiety. I have had other small dogs over the years that have been heartworm positive and I gave them heartworm pills every single month; eventually they were heartworm negative. It takes a while but it works and it is far safer than the alternative. This is just my opinion. Veterinarians would probably not agree. I do not want to keep her for a year and then find her a home. It is not fair to Jenny. She is friendly with other dogs but needs a new home where the owner is home most days. She will literally follow you everywhere. She loves to sleep in our bed and when she arrived she was TOTALLY HOUSEBROKEN. Due to the many pee wee pads we have here for our seniors she is now peeing on them as well but I know if you let her out often she will get back into the routine of being housebroken. So... recap.... she is heartworm positive. She has separation anxiety. She will bark if she is not by your side always. She is totally vaccinated. She has had a dental cleaning. She is microchipped. She is being spayed in mid February. Story
Our very special Pet of the Week is Angie! She is a senior dog, estimated to be between 14 and 16 years old. When we were called, we were told she was a six-year-old Yorkie. What we found instead was a very old, very frail dog who had clearly been neglected for many years. Angie arrived emaciated, heartworm positive, and incredibly weak.Despite everything she has endured, Angie is unbelievably sweet. She is gentle, quiet, and just wants to be near people.Unfortunately, she is too fragile to undergo heartworm treatment. At this stage, our focus is no longer on recovery, but on comfort, love and dignity. We are urgently searching for a hospice foster or hospice adopter - someone with a calm home and a big heart who can give Angie a soft place to rest, affection and peace for the remainder of her life. This is not about medical care or fixing what has been done, but about kindness and companionship at the end of her journey.Angies story is a sad one, but we are hoping it can end with love.We believe there is someone who may feel called to open their home and heart to her, even if only for a short time.If you are interested in being Angies hospice foster, or would like more information, please contact The Farm Dog Rescue.
