Story
What’s not to love about this little guy? Meet Duke, a 7lb, 13-year-old Yorkie. He found himself at a shelter when his owner had to go into assisted living. The shelter knew that was no place for this tiny dog. Duke came to us looking pretty rough. He weighed only 5 ½ pounds, his hair was sparse and oily, and his eyes and nose were nearly crusted shut. Our vet diagnosed him with a condition called neurogenic dry eye, causing not only his eyes to dry out but his nose too. He takes a medication in his food twice a day plus eye drops for this issue. Duke has gained about 1 ½ pounds and we’re hoping to put another pound on him. Duke can be wary of strangers and needs to take it slow, possibly due to his limited eyesight. Will you open your heart and home for this special little guy? FLFO requires a home visit therefore adopters must be within 40 miles of Baldwin MD.

Story
BUDDY is a 6 to 7-year-old terrier, who was found as a stray but never claimed by his owners. He spent a couple of years with his finder but due to his resource guarding – mainly with food, and his favorite people – he was turned over to us. Buddy was prescribed a lot of different medications for anxiety which we are weaning him off of to work on the root of the problem. We agree with the vet's assessment that Buddy needs his RDA of exercise, mental stimulation and training/boundaries.  We are looking for an active home, ideally one where he could go to work with his people and get lots and lots of walking. Although he looks like a Yorkie he has more of the personality of a Jack Russell terrier.  Buddy is active and athletic, approximately 20 pounds. Buddy has been neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for Heartworms and is microchipped. Adoption $200. If you are the family Buddy is looking for, please fill out an application at www.companimals.org prior to making an appointment to see him.April 23, 2024, 10:14 am

Story
Lizzie was adopted from a hoarder situation. She is up to date with all shots and is now healthy. Unfortunately they had to pull all of her teeth. But that doesn’t stop her from eating. She eats everything. She loves pork chop bones. She is fine with other dogs and children as long as they don’t stay too long. She needs to be in a home where she is the only dog and no children so she can get 100% of the cuddles. If you are home most of the time would be even better. She is a sweet pup but she has issues being brought up in a home with 82 other dogs. She is house broken some but needs more training. She will go outside but you need to watch for the signals. She will use a pee pad most times. I hate having to give her up. I’ve had her for 9 months and she still hasn’t accepted my other pup. Lizzie is 8 years old and runs around the back yard like she is 1. She loves riding in a car. She loves sleeping next to you. She needs to be loved.

Story
Pepper has vision. He would prefer to be the only dog. Loves people and cuddling, velcro and will follow you everywhere. Meet Pepper! Pepper was surrendered to a shelter at 13 years old. His history prior to that is unknown. He was saved from the shelter by a local organization who also started his vetting, and he came to us about two weeks later. In spite of all this, Pepper is quite a character! He has a lot of personality, definitely knows what he wants and doesn't want, and will let you know. And what he wants is this ... Pepper feels he has one very important job, and more than anything, he wants to do his job well. That job is to be. with. you. No matter where you are, day or night, Pepper wants to be with you, and he will love you with everything he has in his little 8 pound body. If he is not with you, he will not hesitate to let you know how upset he is. He's a great cuddler and would spend the entire day cuddling in my lap if he could. He would love to keep you warm on those cool fall and winter days! Shortly after arriving at his foster home, Pepper had an urgent dental (20 teeth were extracted, he has six bottom teeth remaining and will need to eat soft food for the rest of his life), was neutered, saw the ophthalmologist (he has nuclear sclerosis in both eyes and a healed corneal ulcer in his right eye), and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), for which he takes Levothyroxine twice a day. He will need to have regular blood work to monitor his thyroid. Two lumps removed from his forehead were apocrine gland cysts and completely benign. He is nicely managed on pain medication and a joint supplement for arthritis and bilateral luxating patellas, and even runs everywhere! He's also attempted, with some success, to climb over baby gates. Pepper goes through phases where he drinks and urinates quite a bit more than usual, but testing so far has not shown a cause. Housebreaking continues to be a slow work in progress and he is unable to go through the night without urinating. Pepper is fine with the other three dogs in his foster home, but is jealous and upset if he is not getting all of the attention. The other three dogs here are timid and small like he is, and if one is where Pepper wants to be, he will just lay down on top of that dog. Pepper would prefer a home where someone is home most of the time and where he could be your only dog, or with only one other quiet small dog. Due to his size, a home without young children is recommended, and he will also require an understanding owner who is able to carefully monitor any changes in his appetite, behavior, or pottying. Pepper reminds me of a used car. He's a bit banged up, scratched, and is missing paint in some areas, but with lots of love and good maintenance, he'll keep going and going and going! :) BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
