Story
ABOUT BEAR Bear is a 6-year-old Yorkie boy hoping for a fresh start. He came to HAP when his owners were no longer able to care for him, and sadly, he arrived in rough shape. Bear was suffering from severe dermatitis, eye and ear infections, and significant obesity. While he is now on a weight-management plan and his skin is slowly but surely clearing up, his eyes were damaged beyond repair, and he required the enucleation of both eyes. Now, Bear is a sweet, resilient boy who’s navigating the world with fresh eyes, just not in the way he once did. Bear is learning to explore life through his other senses. Each day brings progress, as he’s steadily figuring out his surroundings, bumping into fewer things as his confidence grows. Since everything in the world is still so new, Bear will thrive in a patient, understanding home that’s committed to keeping his environment safe and predictable. While he was in constant pain before surgery, his discomfort sometimes caused him to act out. Now that he’s healing, the only grumpy moment he’s shown is when he had to wear the dreaded cone. Thankfully, Bear has healed beautifully and now he is thriving without a cone. Despite all he’s been through, Bear’s gentle spirit shines. He loves treats, and will happily sniff them out from across the room, and he’s been enjoying enrichment activities like snuffle mats that let him use his sharp nose. He also adores being talked to; he’ll tilt his head sweetly as he listens, taking in every word. While belly rubs aren’t really his style, he’ll gladly relax beside you and soak in some soft, reassuring pets. Bear is brave, loving, and doing his best to adjust. With patience, kindness, and a calm environment, he’ll continue to blossom into the wonderful companion he’s meant to be. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Meet Daisy — A Tiny Yorkie with a Big Heart and Endless Love to Give Please read the bio in full for answers to common questions. If you have a question not covered here, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application at www.seniordoghaven.org. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to arrange meet-and-greets without an approved application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Landenberg, PA to allow for an in-person home visit. At just 10 years young and a petite 5 pounds, Daisy is the definition of a loyal little companion. This sweet Yorkie came to us as a stray from a shelter, and while her past is unknown, it’s clear she is ready to devote herself completely to her person. Daisy is fully housebroken, walks nicely on a leash, rarely barks, and has a gentle, easygoing personality. She is wonderful with dogs and kids of all ages and would do well in many types of homes, as long as someone is around often. Daisy is a true “velcro dog” who thrives on closeness and loves nothing more than lap time, being carried in a cozy side bag, or snuggling under the covers with her favorite human. She has limited vision in one eye and takes daily medication for dry eye, but she navigates life beautifully and doesn’t let anything slow her down. Since coming into rescue, Daisy has received excellent veterinary care, including a dental with eight teeth removed, a spay, and removal of a benign mammary mass. She also has a previously fractured jaw that has healed well and allows her to eat comfortably. She enjoys soft, ground meals. Daisy is a certified cuddle bug and couch potato who would be happiest in a home where she can be close to her person most of the day. She does not require a fenced yard, is fine with stairs, and enjoys sleeping snuggled up with her human at night. If you’re looking for a tiny companion with a huge heart, Daisy may be your perfect match.

Story
Lizzie was adopted from a hoarder situation. She is up to date with all shots and is now healthy. Unfortunately they pulled all of her teeth. But that doesn’t stop her from eating. She eats everything. She loves pork chop bones. She is fine with large dogs and children as long as they don’t stay too long. She needs to be in a home where she is the only dog and no children so she can get 100% of the cuddles. If you are home most of the time would be even better. She has very high anxiety. She is on two medication. She is a sweet pup but she has issues being brought up in a home with 82 other dogs. She will go outside to go to the bathroom but you need to watch for the signals. She will use a pee pad most times. Ive had her for 3 years and she still hasn’t accepted my other pup. She still snips at my husband and grandchildren. Lizzie is 11 years old and runs around the back yard like she is 1. She loves riding in a car. She loves sleeping next to you. She needs to be loved.

Story
✨Meet Charlie Brown!✨ Charlie Brown is a 7.5-yr old Yorkshire Terrier mix who came into us as a surrender from a commercial breeding facility (aka Puppy Mill) in Lancaster County. Charlie Brown had a very difficult life before coming to us, being used as a breeder dog his entire life. He is shut down at this time but is slowly starting to give us his trust. We are confident he will make a wonderful family member for a very lucky family, who understands his past and gives him the time he needs to trust them and his new surroundings. Charlie Brown loves other animals, and will thrive in a home with at least one other dog. Adopting a puppy mill survivor is life-changing—for you and them. For these dogs, everything is new and often overwhelming: people, houses, stairs, leashes, food bowls, collars, toys, TVs, ovens, doorways, pavement…the list goes on. They need adopters who can move slowly, be patient, keep expectations reasonable, and provide the understanding and tools they need to grow into happy, confident companions. Patience, positive reinforcement, and understanding are key! We promise there is nothing that compares to gaining the love and trust of a mill mama, but it requires intentional effort and commitment from their new family. With the right guidance, puppy mill survivors can blossom into well-socialized, joyful dog- so our goal is always to ensure every adopter is fully prepared to give them the life and environment they need to truly thrive! If you are interested in being considered for them please apply on our website at www.angelsretreat.org 💕🐾
