Story
Teddy turned 2 in October, but don't be fooled, he is still very much in his 'Puppy' Era! He’s a Shorkie (Yorkie–Shih Tzu mix) weighing a healthy 14.4 pounds of enthusiasm, curiosity, and undiluted mischief! He’s playful with toys, playful with dogs... playful with air...and deeply committed to yard adventures. Basically, Teddy IS the party and the one all the other dogs want to play with. He's a VERY sweet bundle of fur that will keep you on your toes! When he powers down (we promise he does), Teddy is shockingly snuggly....it almost makes you forget he decided to play 'keep away' when you were already running 10 minutes late. His former owner sadly passed away and likely wasn’t able to give Teddy the structure or outlets he needed, so he’s getting a crash course in foster care. Teddy absolutely requires a fenced yard, because while he isn't an escape artist, he's not shy about taking advantage of opportunity. A solo adventure? He'd never look back...except to laugh at you as you try to catch him. Teddy is working on becoming housebroken. He's improving, but this will takes lots of consistency, a boatload of patience, a few curse words and plenty of prayer. In fact, that is just the general personality of Teddy's ideal adopter. He walks ok on a leash (some pulling), but this is improving with exposure and exhaustion (the first block is the worst). He rides surprisingly well in the car. Despite his goofy antics, Teddy is not destructive. For the most part. He doesn't have much interest in chewing or destroying anything (except maybe desqueeking a few toys). When it's time for bed, he sleeps soundly in the 'big human bed' til morning. No issues at all. You'll need those 8 hours to gear up for another day of Teddy antics! Teddy will thrive with a loving family who genuinely enjoys actively engaging their pups. Due to his playful nature, we feel he also needs a home with another playful, energetic canine companion to help burn off steam. Because of his age, energy level, and vocal personality, Teddy is not a good fit for seniors or homes with shared walls. Teddy does not shed but does require professional grooming every 6 to 8 weeks. (Be prepared to tip them very well.) If you have a groomer referral, please include it with your application. Adoption Fee: $400. This includes spay or neuter, microchip, vaccines, heartworm testing, and current prevention.
