Story
Meet Dory! Beyond adorable, this little one may have the market cornered on cute, but she is also every bit as sweet!Until she found herself in need of rescue, Dory lived a very sheltered life. She had never been outside to feel the soft grass beneath her paws, and had not had any socialization with humans or animals. In spite of this, she is truly one of the sweetest, happiest little dogs you could hope to meet. She is gentle and welcoming when meeting other dogs, and we do feel she would benefit from having another older, or lower energy canine companion in her forever home, to help her learn the ropes on how to live her best doggy life.Because she has not been exposed to the outdoors in her past, she is still figuring out where she is supposed to go to the bathroom. Her Foster Mom has found using pee pads and a pen while she is not home to take her outside is a helpful way to manage and prevent accidents. Her forever family will need to reinforce her learning with frequent trips outside and lots of patience, countered with positive reinforcement to help her learn this new behaviour. Her FM tells us she has no qualms about being in her pen while she is at work or overnight, and shows no signs of separation anxiety or mischievous behaviour when she is unsupervised. When Dory first arrived, we were told she may have some serious heart issues, however our veterinary team have found no evidence of this on examination or X-ray. Like most Yorkies, she has a slightly enlarged heart, but it is not impacting her health at this time, and it is possible it will never be an issue for her. However, there is also a chance that as she ages, she may need medication to keep her heart beating efficiently...but that is truly an uncertainty at this time. She also has luxating patella's on her back legs, another trait typical to her breed. This does make long walks a little uncomfortable for her, but she is more than down for shorter walks during the day.As you can see in her photos, Dory has the cutest peekaboo tongue. This is because she has no teeth and as a result will require a soft diet for life. Unfortunately, we are not certain if her teeth were extracted, or if they fell out on their own, but either way, it does not impact her quality of life in any capacity and she enjoys all kinds of soft foods and treats. While Dory has not lived with cats to our knowledge, we feel her calm and happy nature would make her well suited to a home with cats. She would also be a great companion to older children, but younger ones may be too energetic for her as she does seem to prefer a calmer, more quiet environment so can relax and enjoy her daytime naps and chill sessions. As a non-shedding breed, she will required regular grooming to keep her coat tidy and mat free.?Dory was cuddly and affectionate from the first minute she arrived. She would love nothing more than to find a soft, warm lap to snuggle in. With a little work on the housetraining, she will make a wonderful addition to her forever home. Please note: only applications received through our web page at www.K9C.ca can be processed. Successful applicants are chosen by best fit, not first come first served.Due to the high volume of applications we receive, only those we feel would be a potential match are contacted.

Story
Meet Pal! This young dog is looking for a quiet home with an active lifestyle. His ideal match would be an active single person who is not away from home for extended periods of time.Pal loves human companionship, but it does take him some time to trust and warm up to any kind of physical touch. Loud noises also tend to stress him out, and this is why a quiet environment but active lifestyle is ideal for Pal. He would also benefit greatly from having a social dog in his home who can match his playful energy, but also help him to build confidence and feel safe.If you are looking for a walking companion, look no further than Pal! He loves adventures and will have his nose to the ground the entire time! Any walk that allows him the opportunity to dip his toe beans in water are his favourite! A rural home in a quiet neighbourhood would be the best fit for this little guy, as he is a little nervous and reactive around busy traffic. Walks are a very integral part of Pal's needs to stay in balance and as a high energy/anxiety dog, Pal is currently on Trazadone and Fluoxetine twice a day to help him regulate his emotions and reactivity. These are supports that Pal will need for life, in combination with lots of activity to be at his best and to feel his best as well.A fully fenced yard is an absolute must for Pal. Invisible or agricultural (hedges) will not be suitable for him.Pal is exceptionally clean and well-mannered in the home. He has no destructive behaviours, and is fully crate trained. Pal enjoys sharing toys while at play with another dog, but he has shown guarding tendencies with humans, so this will be something that has to be carefully monitored. We would not recommend Pal for a home with cats as he does like to chase and bark a them. We also feel that a kid-free environment is a must for Pal, and if his forever home has visitors, he should be crated as he could quickly become overwhelmed with a lot of noise and unusual activity.Pal is currently eating a wet food diet, and he enjoys liver treats as well. The true way to Pal's heart is to allow him a lot of time and space to feel safe before expecting too much from him. While he does love to be loved, it seems like he may have experienced some trauma and is very unsure of new people. His adopter will need to understand that he will need time and patience to feel safe and build his confidence before he will show his softer side.As a hypoallergenic, non-shedding dog, Pal will need regular grooms to keep his coat tidy and mat-free. Because of his sensitivity to touch, Pal currently needs to wear a soft muzzle while being groomed or examined at the vet but we have noticed some improvement in this area as he learns to trust humans.Only applications received through www.K9C.ca will be considered. Successful applicants are chosen by best fit, not first come first served. Please note that due to the high volume of applications we receive, only those we feel would be a potential match will be contacted further.
