"Big Bear" is a 3 year old male Akita looking for a forever home. He was recently surrendered to our facility as a very emaciated boy with severe skin/fur issues. He weighed just 57 lbs at intake. Since his intake, Bear has gained at least 20 lbs and is still gaining weight. He was at one point, close to 100 lbs so that will likely be where he will end up again by the time he is well. Likely due to his previous starvation, Bear has some food aggression and cannot be placed with children. He would do best in a home with Akita experience and might be fine with dog friends depending on demeanor. Bear does not like the vet and some services must be done with a specific approach or sedatives, but he truly is a good boy. He is eligible for rescue pull OR a very experienced dog savvy adopter (ideally with breed experience). His adoption fee is $150, and he is now neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm tested negative. Meet Carl! 🐾 10.5-year-old Akita | 75 lbs | Cream with red spots | Neutered | Up to date on all vaccinations Carl’s story is proof that second chances are worth it. Carl was found abandoned in someone’s yard, but animal control saw his sweet, loving personality right away and knew he deserved another shot. When he first came in, he was very sick, weighing just 55 lbs and so weak that we weren’t sure he would make it. With the right medical care and a whole lot of patience, time, and love, Carl is a totally different dog. Today he’s healthy, strong, and ready to enjoy his golden years. What Carl is like Carl loves to play, and he loves everyone he meets. All dogs, all humans, no exceptions. He’s not a cuddler and won’t ask to share the sofa or your bed, but he’ll happily trot over to say hi and rest his head on your knee for some attention. He’s also a built-in alarm clock, waking you with kisses when it’s time for first breakfast. Carl is crazy about food, especially when it comes from his wobble treat puzzle toy. He’s extremely smart and trainable when he feels like it (very typical Akita!). What Carl is still learning Carl doesn’t love being left alone, but he’s coming to trust that his humans will always come back. Leash manners are still a work in progress, and he’ll happily pull you toward every exciting thing on the walk. A fenced yard or a human who’s up for the challenge would be ideal. Carl’s perfect family Carl will thrive with people who know and love the Akita breed and want a devoted companion. Because he gets so excited about treats and can easily catch fingers, we don’t recommend a home with young children. Could you be the one to give Carl the home he’s been waiting for? Meet Juniper, the sweetest little clown you'll ever meet! ❤️ Juniper has a tiny confession to make. Apparently, the word Akita makes some people nervous. So she's decided to take matters into her own paws, put on a clown disguise, and hope nobody notices. 😂 But here's the thing about Juniper… she's basically a Golden Retriever trapped in an Akita's body! ❤️ This beautiful girl is approximately 12 months old, and I genuinely cannot say enough wonderful things about her. Juniper is one of the sweetest, cuddliest, most affectionate dogs you could ever meet. She doesn't just enjoy being petted. She LEANS her entire body into you, soaking up every ounce of love you're willing to give her. If she could crawl right into your lap and stay there forever, I think she would! She absolutely LOVES other dogs and would be thrilled to have a playful canine sibling. She's fun, goofy, incredibly smart, and has the kind of personality that makes you smile just being around her. And guess what? She's even passed her cat test! 🐱❤️ What breaks my heart is that people sometimes hear the word Akita and immediately lose interest. They haven't met her, watched her play, or experienced one of her famous full-body cuddles. They're judging this incredible girl by a breed label instead of the dog standing right in front of them. Juniper is so much more than whatever breeds might be in her DNA. She's a cuddle bug. A playmate. A goofy little sweetheart. A girl who wants nothing more than to love and be loved. She is such a smart girl who is crate trained, potty trained and working on her basic commands. She is working on walking on a leash and car rides (she gets really excited).
