Story
Otra is a gentle giant. Dog-friendly with dogs of all sizes. People-friendly, but may be too much for little kids. Super handsome, Otra, is an Akita mix and is the goofiest most well natured boy you’ll meet! He weighs around 95 pounds and is such a gorgeous fluffy boy.    Otra is great on leash, is crate trained, and is house trained. Otra lovessss other dogs, sometimes too much for their liking. He loves chasing his doggy friends' tails, which can sometimes annoy them. When he gets corrected, he gets so sad. He is essentially a 90lbs puppy. His ideal home would be one where he has a doggy friend to play with and preferably a fenced in yard.    Otra is a very loving boy. He is very playful and is mouthy during his playtime. He will give you his paw to trick you into putting your hand within reach so he can chew on it. It is adorable and not malicious in any way, but his future family must know about this and be okay with it!    Otra has a degenerative eye condition and will continue to lose his vision over time. Right now his vision is pretty good, but sudden movements do spook him, and he can be a little bit head shy. Due to his vision loss and mouthiness, Otra is looking for a home without small children.       (DOB 8/29/2019) As part of Otra’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.  If you have questions about this sweet boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Otra, you can fill in an online application by going to our website and clicking the" Adopt"  button on his profile at:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##1860067##

Story
TAFFY is a 4 YO, 65 LB Akita Taffy was found wandering the roads, starving and frightened. Today, she is recovering like a champion! While we don't know what past difficulties happened to Taffy, they clearly haven’t changed her happy and loving nature. As playful as she is beautiful, Taffy shows the profound loyalty Akita's have for their "person" and home. With a big, open smile that breaks out the moment she sees you, this pedigree girl is true to her breed: she is very affectionate, thrives on human companionship and is dedicated to protecting her "pack”.  Due to the nature of her breed, she needs a male counterpart. Akitas tend to do well with opposite sex dogs, but do not do well with same sex dogs. NO CATS! At first, Taffy may be a little shy and cautious, but she quickly gains confidence.  Taffy is very curious!   She loves to give kisses and surprisingly knows some basic commands - we are teaching her more.  We see nothing but bright days ahead for her!  She is leash trained and potty trained.  She needs someone who has both the time and resources to teach her all the things she needs to be her best self!  She is very smart, so she will catch on fast!  She is extremely sweet and doesn't have a mean bone in her body, in fact, she does so well at the vet's office, they brag about how sweet & beautiful she is!   If you'd like to give this first-class girl her second chance, forever home, she will require moderate exercise and plenty of time to play!  She needs a fenced backyard as she loves to run and play ball with her foster fur-siblings!   If you would like to be considered for Taffy, please fill out an adoption application online at www.crisisdogsnc.org. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We provide transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!  April 25, 2024, 5:47 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. You MUST complete a Best Friend Pet Adoption application if you are interested in Tesla.  Please fill out our dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window:   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC     Tesla (Tes) is an exuberant, friendly girl with lots of personality. She is roughly 4-5 years old, ~65lbs and appears to be a Husky, Shepherd, possibly Carolina Dog mix - whatever mix she is - she is absolutely beautiful, especially with her stunning blue eyes!   Tes is housebroken/crate trained and is normally crated when no one is home. She has been left for 8 hours during work days with no potty issues. She needs a large crate (42" - 48") as she likes to sprawl wide open and sleeps belly up in some of the cutest positions. She usually sleeps in her crate at night, but has done well sleeping out overnight and enjoys snuggling up on the couch. Tes wouldn't be suitable in an apartment and would do best with a fenced yard. She can be vocal at times and will definitely alert you that someone/something is at the door or yard. She does fine with the 4ft chain link at her foster home.   Tesla has medium-high energy. Since she's been settled in her foster home, she doesn't require a ton of exercise, but does need daily physical simulation/lots of outdoor time for her to explore - she likes to entertain herself with a ball/toy. Tes would do just fine as an only dog or with a well matched neutered male - similar to her size and play style. She prefers a dog that she can run around with for a few minutes then she likes to hang outside and sunbathe (on cooler days). She doesn't like a dog that is too overwhelming with excitement or that inappropriately invades her space.   Tesla will do best with a confident handler that is calm, consistent and provides guidance. She can be visually excited on walks, but she redirects easy with verbal or treat praise. She may need a few reminders to walk with manners, and once she knows you're not going to allow her to pull with excitement, she walks wonderfully. She is very smart, occasionally stubborn, but when you follow through with what you ask her to do, she is respectful and eager to please. She is food motivated and knows basic commands (sit, down & come) and waits patiently for her meals.   Tes has been observed with children twice and did well. Older children (8+) probably better than youngsters since she is larger and easily excitable. In previous foster homes, she has done ok with confident "dog-friendly" cats. If a kitty is shy and runs, the chase may be too fun. Slow and appropriate kitty introductions are highly recommended to create a successful relationship.   EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Tesla was picked up as a stray by animal control after she was hit by car. She had a fractured pelvis that was able to heal on its own. She has been waiting over a year to find a home to call her own, please consider meeting her! She would love to meet you!!   Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    We prefer that applicants live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore prefer applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. We will consider applicants who live further away if we  feel the home is right for this sweet girl.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING TESLA ? Story
Shalamar is an amazing all white purebred husky. She’s 4 years old. She’s (mostly) house broken, and fully crate trained. She needs a home with a very active family and plenty of space to run outside. She’s great with kids and other dogs. We have a cat who she gets along with perfectly. We’re re-homing shalamar due to her separation anxiety. When we leave, she gets nervous and has torn apart some household items. We unfortunately don’t have the time or means to train her to break the separation issues. Outside of that, she’s a dream of a dog who loves belly rubs, licking and cuddles. Adoption fee is to ensure she goes to a loving home that cares about her. Fee can be discussed for the right forever home.
