Story
Hello! I came to the shelter as a stray. The kind people that found me were able to give me a bath with no issues (I was a little stinky). They report that I am shy about cars and stairs, but they were able to pick me up and carry me with no issues (of course I`m a big dog so I was heavy). I`m friendly and I love playing and exploring. I was found with another dog and we got along well, but I`ll definitely need slow, planned, monitored introductions to any other dogs in a new home. It is unknown how I might behave around cats. Visit this page for more information about properly introducing pets.Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive, but don`t worry - OCAS will cover the cost of my treatment. Staff members at the shelter can give you more information about that if you are interested in adopting me.In North Carolina, it`s unfortunately common to see many dogs that are infected with heartworms (they are transmitted by mosquito bites). Heartworm disease may cause severe lung disease, heart failure, or other organ damage in dogs. It`s usually fatal if left untreated. Heartworm treatment is costly. With your support, OCAS can help more dogs with this disease - resulting in healthier dogs that are even more likely to get adopted. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe campaign.

Story
Pippa is an exceptional, healthy 3-year-old spayed female Husky with a wonderful temperament. She is being rehomed solely due to a change in my personal circumstances that no longer allow me to meet her physical/social needs. She has never shown any aggression or reactivity and is friendly, playful, and very well socialized with dogs of all sizes and ages. She is gentle with babies and young children and affectionate with new people. Pippa is house-trained, crate-trained, and obedience trained, responding reliably to sit, stay/wait, and go to place/crate. She loves fetch, running, long walks, yard play, and playing with other dogs. Indoors she is calm, non-destructive, enjoys puzzle and chew toys, and rarely barks. She travels well and is comfortable in cars and planes. She has a high prey drive and is continuing work on leash manners and recall. Ideal home: a fully fenced yard (6 ft minimum) or a very active owner. A home with another dog is strongly preferred. Ideally cat-free.
