Sienna is a 2 year old Alaskan Klee Klai who is very sweet. Sienna is fearful of large men and requires a female owner. She is being rehomed due to her fear. She is house trained and knows basic commands like “come”, “sit” “stay” “lay down”. We are heartbroken to have to rehome her but she deserves a life without being fearful.

Meet Athena 💕🐾 Athena is an 18-month-old, 59-pound bundle of sweetness, energy, and adventure looking for her forever home. Athena’s Story Athena was found wandering alone in a shopping mall parking lot. A foster’s daughter began feeding her and sharing posts about her, hoping someone would step up to help. Sadly, nobody did — so Athena was given the chance she deserved, and she has been safe with her foster family since August 23, 2026. Now, she’s ready to find a family of her own. What She’s Like: Athena is sweet, smart, playful, and incredibly entertaining. She absolutely loves having fun and is happiest when she has people, dogs, toys, and adventures around her. She is an active girl who loves to play with other dogs. In fact, she loves them so much that we strongly recommend a home with another active, energetic dog or regular access to doggy daycare or playtime with canine friends. Athena also loves her toys and is a very smart girl who enjoys staying busy. She is very much a water dog and would love a family who enjoys exploring — especially oceans, lakes, and anywhere she can experience a new adventure. 🌊 She also loves riding in the car, making her an excellent potential companion for long drives, road trips, and exploring new places together. 🚗🐾 Athena’s Home Skills • 🏡 House-trained: Yes • 🐾 Crate-trained: Yes — she sleeps comfortably in a 42-inch crate • 🚗 Car-trained: Yes, and she loves riding in the car • 🐶 Dogs: Absolutely loves other dogs • 👧 Children: Yes, she loves kids • 🐱 Cats: Curious about cats and would need appropriate introductions and supervision • ⚡ Energy level: Active Her Ideal Home Athena would thrive with active owners who want a dog to be part of their adventures. ABOUT CHESTER If you're looking for a gigantic snuggly buddy, Chester is your guy! This handsome man is a 6-year-old Husky mix with a huge body and even bigger heart. Chester came to HAP when he was found as a stray. Sadly, his owners did not want to reclaim him, so now he's hoping for a fresh start! Understandably, his first few days here, Chester was very confused to be in a shelter. Despite those initial worries, he really began to shine connecting with our staff and volunteers! At just under 90 lbs., Chester is a big boy who gets super excited to see his friends. He can be a little strong on leash if he sees a squirrel or bird, naturally. However, he is already house-trained and super food motivated to learn. Chester has thrived in our Doggy Day Out program, enjoying breaks from the shelter with our volunteers. Check out what a few had to say about him: "Chester was so much fun today!! He is such a happy boy and loved going on a walk in Newark with us. He was unbothered by other people and dogs and was content doing his own thing. He has a lot of energy on the leash but listens really well. He is definitely food motivated and did great sitting and taking treats. We opened the windows for a few minutes and clearly he loved that haha anyone would be lucky to have this ball of energy join their family!" - Jenn "Chester was such a good boy. We went to a few parks. He was a very good passenger although I think he would have liked to ride in front at times. He’s so big and athletic that getting in and out of the SUV was so easy for him. He did well in passing others while walking. He didn’t bark the whole time we were out. He knows how to sit and give his paw. I’m not so sure about down, though. He is so gentle when he takes treats. He really loved the frozen treat that I gave him." - Karen "A great morning with Chester! We went for a 2.5 mile walk around the UD campus and he made lots of friends with everyone walking by. He pulls a lot when he hears a squirrel but is otherwise unbothered on the leash, he just needs a quick circle back now and then to make sure all his friends are with him. He wanted booty scratches and belly rubs from all the strangers and was snuggled up all close and personal with them. He really is a completely different dog out of the shelter, so chill and calm and just wants to be loved on." - Julie If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues and places homeless, neglected or abused dogs from high-kill shelters in the south into loving, responsible committed and permanent homes. We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you! Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes. Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here, you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site. Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take rover (or spot, or jax) home with you that very day. A couple of things you should know: We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email. Adoption fees vary based on breed. All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed).
