Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Plum but we affectionately refer to her as Alice, a name that seems to resonate well with her, even though her response to names is not particularly strong yet. Alice is thriving and displays a gentle and sweet demeanor, especially towards my 11-year-old son. Evidently, she has spent considerable time with children and relishes their company. She eagerly joins my son in bed, finding her way under the covers to peacefully doze off—a clear indication of her yearning for a permanent home. Alice's physical attributes contribute to her charm, boasting surprisingly soft fur and a tender face, possibly hinting at some American Bulldog lineage. She delights in showering affection by licking faces endlessly and enjoys being cradled on her back like a baby for extended periods. While she responds well to commands like "crate up," occasional reinforcement is needed. Generally quiet and composed once settled, Alice has never indulged in people food, eliminating any begging behavior. However, if something piques her interest, she positions herself as close as allowed, even attempting to snatch it if not deterred. Her recall skills, especially outdoors, are lacking, likely stemming from a past where she had ample freedom to roam. Reactivity and impulse control pose challenges, particularly around lawnmowers, other dogs, loud vehicles, and joggers. Her behavior around these situations can be unpredictable at times so it necessitates careful management with a gentle leader and harness. A friend, who is a dog trainer, has confirmed these challenges but believes they are not insurmountable, with patience and professional guidance. Residing in a wooded area with a fenced yard, Alice spends her time observing wildlife, offering a positive outlet for her energy. She coexists well with another dog in the household. Alice is bright and quick to learn when motivated. Her sleep habits lean towards a more laid-back hound-like pattern, not exhibiting an early riser tendency. Alice's athleticism shines through in the backyard, where she bounces energetically and engages in enthusiastic pursuits. It's worth noting that she has endured past abuse, evident in moments of flinching during seemingly innocuous activities, highlighting the importance of understanding her background in shaping her behavior. Overall, with the right guidance and patience, Alice, the sweet and spirited dog, has the potential to overcome her challenges and thrive in a loving forever home. Plum is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* This sassy senior is still looking for her forever home.  Phyllis is looking for that special someone who understands an old lady may not always feel her prettiest and therefore wants to be left alone, may have extended nap sessions and sometimes just wants to pig out.   Phyllis would rather have short walks to her food dish and potty spot than long walks on the beach, or up and down many stairs, and she would prefer a spot where she can sleep near you so she knows you're sticking around. Phyllis does snore (as any self respecting bulldog does) so earplugs may be necessary if she sleeps right next to you.   Phyllis likes to talk. She likes to tell you when she wants attention, when she is hungry, when she has to potty and most importantly when she needs to be tucked in.  (Phyllis always prefers to be tucked in when she goes to sleep.)   Phyllis enjoys playing with you but not so much alone.  Squeaky toys are her favorite but she loves her lamby too. Phyllis knows to bring toys back and does so for as long as she wants to play.    Phyllis has lots of love left to give and wants to find the special person who wants to give it back. Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Phyllis is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Barbara! She ticks off all the boxes for an ideal dog, although she does have some mobility challenges. Barbara is excellent in her kennel, where she also sleeps at night. She gets along great with other dogs, enjoying both playtime and cuddles with them. She's a good traveler in the car. Barbara rarely barks, usually only when she's excited during play with other dogs. If she feels stuck on a rug and can't cross the wooden floor, she might whine. While she manages well in her wheelchair for short periods, she struggles on hard flooring and prefers carpet or rugs. She's an amazing little dog! While we're uncertain about her interactions with cats and younger children due to lack of exposure, I believe she'd do well with both. Barbara is generally fine with strangers, a bit reserved initially but quick to warm up. Despite her limitations, she's fond of snuggling, whether on furniture or with a fuzzy blanket and dog bed. Barbara adores playing with her toys, chewing on bones, and engaging with the other dogs in the household. Despite her mobility issues, she's just as active and playful as ever. One of her ears always stands up, while the other never does. Barbara's typical day involves spending time at home with my husband, lounging on her dog bed, playing with the other dogs, and taking naps in her kennel. Several days a week, she accompanies me to the vet clinic where she spends the day kenneled. She receives plenty of attention and love from everyone at the clinic, watching us work and interacting with various dogs and cats. She's a joy in the kennel, and her involuntary little kicks are absolutely adorable as she hops around in and out of her cart. Barbara is from an owner surrender. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi everyone! I’m Chewy!!! I’m a fun loving guy looking for my adventure buddy. I LOVE people and other dogs. I get super bouncy when I see them and gently say hello when I get to meet them. I love playing with my toys, chewing on bones, and playing with my foster brother who teaches me how to dog.     My foster mom is teaching me fetch and lots of manners that I didn’t know I needed. I didn’t have my mom or siblings or another dog to play with until now so I’m having to learn that playing hard with my mouth isn’t nice and I have to learn to do it gently. I do love treats so I’m very motivated to learn and do take my treats super gentle. I know “off” and “sit”, and am learning down, stay, and gentle. I play nice with the kitties in the house and they let me know when I’m being too rough. My foster brother also tells me when I’m being rude.   My foster mom says that I have come a long way so far and thinks I need a strong leader who will keep up my training. She also thinks having a confident dog in my new home would be a good idea to keep teaching me how to dog, or some buddies that I could play with a lot as I’m a social guy and could learn a lot from them. My foster mom loves seeing me run zoomies around the yard showing what a happy and carefree pup I am. I love crawling up into her lap for some snuggles and belly rubs.    Ooh and I LOVE going for cars rides!! I love watching the scenery go by and smelling all the smells. I’d love to go on some adventures and see all the sights- ya wanna come with?   Chewy is from a local reservation partner.
