Story
Meet Percy! Percy is a super friendly, wiggly cuddle monster who has no concept of personal space, he loves to sit right on top of his people and soak up all the affection he can get. He’s confident, playful, and always excited to meet new people, greeting everyone with a wagging tail and lots of enthusiasm. Percy does great with other dogs in the home but is reactive on walks, barking and lunging when he sees other dogs. He also has a strong prey drive and will try to chase squirrels and birds. He’s currently being fostered in a busy downtown environment and is adjusting well, though he sometimes alert barks when he hears someone in the hallway (usually just one bark before settling). When it comes to food, Percy is happy with anything, but he especially enjoys wet food mixed into his kibble. He’s house trained but still adjusting to his crate and being left alone. He’s made great progress, he used to bark loudly but now settles with just a little whimpering before sleeping. He loves being near his people and will happily follow them from room to room. His forever family should be prepared to help him build confidence in being alone with consistent training and patience. Percy would thrive in an active home with a family that can provide him with structure, training, and, most importantly, lots of love. He’s a confident, affectionate boy who will bring endless snuggles and joy to his forever family! Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Percy? Pepe- Wiggly, Wagging, One of a Kind, This friendly guy meets everyone with a wiggly body and wagging tail. Pepe is a high energy pup that’s looking for an active family that is wiling to invest in his training, socialization and provide plenty of daily exercise and attention. A one of a kind pup with those distinctive ears!ABOUT PEPE:Believed to be an American Bulldog MixApproximately 4 year old neutered male, weighing 19 kg / 40 poundsPepe craves human interaction, he’s friendly with everyone he meets Food motivated and eager to learn new thingsHe is microchipped and up to date on his vaccinationsPEPE’S IDEAL HOME:Active family prepared to invest in his basic training, socialization and regular daily exercise and fun activitiesHe knows sit and is learning to walk well on leash but will need more training and supervision to make a successful transition into a new home environmentA home with direct access to a yard would be ideal to help with his training He hasn’t shown any reactivity to other dogs while in our care and seems eager to meet them. So he maybe ok in a home with another dog provided there is a slow and supervised introduction. We are not recommending Pepe for a home with cats, small animals or young children (under 12 years) because he hasn’t been tested. He may have a prey drive because he’s hard on stuffed toys at the shelter. If you are looking for a one of a kind, friendly companion and are committed to furthering his training, please submit an online application.

Story
Dolly was found roaming stray in terrible condition and taken in by our local Animal Control. She has clearly lived a very neglected life- she has had many many litters, her teeth are in terrible condition, her coat was just filthy, and a funny looking back end from having way too many puppies. Of course, nobody came forward to claim her. Unfortunately, when little Dolly was being led out of her kennel she pulled towards some kibble on the floor in another kennel and other small dog pushed her head through the bars and grabbed Dolly's nose and upper lip, causing a big injury. Sadly, the shelter was not able to financially support Dolly's medical issues, and as no rescue had come forward for her yet, she was marked for euthanasia the next day. Thankfully we were made aware of her and pulled her into rescue just in time! Despite her clear neglect in her previous life, Dolly is the absolute sweetest little girl and just loves people so much! She is so gentle, loves climbing on people's laps and rolling over for belly rubs. She was so patient when shelter staff gave her baths, and is so gentle taking food! She has tested neutral/passive with other dogs but not a match for a home with cats or small animals. Dolly has done very well with all people that she's met, including young kids! She can jump up a bit, so if her forever home has kids, the parents will have to be realistic about managing dog-child interactions... especially if little kids have food! Dolly is incredibly food motivated and while she does not have any food aggression issues with people, we don't think she's above trying to steal easy snacks for loose little fingers! Dolly is crate trained and housetrained. She is very well behaved in her crate and is used to being crated for up to 8 hour workday without issues. Now that she's feeling better, Dolly can get excited when her people come home and it's time to come out of her crate, and she can be pushy at thresholds. She is working on calmness coming out of the crate, at doors, jumping up and being pushy for food. in her normal everyday routine, Dolly is very calm and loved napping on a warm comfy dog bed. Dolly's one true love is food! She is working on her basic commands without food as a motivation, but is very easy to train with food! She is quick to pop into commands asked, but does need work on duration and holding commands. It seems like Dolly has had very little training in her previous life, but she is very happy and eager to please. She will try being pushy for food and has attempted to counter surf, so she will need a forever family that can work on this behaviour and ensure she doesn't successfully snag anything yummy! Counter surfing can be a tough habit to break once pups have had success at it! Despite being a small girl, Dolly is quite strong and doesn't mind putting her full weight into pulling towards things that she wants. She needs some work on her leash skills, and being calm and well behaved in public. Dolly just thinks that everyone is her best friend, and the world revolves around her! Dolly is looking for a forever family that can spoil her and give her the cushiest, healthiest and most loving lifestyle that she never had in her previous life! She will need someone confident who can work on her basic training, and help her be the best behaved version of herself! DOLLY FIRST IMPRESSIONS: 45lb (f) American Bully - Good with dogs (passive, neutral) - No cats - Best with no small prey animals (was good with chickens when standing still, but prey drive kicked in when they flapped/flew) - Loves all people, good with strangers -Good with kids -Medium energy. Story
Our little bold Colt is looking for his forever home! This wild young guy kind of reminds of us of a young powerhorse... a colt if you will! Colt is only 65lbs, but has a biiiiiig personality! Colt is an energetic, young, happy go lucky guy who wants to be included in every adventure! He is a 0 to 100 kind of guy - likes to snuggle up on a cozy bed with his people and snore, and then likes to move full speed onto the next thing to do! Colt needs to work on his off-switch and calming down faster after waking up and coming in from walks, as he has been known to enthusiastically slide on the hardwood floors as a repercussion of his top-speed antics! We've been keeping him on leash for the first 10 minutes, then he's a calm boy who can navigate the house at a normal pace. Colt came from a very unstable, negligent household who evidently did not spend much time on training or structure. Despite his rocky upbringing, Colt is a very happy and affectionate boy who loves everyone that he meets! He is very enthusiastic and likes to jump up, give kisses and lean on people for affection. Colt is working on keeping 4 on the floor and receiving affection calmly. He's making a lot of progress, but every now and again needs a reminder. Colt can be great friends with other dogs, but would do best with proper introductions. He can come in fast and show tense body language when meeting new dogs, but with slow introductions loves to engage in appropriate play. He is high energy and enjoys the company of other happy-go-lucky or confident dogs! Colt can be too much for insecure or small breeds, and will keep advancing and be pushy if they show fearful behaviour. He is best matched with calm, passive dogs, and generally leaves them alone. He requires a home without small animals, and responsible owners who will not let him roam off leash, visit dog parks, or put him in situations that set him up for failure. He is a bulldog through and through, and is looking for a bulldog experienced home that understands and respects the breed. Colt does have some resource guarding around food with other dogs, but not with people. Eating and getting treats is best done separately for him. He has been fine receiving hand fed kibble beside his foster brothers, but can be possessive over dropped kibble. Best to just keep resources separate. Colt loves food and loves to please, and follows commands well! He knows sit, down, paw, "place", go to crate on command, and knows to sit at all doors. He is working at duration during training, and not jumping up out of excitement. Colt does have a stubborn streak, but positive reinforcement is very effective - he will do anything for food! Colt is looking for a forever home who will continue his training to help him become the best version of himself! Outside, Colt is very happy and playful! He is a high energy boy who would love dog sports like canicross! He needs a lot of work on his leash skills - he knows he's a strong boy, and he sure loves adventure! He hasn't been too interested in fetch or playing with toys independently for more than a few seconds, but prefers to play when his people are involved. He loves bones and kongs, but hasn't quite figured out toys like kibble filled roller-balls. Colt does very well holding the "place" command. Structure will be really important in his new home to tap into his off-switch and help him relax. Once he's calm, he loves a little couch snuggle and resting his head on his people! This big love bug loves belly rubs, kisses and just being beside his people. He is incredibly affectionate and wins over everybody that he meets! Colt is being fostered in Flamborough, Ontario with 3 male neutered dogs. His best friend is another young big pushy happy-go-lucky balanced bulldog who he can play with, but he is also respectful of his passive and frail senior golden retriever brother's space. When Colt first arrived he would posture and show tense intimidating body language with his other foster brother who is insecure and does not like new intact dogs, but his foster parents kept him on leash to ensure space and advocate for both dogs, and now they are neutral/passive around each other. COLT FIRST IMPRESSIONS: 2yo (m) Bulldog X - 65lbs -Good with large dogs, needs proper introductions -No cats, small animals, small dogs -Loves everybody, every stranger is his new best friend -Kids 15+. Colt likes kids, but is a lot of dog and likes to body-check and lean on people -Good on leash on transitional slip leash (head halter) -Crate trained -Housetrained -Great food drive, loves training -Very affectionate -High energy -Barks to alert strangers, but quiet in normal routine -Good in car, likes to sit beside his people and get pets like a best friend (foster home has a van with no center console, so he can be right beside mom!) -Very smart, loves to please -Can be stubborn -Curious, likes to investigate everything! Story
Introducing Axel: The Energetic Pup Ready for His Fresh Start! (case #01-06-OTC-06) Meet Axel, an 8-month-old American Bulldog cross with a heart as big as his paws! This playful, curious pup arrived as an unclaimed stray with his brother, and while they share a similar temperament, Axel is ready to find his own path and start a brand-new adventure with his forever family. Axel is a smart, spirited young dog who has a lot to learn, but he’s eager to soak up knowledge and grow. He’s got a wonderful, friendly nature, but like any young pup, he’ll benefit from some training classes to help him become the well-mannered companion he’s meant to be. With the right guidance and consistency from his new family, Axel will thrive and become the confident, well-behaved boy we know he can be. A wise and steady dog in his new home would be a perfect mentor for Axel, helping him learn the ropes and adjust to his new routine. Axel is also a great candidate for a home with small animals and cats, as long as introductions are done slowly and carefully. His friendly nature makes him a promising match for households with other pets. One thing to keep in mind: Axel has a serious appetite! He arrived with an eagerness for food, and while there are no signs of food guarding at this time, he’ll benefit from a foster or adopter who is willing to work on food games and trading exercises to help him build confidence and prevent any potential issues down the line. Axle is currently in a foster home with a cat and a senior dog. He is respectful of their space and is doing well sleeping in a crate at nighttime. He is a fast learner and is catching on quickly, learning that he cannot put his paws on the counter or go on the couch. Axel may still be a work in progress, but his loving, curious nature is just waiting to shine with the right family. If you’re ready to invest time and patience into helping Axel grow into the best version of himself, he’ll reward you with endless love, loyalty, and joy. Ready to give Axel the fresh start he’s dreaming of? Complete an adoption application for this charming boy today and see how quickly he’ll steal your heart!
