Story
Meet Gemma!Gemma is a super duper active gal who's full of pizzazz! Gemma was brought into care under murky circumstances, so we don't have much history for her. We do know that Gemma had a litter of puppies in her past.Gemma does have a lot of energy, and will need a pawrent who can physically handle her, and give her the amount of mental and physical exercise she'll need to live an enriched and fulfilled life. Gemma would do well to work with an Animal Kind Certified Trainer in her new home. She may prefer to be the only dog in the house but has potential to make doggy friends given a proper introduction!Do you think you could be Gemma's person? Here are some ways to find out: 1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Tuesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or 2.) Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs.*Side note: the more you add to your application about you and what you are looking for in a canine companion, the better we can match animals with adopters! Story
**Currently fostered in Houston Texas but is available for out of state adoption via rescue transportation. Virtual meet and greet offered prior to adoption commitment** Kyra is a happy go lucky pup who found herself abandoned on the streets. She was emaciated, had poor skin and just full of worms. Thankfully an amazing woman found her and took her in. She got her clean, well fed, and fully vetted. Now, Kyra is ready to start the next chapter in her adventure! Kyra is just over 2 years old, and is a total hambone of a dog. We believe she is some kind of pitbull, retriever, hound mix. Basically what we call, a Texas Street Special! Whatever her breed, she is all adventure pup and very eager for life. Kyra loves people, I don't think she could ever meet a stranger. She's extremely loving, and enjoys cuddles on the couch, giving kisses, and looking cute for treats! We think she would even do wonderfully with children. Kyra has done wonderful with other dogs as well. She is fantastic at her doggie daycare, does well at dog parks, and loves to play. She doesn't mind the cats, She does chase them at times when she just wants to play. Kyra is not an aggressive dog, but she can lack the meaning of personal space and some of the cats we've introduced her to have not taken kindly to that. We think she could do well in just about any home, however, she would prefer to have regular play mates that can keep up with her be it siblings or play mates from friends, neighbors or daycare environment. She just wants to enjoy life with someone! Kyra does very well with training, mostly due to the fact that she's so smart. She learns quickly, and at times, can be TOO smart. Like how she knows how to push the door open if it's not latched properly. She knows her basics such as sit, kennel, stay. Her only need for training is working on her impulse control. She is fully crate trained, and is doing fantastic with her leash training. She is housebroken, but being such a big pup still, we suggest using a kennel until fully acclimated. Though she quite enjoys cuddling in the bed or couch. Kyra is fully vetted, meaning she is current on all vaccinations and preventions. She is spayed as well as microchipped too. Story
Meet Mick, a smart, affectionate dog looking for a loving home where he can be the center of attention. He would thrive as the only pet in the household, though he gets along well with dogs outside of the home. Mick has some separation anxiety, so he needs a patient and understanding guardian who can help him with slow departure exercises as he adjusts to his new environment.Mick is comfortable with teenagers but would do best in a home without young children. He enjoys outdoor activities, particularly running around in the yard playing fetch, and he's a joy to walk on a leash. At the end of the day, Mick loves nothing more than cuddling up on the couch with his people. His eagerness to please and his intelligence make him an incredibly rewarding companion for someone willing to invest in his emotional well-being and training. If you're looking for a loyal and loving dog to share your home with, Mick could be the perfect fit for you! Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet Mick. Story
Hi my name is Lexie. I am looking for my new family as my last pawernts had to move and I was unable to go with them. The staff here at the shelter are pretty amazing, but i would like a place that I can call home. I love going out for walks and sniffing around. I am very good on leash, and listen pretty well. I am a little over weight and could use some help with that. I am not a picky eater and of course I do love my treats. Last thing I would like to preferably be the only pet in the home. Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet me. You can also submit an application online if I am in foster or you would like to save some time when you come visit. Story
Hi my name is Bronx and I am a handsome but pretty shy guy. I need some time to warm up to people and to trust that you won't hurt me. i have had a hard past and wasn't treated so well so I'm pretty scared of most people right now. I would never hurt anyone but I will definitely run away if you come on too strong. I have made a couple of human friends in these nice girls that work at the shelter and have shown them how sweet and gentle I am now that I know they won't hit me. It may take me some to warm up to you but I promise to be a good boy if you treat me with kindness. I'm sorry, I think I am too scared to be around children but maybe older teenagers would be ok. I do love other dogs though and enjoy playing with my many doggie friends here at the shelter. I don't want to fetch or chase anything, the girls say I have low prey drive, whatever that is. I might even be ok with cats but they don't have any here for me to visit with so I can't say for sure. What I need is to get out of the shelter and into a home where I can feel safe and be petted and loved and lay in a nice dog bed. I walk very nicely on a leash and I don't react to anything. But I don't want strangers trying to pet me, it's a scary thing for me and it makes me want to retreat. Can you be my forever home? I need someone that can promise to keep me safe. I am neutered and am up to date on my shots. I was recently in a foster home for several weeks and am housebroken and very respectful in the home. I am not ok to live in a busy environment or an apartment complex. It is too loud and I am scared of the noises. I would love a quiet, detached, adult only home with another dog to keep me company and to help me overcome my worries. At City of Vancouver Animal Services, we have a foster-to-adopt program whereby prospective new owners foster the adoptable animal for 21 days before committing to adoption. This ensures that both the new owner and the adoptable animal are well suited to each other. Adoption Fee $374 Includes: -Spay/Neuter -First set of shots -One vet visit -Microchip -Bag of food If you live in Vancouver, you will also need to buy a dog license.

Story
Meet Sailor, This guy is a lil gem, Sailor is a young male puppy about 5-6 months old, in fact he is just loosing his baby teeth! Sailor is an active dog who will need a new household dedicated to a training routine. He has a lot of overstimulated puppy brain at the moment and will benefit from an owner who can help him learn and grow. We anticipate Sailors needs in his new home are households with older kids 10+, he is mouthy and jumpy and we find small children do not handle that well. He would be a good addition to a household with another dog(s). He has been very friendly and playful with the other dogs here. Just make sure your resident dog can handle puppy energy and play cause it can be a lot!!! As for cats, he may do well being trained and socialized with a cat who is savvy around dogs, but he may also really want to chase and play, so please ensure your cat can handle that. With a little bit of time and training Sailor will be an amazing addition to a new household! We cant wait to see him grow and prosper with his new family!
