Story
**Currently fostered in Houston Texas but is available for out of state adoption via rescue transportation. Virtual meet and greet offered prior to adoption commitment** Kyra is a happy go lucky pup who found herself abandoned on the streets. She was emaciated, had poor skin and just full of worms. Thankfully an amazing woman found her and took her in. She got her clean, well fed, and fully vetted. Now, Kyra is ready to start the next chapter in her adventure! Kyra is just over 2 years old, and is a total hambone of a dog. We believe she is some kind of pitbull, retriever, hound mix. Basically what we call, a Texas Street Special! Whatever her breed, she is all adventure pup and very eager for life. Kyra loves people, I don't think she could ever meet a stranger. She's extremely loving, and enjoys cuddles on the couch, giving kisses, and looking cute for treats! We think she would even do wonderfully with children. Kyra has done wonderful with other dogs as well. She is fantastic at her doggie daycare, does well at dog parks, and loves to play. She doesn't mind the cats, She does chase them at times when she just wants to play. Kyra is not an aggressive dog, but she can lack the meaning of personal space and some of the cats we've introduced her to have not taken kindly to that. We think she could do well in just about any home, however, she would prefer to have regular play mates that can keep up with her be it siblings or play mates from friends, neighbors or daycare environment. She just wants to enjoy life with someone! Kyra does very well with training, mostly due to the fact that she's so smart. She learns quickly, and at times, can be TOO smart. Like how she knows how to push the door open if it's not latched properly. She knows her basics such as sit, kennel, stay. Her only need for training is working on her impulse control. She is fully crate trained, and is doing fantastic with her leash training. She is housebroken, but being such a big pup still, we suggest using a kennel until fully acclimated. Though she quite enjoys cuddling in the bed or couch. Kyra is fully vetted, meaning she is current on all vaccinations and preventions. She is spayed as well as microchipped too. Story
Meet Bart! Bart is a 9 year old pitbull mix looking for a forever home full of scritches and smooches! Bart is a very affectionate dog, and his favourite place to be is in your lap, or right at your feet. He loves to flop over on his back for belly rubs, and once he gets his snuggles in he will curl up and start snoring up a storm! Bart doesn't like other dogs very much, so we think this senior fella would be happiest in a home where he doesn't have to share the spotlight. He loves going for long walks where he can explore the world with his nose, although if its raining you can forget it! Bart came to us in rough shape, covered in fleas and with painful rashes all over his legs and belly. He also had a severely damaged eye that required surgical removal but he is recovering very well and learning to navigate his world without it! Thanks to a hypoallergenic diet and some TLC, Bart is on the road to recovery, and the SPCA is committed to making sure that Bart lives a discomfort-free life. Despite these difficult circumstances, Bart has been a happy and energetic pup with staff and volunteers alike! Bart would be happy in either a house or an apartment, and is fully housetrained. If you want to get to know Bart, come visit him at the Vancouver SPCA today! Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet me. Story
About Athena Athena is a three-year-old Pit Bull/American Bulldog cross, a mix known for its strength, intelligence, and deep loyalty to its people. These breeds tend to thrive in active homes that can match their enthusiasm, provide structure, and enjoy a life full of adventure. We don't know much about Athena's past, but what we do know is that she has shown friendliness, curiosity, and a whole lot of love during her time with us. She is bright, people‑oriented, and always ready to greet her humans with excitement. At around a year old, Athena is still very much in her teenage phase-playful, energetic, and eager to explore the world. Athena would be the perfect partner for someone who loves getting outside and staying active. Training & Support Athena is a high-energy girl who responds well to positive, reward-based training. Treats, praise, and structure help her stay focused and build her confidence. Like many young dogs, she's still learning boundaries, and gentle, consistent guidance will help her continue to grow into a well-mannered companion. She does display mild resource guarding with high‑value toys and chews, which is not uncommon. This is manageable with training, clear routines, and setting her up for success by avoiding triggers in the home. Athena is very smart and food motivated, making her eager to learn and quick to pick up new skills. Ideal Home Athena would do best in a home that can give her the outlet she needs for her energy and excitement, whether that’s regular walks, hikes, or fun training sessions that keep her brain busy. She loves people and is affectionate but would be happiest in a home without other pets or children. Although Athena needs to be the only dog in the home, she still enjoys interacting with other compatible dogs outside, particularly friendly males. Athena's enthusiasm, energy, and lovable personality will make any day brighter in your home! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ready to Apply? Story
About Cordelia Cordelia is an approximately 2‑year‑old Pit Bull with a soft, gentle soul. Dogs like Cordelia are often known for their affectionate and people‑oriented nature, and she shows that in her own quiet, tender way. Cordelia was found as a stray and was struggling with severe ear infections at the time. She has since received vet care and is now healing well and feeling more comfortable. While her history is largely unknown, her behaviour with us has shown her to be sweet, sensitive, and playful. It may take her a little time to feel safe with new people, but once trust is built, she becomes very affectionate and energetic. Training & Support Cordelia tends to be shy in unfamiliar situations, especially when meeting new people. Giving her time, space, and gentle encouragement allows her confidence to grow naturally. Cordelia would benefit greatly from continued training focused on managing arousal levels, impulse control, and polite interaction skills. Helping her slow down, settle herself, and redirect her energy appropriately will be key to her success. Ideal Home Cordelia would thrive in a quiet, loving household that understands she may need a slow and gentle transition. She enjoys going for walks and would appreciate a home that includes her in daily routine. She has done well around other dogs, though her experience with cats and children is currently unknown. With consistency, patience, and plenty of love, Cordelia’s true personality will continue to shine, making her a deeply loyal and rewarding companion for the family lucky enough to call her their own. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ready to Apply? Story
Are you looking for a snuggly senior seeking his retirement home? Look no further, Oliver may be the boy for you.Oliver and his friend Lupin came into our care when their previous guardians could no longer care for them. In an ideal world, they would find a furever home together, however, we have made the difficult decision to unbond them if it means they can each find their happily ever after.Oliver is a 9-year-old Pitty with the heart of a teddy bear. He is incredibly sweet, people-oriented, affectionate, and always happy to soak up some attention. Oliver has some mobility challenges, including arthritis and early hip dysplasia, so he'll need an adopter who understands the importance of slow, relaxed walks. His ideal home would include direct outdoor access with minimal stairs. Oliver is on a special prescription diet to help clear up some dermatitis and will need to be on ongoing pain management and supplements to keep his joints healthy. Oliver loves adventuring in the neighbourhood, long snuggles on the couch and your undivided attention.Oliver is currently enjoying his time in a foster home while he awaits his perfect match. If you would like to open your heart and home to a special senior, please submit an application online and we will organize a meet and greet once approved.
