Story
I am a long-term dog resident here at the Champaign County Humane Society! What does that mean? It means I have been available for adoption for over 90 days and am more than ready to find my forever home! In fact, the shelter is waiving my adoption fee for any approved applicant. Please stop by the shelter during open hours to visit with me! Meet Cody, the 2-year-old, neutered male Pitbull Terrier mix who is looking for a forever home at CCHS! This pooch is like a live wire, bursting with energy and ready for action! He's a big fan of playing with toys and making new human friends (especially the ones who carry treats). Cody likes to keep his prized possessions safe and sound, so he prefers to be the only dog in the house. But don't worry, he's got enough love to go around! Cody would thrive in an active household with plenty of outdoor time and room to play. Whether you need a jogging buddy or a BFF always wagging his tail, Cody is the pup for you! Come meet him at CCHS and let the fun begin! Cody is a STAFF FAVORITE pet! Here's what adoption staff member, Meredith has to say about him: Cody is our shelter's longest resident, having arrived in July 2023. Cody is the kind of fearless, happy dog that doesn't seem to mind being in a shelter. He is excited every day when his friends come to greet him. Cody doesn't know how to feel anything but joyful! He loves to play and enjoys games by himself and with friends. As long as he has food to eat, toys to play with, and people to take him for walks, give him treats, and tell him what a handsome lad he is, Cody feels like a king. Imagine how happy he would be if he had a home of his own! If Cody had people and a place all his own, he'd be over the moon! Come meet our happy boy, who will be especially happy to see you!

Introducing the stunning Raven, a little lady who had a bumpy start in life but now she's looking for a new home sweet home! Her first year was spent locked up in a kennel, but luckily, she found a home that promised her a better life. With her high energy levels, Raven's a real firecracker, but her previous owner wasn't quite ready for her rambunctious antics. Raven needs a patient family that can teach her some manners and help her burn off all that energy! She's not too keen on other pups, so she's looking for a home where she can be the star of the show. This girl loves to soak up all your love and cuddles. So, if you're looking for a furry friend to light up your life, please swing by the shelter to meet Raven! Raven is a STAFF FAVORITE pet! Here's what animal care staff member, Roe, has to say about her: Raven is one of my best buds! This is her second time with us through no fault of her own, and she made the move to the new building with us last year so we've all gotten the opportunity to get to know her very well. She's enthusiastic about doing anything for treats, and very smart about getting them. She loves neck rubs and will happily sit next to you and people watch while you pet her. Raven is very playful and silly, loves to play fetch outside and wiggle around in the grass on her back. Snow is also one of her favorite things-we have a hard time convincing her to come back inside, she'd rather just jump around and eat the snow! She'd love to be your only pet and get ALL your love, so if you have room in your life for a little princess, come and meet Raven!!

He is a 4-and-a-half-month-old American Pitbull terrier with a heart of gold! Jersey was relinquished along with his littermates in December of 2023. During his initial veterinary exam, it was discovered that Jersey had a heart murmur. We took him to the UI Small Animal Clinic for a Cardiology consult, where he was diagnosed with pulmonic stenosis. The recommended treatment was a surgical procedure called a Balloon Valvuloplasty. Because this would give Jersey the best chance for a long and healthy life, we decided to proceed with the surgery. Post-op, Jersey is happy, healthy, and exuberant! During his time with us, Jersey has been in foster care, receiving plenty of attention, socialization, and training. Because of Jersey's diagnosis, he will require another follow-up cardiology appointment post-adoption. Jersey's adopters should be prepared to stay on top of his health and follow the advice of his veterinarians to ensure he has the best quality of life. Because of his medical needs, Jersey's adoption fee will be waived. (Jersey cannot be neutered until after his Cardiology follow-up appointment, but we don't want to delay his adoption. His adopter will be required to bring him back for the neuter procedure when the time is right.) If you are interested in adopting this special boy, please give us a call at 217-344-7297!

Bessie was relinquished to CCHS in December of 2023. Sadly, during her owner's separation she had been left behind in a bathroom without food or water. Upon arrival, Bessie was severely underweight, at less than 25 lbs, and had uncomfortable pressure sores in multiple areas along her body. With the care and support of our staff and her foster provider, Bessie made a remarkable recovery and has become a cherished member of our CCHS family. During her visits for check-ups, Bessie enjoys spending time with our medical team in the lab and greets everyone who stops by to say hello to her enthusiastically. Bessie's favorite toy is a stuffed armadillo that she proudly shows off to her friends. She is friendly to everyone she meets and exemplifies the resilience of shelter dogs. Bessie loves lounging in her cozy bed, solving food puzzles, and, of course, receiving affection and praise from her human companions. After reaching a healthy weight and undergoing essential dental care, Bessie is now ready for adoption. We hope to find a loving home for this special dog where she can receive the unconditional love she deserves. If you are interested in adopting Bessie, please fill out an online application at the link below. Meet Maisy, the one-year-old Labrador Retriever and Pit Bull Terrier combo looking for a forever home at CCHS. This cutie pie landed in our care due to unforeseen circumstances but is all set to shower love on her new family. Maisy is a total sweetheart, and adores kids of all ages. While she is not the best about making friends with other dogs, and would prefer to be the only dog in the home, her opinion on cats remains a mystery. She's very much up for endless games of fetch and leisurely strolls. Picture winding down the day with Maisy by your side, ready for a cozy snuggle on the sofa. If Maisy has already stolen your heart, swing by for a meet and greet session!
