Story
Buttercup's smile lights up every room she is in. She is an eight-and-a-half-year-old sweetheart who brightens up when she gets to be outside hanging out with people. Her amber colored eyes are even prettier in person. She has this gentleness about her that makes time with her so enjoyable. Going for walks and snuggling are her two favorite things to do. Squeaky toys and tennis balls are two of her favorite toys. Once Buttercup knows you, she is so sweet, friendly, and playful. She likes to run and frolic and play around but then she likes to cuddle close. It's so nice to have a pup who wants to exercise but then can dial it down when it's time to relax. Buttercup has lived in a home with a feline friend before and she has done so well! She also had a very positive, happy reaction to them at the shelter! She asks to be the only puppy in her home. We've not seen her around kiddos but could see her being very loving if they were respectful and around 8ish and older. Sometimes she can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but this girl acclimates so quickly! It's a quick little get-to-know-you session and then she is wiggling and smiling all over the place! She's spayed so the next step is for you to come and meet her.

Story
For a special dog like our Pablo, we are looking for a special owner! This little gentleman weighs around 29-pounds, is neutered and he makes us all smile every single day. He lived in a foster home for a few months while he was recovering from having all of his teeth extracted. Pablo has dentinogenesis imperfecta; which is a congenital condition due to a mutation where the dentin does not form properly. So, his little tongue hangs out but it doesn't stop him from loving tasty treats! He also is deaf but we don't see that as a handicap, per se, we see it as something that makes him special and it sure doesn't dull his spirits. Here is a note from his foster mom: "Pablo is deaf and has no teeth! Having no teeth doesn’t stop him from wanting to put EVERYTHING in his mouth. If it is edible, he will try to eat it like a young lil' puppy! He is still working on potty-training, but will hold it when he is kenneled. He does have some sort of neurological problem where he bobbles his head quite often. He does understand some hand signals and would thrive in a home with routine. He is VERY food-motivated and seems to get along with just about everyone. He is a couch potato and enjoys snuggling on your lap. He believes he is a lap dog! Pablo does great on a leash, but prefers short walks. He enjoys playing with other dogs and cats for a short period of time. Because he cannot hear, he doesn’t understand corrections from other dogs. He would do best in a home with another laidback dog and a laid back human. Pablo needs someone that would be able to work with him and understand he’s not your “typical” dog." -Pablo's foster mom. Our mood instantly improves when we are with Pablo. We hope you see all that we see in him. Stop by MHS if you'd like to adopt Pablo! He is waiting to meet his forever family...

Spud is losing hope. She's not had potential adopters come to meet her. She's been waiting and waiting. She is declining noticeably, despite our staff and volunteers making her a priority each and every day💔 We know that Spud has had past trauma. This makes her slower to trust new people; which we fully understand. However, Spud has learned to trust us which makes her even more incredible for overcoming her fear of people she doesn't yet know. She just needs a chance. If you can visit her a few times, you will see a dog who is loyal, loving, hilariously funny, spunky, playful and lazy. We so want to be able to give her the chance to find her family. We know her specific home may be harder to find but we are hopeful for Spud that it is out there somewhere. We are hopeful that someone may be willing to put time into Spud so she can show them what we all see, know and love about her💗 We, MHS staff and volunteers, know how good Spud is. She is truly a relational dog and forms bonds with each of us that are so special. In the home, she is excellent. She is house-trained, doesn't need to be crated, is not destructive, is calm and makes her people her priority. We're looking for a home for her that is on the quiet side without a ton of visitors💕 She is perfectly-sized at 40 pounds. Spud is about 3½ years old and is spayed. Spud is available to be fostered or fostered-to-adopted💗 She will be most comfortable being the only furbaby and asks for everyone in the home to be 18 years or older. To foster or foster-to-adopt Spud, fill out the application found here: https://michianapets.org/get-involved/foster 💗🥔🐾 Please give Spud a chance.

Hey! Hi everyone! I'm Roe and I am super excited to meet you! I am a HUGE LOVEBUG! I'm friendly, friendly, friendly and I love saying hello! Not only am I social with adults, but I have lived with kiddos before who were about 6ish and older and I loved them, too! I am gentle and SO loving towards them. In my previous home, I did awesome at being house-trained. I also was not destructive when left alone and I was a good boy in my crate. I loved to sleep with people if allowed and I really love car rides. I know how to sit, lay down and shake. The nice humans here at MHS are teaching me how to walk politely on a leash. I'm a solid pup so gentle leash-walking manners are important, ya know?! Let's talk about other furry friends...my preference would be to have it just be me in the home. I'm hoping that there is a home out there with fun kiddos (and/or fun adults, too!) who need me as a furbrother and I can be their best friend. Snuggling and running are a couple things that make me happy. I am about four years old and I'm neutered. Love, good boy Roe.

Story
12-year-old Bailey is even sweeter than you can imagine. She is everything awesome and amazing that you would expect a senior dog to be. Bailey is loving, gentle, respectful, calm and affectionate. In her previous home, she did great being house-trained, crate-trained, was not destructive when left alone and has also loved her time with respectful children! She sits like a perfect lady and takes treats so respectfully. When Bailey hung out with kitties at the shelter, she was kind of interested but lost interest quickly and redirected for love and pets instead! She could do well with kitties given a proper intro! As far as dogs go, any dog in the home should be about her energy level; which is easy-going and content to chill. She isn't reactive towards other dogs, almost just ignores them! She has lived with a dog before and prefers a relaxed relationship vs. crazy, hyper puppy play. Bailey loves going for walks, car rides, snuggling and running. Tennis balls, squeaky toys and stuffed animals are her favorite things to play with. She is spayed and is about 60 pounds. We are absolutely in love with her and cannot say enough good things about her. If you need a beautiful senior family dog, come met Bailey girl...

Benji is the most perfect good boy and we have absolutely no idea how he hasn't found his family. He is a staff and volunteer favorite and we are consistently more and more impressed with his A+ manners and totally lovable personality. He is a "move-in" ready pup! He has one of the cleanest kennels, and he is so smart⭐🥰 He knows how to sit, lay down, come, stay, walk gently on a leash, and he takes treats so respectfully. And he is so willing to learn and please🤍 His interactions with other playful, friendly dogs have been very positive! Kiddos should be about teenagers and older. He asks for no kitty friends. Benji is playful and silly but also will lay down calmly and be content to just chill. He is a total cream puff and we love him so much🤍 He is a little over four years old and is neutered🤎🤍🤎 Please call us at 219-872-4499 to set up your time to meet Benji boy!
