Story
Look at the difference in all of her photos...Nala came into MHS at 39-pounds. She has since gained 20-pounds and is at a wonderful, healthy weight. Her skin has improved and has turned into a beautiful, soft coat. But, the one thing that has not changed in Nala since she arrived is how loving she is. From her initial intake to present day, Nala has wanted love; to show love, to be loved. Her attitude and personality were never anything less than exuberantly joyful. She trusted us immediately and has shown everyone how special and deserving of a family she is. Her ideal family would be one where she can join them for daily walks. She would also love to play fetch with tennis balls because that makes her so happy! She is the best fetcher ever! She also loves sniffing through snufflemats. Nala is a treat-motivated gal! Oh, and another amazing thing about her is that she takes treats so gently. In her previous home, she has lived with kiddos about 10ish and up. She'd love to be the only furbaby in her new home and redirects very nicely when she sees other pups out and about. She'll also redirect for a tennis ball or squeaky toy! She also did great in her crate in her previous home. We cannot say enough good things about her. Nala is about six years old and is spayed.

Story
One of the many wonderful things about Sasha is how she matches the energy of whoever she is with. If we are playing, Sasha is playing. If we are calm, Sasha is calm. If Sasha is hanging with other shelter dogs and they want to play, she wants to play. If they prefer sniffing, she will go her own way to sniff, too. If it is time for training and enrichment, Sasha is all in for the entire session. She is the most people-oriented dog and thrives on relationships. And speaking of relationships, her interactions with other friendly shelter dogs have been quite positive! Depending on the resident dog, she may do great with a fursibling! In her previous home, she did wonderful at being house-trained and was most content to stay in a bedroom while she was hanging by herself. She's a great car rider, too! Sasha is a perfect balance of playful, social, but also a little shy. She is a very relational girl when it comes to getting to know new people. A slow intro with yummy treats has been the way to her heart. Teenagers and older in the home would be best! She is a younger gal, a little less than three years old and is about 50-pounds. Come meet this lovebug.

Story
Just one look at this guy and you can't help but wonder why he was given the name Chicken? We do not have a clue. He is a senior guy looking for a home to spend out the later years of his life with all the comforts that a loving home will provide. Chicken still has a good amount of energy, but at the end of the day, he would simply prefer to curl up in your favorite chair, if you will let him, or a plush dog bed. He would do best with older children and a quieter lifestyle since that is what he had in his prior home. Come meet this guy and check out his big soulful eyes. Story
"Much like we don't know why Stonehenge exists, the world is left wondering why Diamond is still at MHS. Let's be real, MHS has moved several pitties in the past 11 months, and few of those were dogs that I expected would be really challenging to place. So, what's the deal with an awesome dog like Diamond? Is she too affectionate?...how is that even possible?" -MHS Volunteer Tate. We fully agree with Tate...how in the world is Diamond still at MHS? How has she not found a family? In about one month, on June 2nd, Diamond will have been at the shelter for one year. Diamond's ideal adopter would be someone who likes to snuggle close to their dog. She likes to sit right next to you and ask for belly rubs once she knows you. She's met kiddos around 8-years-old and she had full-body wiggles when she saw them! She's done best interacting with equally playful and friendly male dogs. Diamond would prefer no kitties. So, she's quite versatile! She could be adopted into a home with or without kiddos as well as with or without dog friends (depending on the resident pup!) Consider adopting Diamond. Please call 219-872-4499 to make an appointment or just stop on by! If you cannot adopt Diamond, you can still help her. Did you know that? Tag any friends who are looking for a dog. Share this post. Call and schedule a FetchSomeFun to get her out of the shelter. Take pics during your field trip. Some dogs have found their adopters that way! Let's get her adopted so that she can enjoy her summer at home! This girl is long overdue and is so deserving Diamond is about six years old and is spayed.

Story
Hank is the epitome of a good boy, and has the best manners! He knows how to sit, lay down, stay, come, and is learning how to shake paws! He loves snuggling and has no idea that he is a bigger boy to be a lap dog! He will lay politely right next to you, if asked! Otherwise, he'll be as close as allowed because he is such a love bug. Hank is one of the most people-oriented dogs you will meet. On his field trips, he wants to say hello to each and every person he meets! Including respectful kiddos! As far as other furry friends go, Hank does well when he sees dogs out in public! He has adorable play bows and interacts nicely. In the home, though, he asked us to relay that he would prefer it to be just him! He has tested positive for Lyme disease, so, it is very important for whoever adopts him to continue tick prevention. He is about two and a half years old and is neutered.

Story
Look at my smile! It should tell you how interactive and friendly I am! I am one of those pups who is just a happy, happy good boy. I love people and have done great with other equally friendly dog friends. My name is Felix and I am so hopeful that we can adopt each other. I love to run and play. I also love to be close to you and receive back massages. I know how to sit like the well-mannered gentleman that I am, too. Let me see...my ideal day... I'd love to have a balance of fun activities but also some lazy leisure. Like I said, I love to run and be active! I'm so fast! So, maybe we could go for walkies or joggies together? If you are someone who likes to take your dog with you wherever you go, I'd fit that role perfectly because I'm so extroverted! I know how to sit and I take treats very politely. I'm not sure what this "personal space" is that the humans speak of. I mean, aren't we supposed to be near each other? Welp, I think so, so that is all that matters! I'm about three years old and I'm neutered. Love, Felix.
