Story
Jake is just a little over 2 years old. He weighs around 50 lbs. He loves to run and play in the snow. Even at 50# he wants to be a lap dog and wants all the attention. I feel he could be a great hunting dog with the proper training. He chases squirrels up trees and will sit below or try to climb it to get the squirrel. He chases rabbits. He has been to puppy classes at Petsmart but I wasn't consistent in his training. He needs a strong hand as he does pull when on the leash. I've had his DNA tested which gave me 12 different breeds. Pit bull, Stafford terrier, Labrador, golden retriever, Australian shepherd, miniature American shepherd, German shepherd, beagle, American bull dog, Cocker spaniel and chow chow. He loves people and the attention. He gets excited to see them. He's an indoor dog and prefers to be with you. He's crate trained and has never had an accident in the house as he'll lead you to the door..

Story
My name is Woofus and I am a brown brindle pit bull. I am a neutered male and I am 4 years old. I am at the shelter because I was found as a stray on 02/26/2024. I am potty trained. I am a high energy dog and I will need an owner with some prior pet owning experience. The shelter staff is not sure if I am used to being crated during the day, although I do well in my large kennel at the shelter. I do pull on my leash when being walked and need to work on my manners, so basic obedience training would be good for me. I do already know some basic commands like `sit` and `shake`! I would like a standard height fence to help keep me inside the yard, or lots and lots of walks on leash to help me burn off my energy. I can be good with men, women, and children over 10 years old. I can be good with other dogs and I cannot live with cats. All dogs are tested for heartworms and given flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.

Story
Titus is a 7 year old brindle pit, he’s been in the same home since he was 6 weeks old. He is a wonderful dog with a fantastic personality. He is a happy and loyal companion and loves to cuddle! He is fully housebroken, so no worries there. Titus has a hard time adjusting to new circumstances, he has anxiety when people come to the house to visit and he is curious and overly cautious if the visitors are young children. We have a very active household with people often coming and going so we would like to find Titus a more quiet home. If you want a fun loving, and loyal dog, and you have a quiet life without small children, Titus is the dog you want! He has so much love to give but would be best fit with a couple that has the time to work with him on being around children.

Story
- Happy boy who likes to interact but also loves doing his own thing and sniffing all the smells; will likely open up in a home environment once he's had time to decompress - Likes to say hi to everyone he meets and see if anyone is hiding treats anywhere! - Enjoys playing with toys and loves to have fun - Recently got to spend some time outside of the shelter with a human friend, who said he did great meeting new people and going in and out of pet-friendly stores; Dudley also did amazing in the car and on his leash! - Knows sit, shake, and down; will sit for treats without being asked- Loves to learn and has great focus, so would be a lot of fun to teach even more skills - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for him, so he'll be most comfortable in a mature home - Can struggle to interact appropriately with other dogs and may not be interested in having other dog friends; needs to be the only dog in his new home The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email ARL-Adoption@arl-iowa.org.---- Happy, handsome, playful pup who loves his daily routines - Some of his favorite things are Nylabone antlers, hard rubber bones, walks in nice weather, and naps on the couch - Always happy to see his people and has the best wiggle-butt dance - At bedtime, likes to do some quiet chewing on his toys before snuggling right up against his foster family all night - often under the covers; he's the best snuggler and a sweet, loving boy! - Still a pup with a fair amount of energy, and loves discovering new things to smell and see on walks - Takes his job as the personal household paper shredder very seriously, so adopters will need to keep paper, cardboard or similar objects out of reach or monitor this guy when he's around them - Has been fully housetrained and crate-trained in his foster home; not the biggest fan of his crate but does OK - just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new schedule - Still learning about the world and sometimes needs reassurance in unfamiliar surroundings; initially wasn't a fan of car rides but his foster family said is beginning to enjoy them now and understand that they can take him to fun places! - While he enjoys being around kids, their quick movements and sudden loud noises can stress him out, so he'll do best in a home where any kids are older and more mature- Can become overly excited at times and forget his mouth manners when his world gets busy; his foster family said calm environments are ideal for him, and having him sit for treats is a great way to redirect him when he does get overstimulated - he's smart, eager to please and a quick learner, so engaging his brain is great! - Arrived with a previous injury to his leg and had FHO surgery at the ARL; has healed well and will even do some hilarious zoomies now but may still need to be watched for fatigue in that leg and may develop arthritis in the future (more info at ARL) - Really great boy whose personality shines when he feels safe and secure; will be a wonderful friend for a lucky family! The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed.
