Story
Let me introduce myself....I'm Duncan, a playful and energetic 80 lb bundle of energy and enthusiasm. Playtime is my absolute favorite, and I'm always ready for a game of fetch or a romp in the yard. I'll bring boundless joy and laughter to your home. 🐾 Dog-Friendly: I adore making new doggy friends! I'm known for being friendly and sociable with most dogs. If you already have a doggy companion, I'd be thrilled to join your pack but a meet and greet is always encouraged if you have another doggo in the family, 🚫 Not a Fan of Cats: I have to admit, I'm not a fan of cats. So, a cat-free household is a must for me. I want to ensure everyone in the house feels safe and comfortable. ❤️ Heartworm Positive but on the Mend: Yes, I am heartworm positive, but I'm undergoing treatment, and I'm well on my way to recovery. My foster family says I'm a real trooper, and I can't wait to be fully healthy again. 🧸 Toy Enthusiast: Toys are my passion! Whether it's squeaky toys, balls, or plushies, I love them all. You'll often find me carrying my favorite toy around, ready to play. 🏡 Ideal Home: I'm looking for an active and loving home where I can be the center of attention. If you enjoy an active lifestyle and are ready for a playful companion, we might be a perfect match! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Dog: I'm great with people of all ages, so families are welcome to consider me as their loyal and fun-loving companion. 🏥 Ongoing Treatment: Please note that my heartworm treatment will continue even after adoption, so you'll need to work closely with my veterinarian to ensure my complete recovery. If you're ready to welcome a big-hearted, toy-loving, and playful dog into your home and can provide me with the love and care I need, let's meet! I can't wait to bring joy and happiness to your family. If interested, please call the shelter at 231-861-5395 and leave a message to be placed on this dog's adoption list. No obligation, but it reserves your place in line on the list. The shelter will contact individuals as they appear on the list. Ask about adoption transportation assistance if you do not live in the local area. The adoption fee is $95 and you receive certificates for $50 towards spay/neuter and $10 towards rabies vaccine if not already done. All dogs are heartworm tested, receive a DHLPP, flea and tick treatment, a bordetella vaccination and are dewormed.

Story
Max is an exceptionally friendly dog with a heart of gold. Despite his young age, he exhibits a gentle and affectionate nature towards everyone he meets. He thrives on human companionship and loves nothing more than cuddling up with his favorite humans. Max has an innate sense of loyalty and is eager to please, making him a joy to have around. Activity Level: Max has a moderate activity level and enjoys both outdoor adventures and indoor relaxation. He would be a great companion for walks, hikes, and playtime in the yard. However, he's also content to curl up on the couch with his family for some quality downtime. Training: Max is a smart pup who is eager to learn and please his humans. While he may not have received formal training in the past, he is responsive and shows great potential for obedience training. With positive reinforcement and consistency, Max is sure to excel in basic commands and even some fun tricks. Ideal Home: Max would thrive in a loving and active household that can provide him with the attention and companionship he craves. A family with children or other pets would be ideal, as Max enjoys the company of both. A fenced yard would allow him to safely explore and play, but he would also do well in an apartment or urban environment with regular walks and exercise opportunities. Max is an adorable and affectionate pup with a heartwarming personality. His friendly demeanor and loving nature make him an ideal companion for individuals or families looking to add a furry friend to their lives. With his charming personality and eagerness to please, Max is sure to bring joy and laughter to his forever home. Story
Ollie is a 2 yr old snuggle bug. He finds himself looking for a new home as his current dog sibling has decided he doesn't want to share his humans attention. Ollie is just a lover looking for a family who wants to shower him with affection. He would be happy to have all the love to himself but would consider sharing with the right dog or cat sibling. Sharing attention with some kids tho= that would be amazing. As much as Ollie loves to snuggle, he also loves to play and would be over the moon if he found a family who would help him find the perfect play/sleep balance. Please reach out if you are interested in learning more about Ollie!

Story
"The moment everyone has been waiting for Phoenix is ready for a forever home. A little history behind Phoenix- she was one of the strays that were dumped out in Bitely that Mary Humphrey trapped. We gave her this name because we just knew she would rise from the ashes of her old life and become this beautiful dog. She is approx 6yrs old 55pounds. When she first came in she was very scared. Anytime staff came into the room she would shake in the corner and growl if you attempted to put a leash on her. We’re assuming whoever her previous humans were they most likely used her for breeding and she possibly treated unfairly. With a little time and patience Phoenix has risen and as confident as ever! She is a completely different dog. She now greets staff at her kennel and with proper introductions with new people she will walk up to you and lick your face! She seems like she wants to play with other dogs, and cats are unknown at this time. Due to her past it’s best if children in the home were older!" This is from Officer Carpentier. The adoption fee for dogs is $90. This fee includes spay/neuter, deworming, heartworm test, rabies & DHLPP shots, flea & tick treatment and license (for Newaygo County residents). Story
Meet George Theo Lincoln (he's had many names in his lifetime-we think it makes him sound distinguished ). Sadly, George was returned to us. His family that adopted him a few years ago said that they couldn't take his destructive behavior in the home anymore. They said he struggled with separation anxiety and would be sometimes destructive to furniture in the home, but then he started angry peeing in the home. And heartbreakingly, this is the second time George was returned to us. The first time he was returned because they said he didn't like the farm animals at the first home. George is a happy boy here and loves people and to snuggle. In the past, Kenzie use to take George to her GVSU pre-vet meetings and he LOVED the car travel and visiting with all the students on campus. He ran around the room greeting everyone! His previous owners said they didn't have any issues with him with people or kids. When George was with us, he was very friendly with other dogs. But his previous family said he is not friendly with dogs anymore. We are working on this with him, but at the time, we think he would do best in a home without other pets. A little bit more about George as we know him: He is so kind and sweet, and seems to be great for everyone. We believe he is about 8.5 years old. At his vet check, he was so friendly with Dr. Andrea and was giving kisses and wanted belly rubs! We updated his overdue vaccines and drew some blood to do a senior bloodwork check, which he was a great patient for. His bloodwork was all normal! His previous owners said he has a history of seizures, but only had one in the past year and was not on any medication for seizures. For now, since his bloodwork returned normal, we are going to continue to monitor. But since we've had George, we have not seen any seizures. He does seem to have a sensitive stomach, but we have now found a food he does well on, called Wellness Complete Health Adult Whitefish and Sweet Potato dry dog food . If we find him a foster home, we will continue to provide that specific food for him. We feel for George as he is probably so confused jumping from home to home and we hope we can find him a foster home or a fur-ever home. He's been in a home for so long and would love to get back in one and out of the kennel. If you would be interested in helping George, you can find the foster form and adoption form in the links below. If you cannot help by fostering or adopting, but you still would like to help George, the link to our Chewy list is below. https://www.headinhomerescue.org/adoptionapplication.html https://www.headinhomerescue.org/fosterapplication.html https://www.chewy.com/g/headin-home-pet-rescue_b71197585 An approved adoption application is required. The $200 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; fecal testing, and heartworm and tick disease testing. Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.May 5, 2024, 1:24 pm
