Story
Blue is a 13 year old brindle pit mix with one of the sweetest souls you’ll ever meet. He came to Best Pals after his family fell into homelessness and was unable to keep him in the hotel where they were staying. With love and heartbreak, his mom surrendered him so her children would have a safe place to sleep. Despite everything, Blue acts like a dog half his age. He loves car rides, long walks, tug of war and a good bone to chew on. He’s also a champion cuddle buddy and happiest when he’s relaxing near his person. Blue lived peacefully with children and doesn’t seem to mind cats. He may resource guard food or toys at times, so he’d do best as the only dog in a calm, loving home. Blue received full vaccines and a senior blood panel upon arrival, which revealed he has Lyme disease. He is currently on a 30 day treatment and responding well. He’ll just need someone willing to keep up with his routine care as he continues to feel better. Blue is gentle, loyal and endlessly loving. He deserves a soft landing and a home where he can enjoy his golden years in comfort and safety. If you’re looking for a grateful, affectionate companion, Blue is ready to meet you.

Story
Meet Razzle Dazzle! We believe this cutie is about 2 years old. He is about 70 pounds. He is such a sweet boy and is a staff favorite here at Mapleview and the rescue! Everyone loves to be greeted by him in the morning and say goodbye to him when they leave for the day.   Razzle loves all people! He has done well with other large dogs he has met. We have not yet introduced him to small dogs. He does need a cat free home. He likes to play and has a lot of energy! Razz needs some training with basic obedience and leash training (he has quite a prey drive) but he is eager to please and smart, so just needs someone with time to commit to him.   We have discovered that Razzle has some allergies which is not surprising with his beautiful white coat and his breed. He came to us with some very sore and torn up paw pads and wounds on his legs. He does better with apoquel, which is an expensive allergy medication. We are currently trying a hypoallergenic prescription diet with him to see how it manages his allergies as a more cost effective option longterm. But, he is worth it! He is such a good boy and deserves to be comfortable!   An approved adoption application is required. The $250 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; heartworm and tick disease testing; fecal w/ giardia testing, monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention . Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.June 25, 2025, 4:08 pm

Story
This is frost! She’s 6 years old. Her birthday is November 12th, 2019. She’s been through so much with me. Many living situations all leading up to Venice beach. She grew up going to the dog park, being around other dogs in home, etc. a few years back one of my roommates husky’s attacked her. Ever since then she has not done well with animals. She has certain triggers that can cause issues with other animals such as loud noises, food/ toys, screaming or yelling, etc. basically anything that might make her anxious. She’s always been great with humans. Sometimes she can be weary of strangers but she’s never not warmed up to someone. She loves her toys. It’s very rare she actually chews them! lol. She likes to hold them and always gifts you one when you get home. She’s always down for a walk BUT her favorite activity by far is relaxing with her human. She’s the biggest cuddle-er.

Story
Maizey Female German Shepherd/Pitbull Mix 1 year old Meet Maizey, the sweetest and most loving girl! This playful, affectionate pup is full of personality and joy, and she's ready to find a family of her very own. She would thrive in a fenced-in yard where she can run her heart out and play to her heart's content. Fetch is her absolute favorite game - she could play all day long if you let her! She also enjoys chewing on her nylabone, splashing around in water, and even chasing the sprayer hose. Whether she's zooming around outside, playing with other dogs, or hopping in the car for an adventures, she's always up for fun! At home, Maizey is a big cuddler who just wants to be close to her people - touching you, leaning on you, or snuggling right up beside you. She's guaranteed to make you laugh with her silly antics, like chasing her tail in endless circles or being goofy with her toys. Because she can get a little enthusiastic with her affection, she'd do best in a home without small children, just to make sure she doesn't accidentally knock them over. She also has some herding breed in her and tends to try and herd them. She bonds deeply with her people and would love a family where someone is home more often. While she may get a little sad when left alone, she's never destructive or naughty - just a loyal pup missing her favorite humans. Smart, inquisitive, and eager to please, Maizey listens so well and has so much love to give. She's not just a dog - she's a best friend, a sidekick, and a source of endless joy. Maizey was originally adopted from us as a puppy. She was returned after a year in her home because the family felt she wasn't a great fit for them. Because of this and to ensure Maizey gets the right fit, her new home needs a fenced-in yard, older children and someone who can handle a high-energy dog. She will need someone wiling to exercise her, play with her, take her to doggy daycare - whatever needs to be done to get her energy out. If she doesn't have this release, she can become frustrated. Maizey is spayed and microchipped. She will be up to date on vaccines and a hw test before being adopted. If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting Maizey, fill out an online application at figandfriendspetrescue.org/adopt.
