Story
Blaze may look like a tiny pit bull puppy, but don’t let those baby-face features fool you—this boy is a full-grown adult, weighing in at just 17 pounds. He’s a compact, gentle, sensitive soul who spent his entire life in one home before coming to us with 10 other dogs from the same household. The sudden transition to shelter life has been overwhelming for him, and he’s still learning how to navigate this big, new world. Blaze is a sweet, soft, emotional little guy. In the kennel, he struggles with stress and can shut down, but once he’s out with someone he trusts, he starts to shine. During his one-on-one sessions, he warms up quickly—leaning in for comfort, taking treats, and relaxing right into your arms. He wants so badly to be brave; he just needs someone patient enough to guide him. Blaze does wonderfully with other dogs and would greatly benefit from living with a confident, social, happy adult dog who can help show him the ropes. He looks to other dogs for reassurance, and he blossoms when he has a buddy to follow. A calm, patient home A friendly dog companion to build his confidence Someone who understands that transitioning from his first and only home into the shelter has been hard on him Kind handling, consistency, and time to feel safe Blaze isn’t just cute—he’s resilient. Beneath the trembling and uncertainty is a dog who is trying so hard to be brave, who relaxes into gentle hands, and who wants nothing more than to feel secure again. With love, routine, and a steady dog friend by his side, he will absolutely thrive.

Story
Maxton came to BENCHS from the Mankato Animal Impound as an unclaimed City of Mankato stray, and he has quickly shown us what a bright, animated boy he is. Estimated to be about 3½ (nearly 4) years old and weighing just over 50 lbs, he’s the perfect mix of youthful energy and grown-up charm. This handsome guy is very smart — he already knows sit, shake, and high-five, and he’ll proudly show them off for a tasty treat. He’s incredibly food motivated, eager to learn, and would thrive with someone who enjoys continuing his training. Maxton is affectionate and expressive, often leaning in for attention or chatting with you in his vocal, goofy way. He’s a dog with personality and heart, and he’ll keep you entertained every day. He may be selective with other dogs, and we’re not sure how he feels about cats yet. We are recommending a home without very small children, simply because when he gets excited, he can take treats a bit rough — nothing a little polishing and consistency won’t help smooth out. If you’re looking for a smart, fun, loving companion who’s ready to learn and bond deeply with his person, Maxton might be your boy. Come meet him and let him show you his high-five!

Story
Navi is a stunning female pit bull mix who came to BENCHS as an unclaimed City of Mankato stray. From the moment she arrived, her gentle heart and affectionate nature have shined through. This sweet girl is searching for a home where she can be your one and only. Navi is reactive to other animals, so she’ll need a pet-free home — but she promises to fill that space with more than enough love all on her own. Because of her impressive strength, she’s also looking for a home without small children. Navi would thrive with a fenced-in yard where she can safely stretch her legs, explore, and soak up the sunshine. She’s friendly, people-oriented, and loves nothing more than being close to her humans. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who just wants a place to call home, Navi might be your girl. 💛 Come meet her and see why she has captured our hearts!

Story
This sweet guy may be a little shy at first, but give him some time—and maybe a few tasty treats—and you’ll see his gentle, goofy personality shine through. Obie was found as a stray, so he’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. But once he decides you’re one of the good ones? That’s it. You’re in. Forever. Obie is a very strong boy and will do best with an experienced handler who can help guide him as he continues learning. He’s currently working on taking treats nicely and basic commands, and the good news is—he’s very treat motivated and eager to learn. With consistency and positive reinforcement, he’s going to thrive. He loves quiet moments, soft voices, and people who let him move at his own pace. Obie has done well with other dogs through the fence, but he can sometimes have a hard time with other dominant male dogs. Because of this, he may be happiest as an only dog, where he can soak up all the attention and continue building confidence without competition. Obie would be happiest in a quieter home with someone who enjoys adventures but also appreciates a cozy night in. If you’re patient, kind, and ready to invest in a strong, smart dog who wants to learn and bond deeply, Obie just might be your perfect match. Ready to win this sweet boy’s heart?

Story
Welcome to the world of Zeenie. I recently came into rescue and as with most new dogs to rescue I shut down. I didn’t eat, I just laid in my bed. But I am young and adjusted quickly. In a couple of days I started playing with my foster mom's husky, a couple more days I finally decided I would eat my food, not just take a couple bites. Now that I am comfortable I play with her dogs and we run and run in our yard. My original owner let me sleep in her bed so that is where I am comfortable. My foster mom is trying to get me to sleep in a dog bed at night but I am not doing it. When she is gone I do go in a kennel and don’t mind it. Oh and I learned how to use the doggy door pretty quickly. Now I run in and out like it is a revolving door! There is so much to see outside but yet I want to be in the house near my humans. I know some commands like sit and off. We are working on others. Well for only a week in rescue I feel I am doing pretty good. I sure hope to find myself my own family real soon. Can’t wait to meet you!!Adoption fee $295 plus tax____Please Note: We ask that an application be filled out before coming to the shelter. If pre approved, a meeting with the animal will be set up.
