Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Daniela: Future Boss of the House! About Daniela Daniela is the perfect mix of small size, big heart, and a massive personality. She is charming, sassy, and full of pure wiggle-butt enthusiasm! Daniela is happy and safe in her foster home, but she would honestly prefer not to have to compete the resident dogs for attention anymore. Personality & Quirks Daniela's presence fills the entire room—and she will absolutely bully you into giving her the attention she deserves! She has an endless supply of love and antics to share, along with a relentless dedication to making sure you don't forget about her. The Wiggle-Butt Welcome: Expect a full-body wag every time you walk through the door, or really anytime Daniela hasn't seen you for longer than 10 seconds. Her enthusiasm for her humans is absolutely unmatched! Snack Time Focus: When it's snack time, Daniela gives her full attention to a good chew toy or a peanut butter Kong. The Sweet Snoozer: Once she has had enough activity and attention, she will snooze and snore anywhere that is cozy. She will gladly go into her kennel, as long as it is comfy and comes with a treat. Training & Home Manners Daniela has been working hard on her manners in her foster home. She thrives on routine, positive reinforcement, and structure (mostly to remind her that you actually own the house). Accidents in the house have never been an issue—Daniela is far too much of a Queen to violate that particular code. The Ideal Home Daniela would do wonderfully in a home that wants a dog with a big personality to be the absolute center of their world. She’s looking for a family that will continue to guide her with love, keep her active, and doesn't mind being affectionately bullied into on-demand playing and petting. Are you ready to welcome this sassy and hilariously demanding girl into your life?Click here to watch a video of Daniela.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 9, 2026, 10:37 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. My name is Miss Sammy. I was a sidekick for a truck driver since I was 6 weeks old. Then I could not easily get in the truck and my dad's new company said I could not ride with him any longer. The transition has been confusing to me after I made a long road trip from Ohio to MN where I met my foster family. I would bark at the door and outside. My foster mom thinks I was hoping my family would hear and find me. But I have lots of love in my heart and have opened it up to my foster family. I follow my foster Mom around like a Velcro dog. My favorite pastime is when the kids play with me. They squeak my toys and crinkle the paper inside. I get so excited when they do this. Sometimes I even bark at them to ask them to play. I have a white face but don't let that fool you. I still have bursts of energy. My foster kiddo discovered I fetch the ball one day. I love to bring it back. But when the foster dog jumped in front of me and grabbed the ball I got pretty upset. He is bigger than me so I feel like I have to let him know who is boss. It would not be a good idea to play fetch with another dog present. I growl at him through the baby gate when we eat our food so I food guard, as well. Otherwise, I am chill around him and we get along. I am 60-65lbs and I look so tiny. But I am pretty solid. I have not asked to jump on the couch, but I did whine a little to get on the bed. However, I am fine sleeping on my dog pillow next to my foster parents' bed. I fuss a little bit when put in the kennel, but then I calm down and nap. I do not pull on a leash. I do bark at other dogs. When I am riding in the car, I bark at anything that moves. My foster mom does not know if I am doing it out of anxiety from the move or if this is typical of me. But I am an all-around great dog. I am trained and my foster mom says I am easy to have around. If you have stairs in your home my foster mom wants you to know I am a little slow going up steps, but the vet did not find arthritis. He did say I need to lose 5lbs, otherwise, I am healthy. He said with my cute personality I will go fast. If you are looking for a pretrained smart, playful, but also calm companion I am the one for you. I will melt your heart with my soulful gaze, when I am trying to tell you something. And I am pretty vocal once I know you. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Buddy and looking for my forever home! I’m currently couch surfing with my foster mom and 2 foster fur siblings. I’m 11 years old but don’t let my age fool you. I’m good with being a couch potato but also good with running around all silly. I’ve been with my foster family for almost a month. At first she kenneled me and I did great in there. Now I have free range of the house. My foster mom works from home and I sleep in the dog bed in her office. When she leaves you can find me and my fur siblings sleeping on the couch or being apart of the neighborhood watch. I get along with both female and male dogs. I’ve been around a few other dogs besides my foster fur siblings and everything went well. I love to snuggle up in my dog bed or blankets near others. At night I sleep in the human bed. I can get up on the couch no issues but my foster mom’s bed is high so I use dog steps. I love to run and play outside and I recently started playing with dog toys. When someone comes to visit, I bark at first but then I get excited to meet new people. My foster mom has a fenced in yard so I can roam all over. I do love taking walks and walk very nice on a leash. I’ve never had an accident in the house while living with my foster family. Story
Meet Brooks (Brindle, 8 years old) & Dunn (White, 6 years old)🐾🐾 These two sweet old gentlemen have been with us for almost four months now, and they’ve completely stolen our hearts. Brooks (the brown one) and Dunn (the white one) came to us from down south, and while we don’t know much about their past, it’s very clear they are wonderful, gentle souls. They are very bonded and truly do best as a pair... Where one goes; the other isn’t far behind. Both boys are neutered and up to date on core vaccines. They are fantastic with children, get along great with other dogs, and are even pretty respectful of cats. They’re the kind of dogs that just fit in. Despite their age, they’ve adapted beautifully to changes and new routines. They’re happy to lounge, explore the yard, and enjoy the simple things in life. They stick close while off-leash, have hearty appetites, and yes... they’re delightfully chunky 😄. Brooks is the goofier of the two and is OBSESSED with Kongs and chew toys. Dunn is a bit more reserved and thoughtful, but just as loving in his own quiet way. If we didn’t already have a full house of dogs, we would keep these two in a heartbeat. Their need for a new home is absolutely no fault of their own — we simply don’t have the space to add two large dogs long-term. Brooks & Dunn are truly special, and they deserve a calm, loving home where they can spend their golden years together. They’re perfect just as they are. 💙 These pets are microchipped, spayed/neutered & up to date on vaccinations. The adoption fee is $500 for the bonded pair. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hey there, I'm Bruno! I'm a brindle Boxer-Terrier mix with a stunning coat and endless energy to match born in October 2025. Already neutered and ready to go, I'm an affectionate and playful pup who loves making new friends — I'm loyal, friendly, and always up for an adventure! Come meet me and let's see if we're a perfect match for each other! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Not good with cats,
Story
Roki is a 66 pound English Bulldog with an even bigger heart. He came to BENCHS after being abandoned at a boarding kennel alongside two other dogs. While we can't change his past, we're determined to help him find the loving family he has always deserved. If you're looking for a dog who believes personal space is optional, Roki may just be your perfect match. This affectionate boy absolutely loves people and has a charming habit of gently pawing at you when he wants your attention or when he thinks you should keep the belly rubs and ear scratches coming. His love language is touch, and he isn't shy about asking for more! Roki is highly food motivated, especially when peanut butter is involved. Whether you're teaching him new things or simply filling an enrichment toy, peanut butter is the quickest way to win his heart. As an English Bulldog, Roki is looking for a home with someone who understands the unique needs of his breed. Bulldogs are known for their loyal, laid back, and loving personalities, but their adorable squishy faces also come with important health considerations. Because of their shortened airways, Bulldogs can have difficulty breathing, especially in hot or humid weather or during strenuous exercise. They are prone to overheating and do best with moderate activity, plenty of opportunities to cool down, and owners who can recognize signs of respiratory distress. Like many Bulldogs, Roki may snore, snort, and make all sorts of lovable Bulldog noises. His future family should also be prepared to keep the wrinkles on his face clean and dry to help prevent skin irritation and infections, and to work closely with their veterinarian to keep him healthy throughout his life. Roki has already been through more than any dog should. Now he's ready for a family who will cherish him, spoil him with peanut butter treats, appreciate his endless affection, and love everything that makes an English Bulldog so wonderfully unique. If you're ready to welcome a loyal, goofy, cuddly best friend into your home, Roki can't wait to meet you.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Ace is about one year old, and while his story hasn’t been easy, it’s clear there is a really special dog underneath it all. Ace is a pit bull mix with a big heart and an even bigger brain. He’s incredibly smart and already knows several tricks, including sit, lay down, shake, knuckles, and high five. He loves toys of all kinds and truly enjoys being around other dogs, though he can get a little over the top with his excitement at times. At night, he happily sleeps in bed with his person, and when left alone, he does well both in a crate or loose in the home. Ace’s past has shaped him. Before coming into his most recent home, he spent much of his early life confined to a basement, missing out on critical socialization and exposure to the world. Since then, he has experienced instability, including multiple moves and time in environments that were not always calm or predictable. Because of this, Ace can be shy and sensitive, especially to loud voices or sudden changes. If startled, he may bark or run toward people, but he has never bitten and has shown no signs of aggression. In new environments, Ace may shut down at first. He tends to move slowly, may freeze or pancake when overwhelmed, and looks for safe, enclosed spaces when he’s unsure. But if you give him time, something really beautiful starts to happen. With gentle reassurance, soft voices, and patience, Ace begins to come forward. He seeks out connection, offers small moments of affection, and has already shown that he can settle and find comfort near his person. He responds incredibly well to calm handling and positive reinforcement, and he is tolerant of touch all over his body, even when he’s feeling unsure. These are really promising signs for a dog who simply hasn’t been given the chance to learn what the world is supposed to feel like. Ace would do best in a quiet home with a patient and understanding owner who can go slow and let him build confidence at his own pace. A home without a lot of chaos would help him feel safe. Another well matched dog could be a great outlet for him, given how much he enjoys canine companionship. While he has been around children before, a home with older, respectful kids, or no kids, would likely be best given his sensitivity. Ace has now been neutered upon coming to BENCHS and will need continued routine veterinary care as he settles into his new life. At his core, Ace is not a problem dog. He is a dog who was never shown what safety and consistency feel like. And yet, he is trying. Every single day, he is trying. The small moments, walking forward, accepting touch, laying down beside someone, those are huge for him. He is looking for someone who will see those moments for what they are, and help him keep going.
