He has a calm, gentle presence and truly loves being near his people — whether that’s relaxing on the couch, following you around the house, or heading out for a car ride. Pudgy is affectionate, easygoing, and so sweet. He leans into pets, enjoys cuddles, and has the kind of loving personality that makes him an instant favorite. He’s doing great in a home setting and continues to show what a wonderful companion he’ll be. Pudgy Boots is going to make an amazing addition to a lucky family, and we can’t wait to see him find the forever home he deserves.  About Me: No seriously… talk to me and watch my whole butt get involved. I traveled all the way from Alabama to Minnesota after a pretty rough start in life, and now I’m ready for the good stuff — love, snacks, snuggles, and car rides (SHOTGUN ONLY, please). I’m a bulldog/boxer mix with an elite underbite and a big, squishy heart. I’m a mellow dude who absolutely adores human attention. Couch cuddles? Yes. Being near my people? Always. Going into the crate? Not my favorite but I still rock it. Car ride? ABSOLUTELY!! Cats are very interesting to me — I want to play and be friends, but sometimes I forget I’m bigger than they are, so I might need a little help learning my manners. I promise my intentions are pure. With his adorable underbite, gentle nature, and affectionate personality, Pudgy Boots is the kind of dog who quickly steals hearts. He’s ready for a home where he can soak up love, enjoy adventures, and keep those happy wiggles coming.     February 6, 2026, 3:21 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Darlene Mannino for more information about this pet.Poppy update!   My name is Poppy. I was returned after 6 years with my last home. I was not so friendly with my foster sisters when I got here. I finally got use to being around other dogs and am learning to be part of a pack. I'm gonna need a strong alpha parent to help me to continue to grow out of my shell. I've never been around other puppers. I'm potty trained and have never had an accident in the house. I like to eat by myself and I may take all day to eat my food. I'm a lovey dove and love to be loved on. I try to be bossy and need reminding that I don't have to be bossy. I will follow you around anywhere you go.   Her DNA test results: 66% Boxer 14% German Shepherd 14% Chow Chow 6% Labrador Retriever  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 11, 2025, 1:21 pm

Story
Meet Brooks (Brindle, 8 years old) & Dunn (White, 6 years old)🐾🐾 These two sweet old gentlemen have been with us for almost four months now, and they’ve completely stolen our hearts. Brooks (the brown one) and Dunn (the white one) came to us from down south, and while we don’t know much about their past, it’s very clear they are wonderful, gentle souls. They are very bonded and truly do best as a pair... Where one goes; the other isn’t far behind. Both boys are neutered and up to date on core vaccines. They are fantastic with children, get along great with other dogs, and are even pretty respectful of cats. They’re the kind of dogs that just fit in. Despite their age, they’ve adapted beautifully to changes and new routines. They’re happy to lounge, explore the yard, and enjoy the simple things in life. They stick close while off-leash, have hearty appetites, and yes... they’re delightfully chunky 😄. Brooks is the goofier of the two and is OBSESSED with Kongs and chew toys. Dunn is a bit more reserved and thoughtful, but just as loving in his own quiet way. If we didn’t already have a full house of dogs, we would keep these two in a heartbeat. Their need for a new home is absolutely no fault of their own — we simply don’t have the space to add two large dogs long-term. Brooks & Dunn are truly special, and they deserve a calm, loving home where they can spend their golden years together. They’re perfect just as they are. 💙 These pets are microchipped, spayed/neutered & up to date on vaccinations. The adoption fee is $500 for the bonded pair. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Rocco came to us from Up North where he had been living in a homeless encampment and somehow ended up in impound scheduled for euthanasia when one of our partners rescued him. He is the sweetest boxer/pug? mix you will ever want to meet. Born October 2023 he is a lover of all people he meets, but is best if his new home is cat-free. He has been around other dogs, rides perfectly in a vehicle and is simply a joy to know! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
How do you even begin to write about perfection? Miss Mary is exactly that. This sweet senior gal is perfect for so many families.Mary is pure happiness! Her tail has two speeds-slow wag or fast wag. She is truly happy to meet everyone-no one is a stranger to our Mary. Mary does great with other dogs. She`s lived in a few different environments and she`s definitely learned how to make the peace. Mary doesn`t feel the same way about cats. She does need a cat free home. A home full of humans-especially little kids would be her favorite.Mary may be on the older side but it doesn`t slow her down one bit. She`s the best toy destroyer in the house. She easily runs 5 miles with her foster dad. Mary`s vertical to grab a ball or frisbee can rival most NBA players. If you`ve been at dog rescue long enouigh, you recognize great dogs when you see them. Mary is just that-a great dog. She is happy, devoted, fun, outgoing, snuggly, sweet and is just waiting to be someone`s best friend. Is it you??Mary has been spayed, microchipped, and is up to date on her vaccinations. She has also tested negative for heartworm disease. Her adoption fee is $150.00 plus sales tax. Please submit an adoption application if you would like to add this girl to you family!

Story
Grandpa Meatball arrived at BENCHS with no owner, no history, and absolutely no respect for personal space. Where he came from is a mystery. He suffers from chronic dry eye, which remains crusty and frankly offensive no matter what treatments we attempt. We give him eye drops multiple times a day. We clean his eyes multiple times a day. We are medically attentive. And yet somehow, immediately after care, Grandpa Meatball re-crusts himself like it’s a lifestyle choice. It’s permanent. It’s his signature look. As a result, it’s important to remember that boundaries are something Grandpa Meatball cannot see clearly. Literally or emotionally. Despite this, he is somehow both cute and gross at the same time, a deeply confusing combination that he wields with confidence. In his downtime, Grandpa Meatball becomes intensely emotionally invested in suckling stuffed animals, dog beds, blankets, and anything soft enough to accept his affection. He approaches this activity with deep focus and zero shame. Any attempt at affection will be immediately escalated. He will seize the moment, latch on with alarming confidence, and remind you that boundaries are a modern invention he does not recognize and, frankly, cannot see. When he’s not causing problems, Grandpa Meatball enjoys splooting dramatically across the floor, proudly displaying his little toad butt like it’s a personality trait. It is impossible to look at him in this position and feel anything other than concern, affection, and mild confusion. Because of his… enthusiasm, Grandpa Meatball would do best in a very specific home. One with no kids, no other pets, and humans who understand that love, for Meatball, is loud, physical, unavoidable, and crusty. Despite everything, Grandpa Meatball is incredibly people-oriented, absurdly affectionate, and impossible not to laugh at. He’s weird. He’s gross. He’s cute. He’s deeply endearing. He is not for everyone—but for the right person, he is pure unfiltered joy. If you want a polite dog with manners, Grandpa Meatball is not your guy. If you want a senior feral icon with mystery trauma, crusty eyes despite aggressive medical care, emotional support blankets, sploots, and a toad butt… welcome home.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This sweet guy may be a little shy at first, but give him some time—and maybe a few tasty treats—and you’ll see his gentle, goofy personality shine through. Obie was found as a stray, so he’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. But once he decides you’re one of the good ones? That’s it. You’re in. Forever. Obie is a very strong boy and will do best with an experienced handler who can help guide him as he continues learning. He’s currently working on taking treats nicely and basic commands, and the good news is—he’s very treat motivated and eager to learn. With consistency and positive reinforcement, he’s going to thrive. He loves quiet moments, soft voices, and people who let him move at his own pace. Obie has done well with other dogs through the fence, but he can sometimes have a hard time with other dominant male dogs. Because of this, he may be happiest as an only dog, where he can soak up all the attention and continue building confidence without competition. Obie would be happiest in a quieter home with someone who enjoys adventures but also appreciates a cozy night in. If you’re patient, kind, and ready to invest in a strong, smart dog who wants to learn and bond deeply, Obie just might be your perfect match. Ready to win this sweet boy’s heart?

Story
Navi is a stunning female pit bull mix who came to BENCHS as an unclaimed City of Mankato stray. From the moment she arrived, her gentle heart and affectionate nature have shined through. This sweet girl is searching for a home where she can be your one and only. Navi is reactive to other animals, so she’ll need a pet-free home — but she promises to fill that space with more than enough love all on her own. Because of her impressive strength, she’s also looking for a home without small children. Navi would thrive with a fenced-in yard where she can safely stretch her legs, explore, and soak up the sunshine. She’s friendly, people-oriented, and loves nothing more than being close to her humans. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who just wants a place to call home, Navi might be your girl. 💛 Come meet her and see why she has captured our hearts!
