They came back as suspect histiocytomas, but because that type of mass typically occurs in young dogs, the histopathologist is suspicious of cutaneous Langerhan’s cell histiocytosis. Though these masses are typically benign, they may continue to grow, and some may grow faster than others. We have seen some growth and then shrink. The masses may need to be removed per vet recommendation if they show signs of infection. 5/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Grandpa Rico has gone from holding down the couch to lawn ornament status basking in the warmth of the sun! Rico may have a grumpy countenance, but he is one of the most agreeable and go-with-the-flow dogs we have had the pleasure of fostering. His allergies still require medicated baths every five days and yep, he does have more than usual amounts of dander…but it’s an easy fix with a vacuum and swiffer!   Rico is a good eater, keeps all four feet on the floor (except when snuggling on the couch or sleeping just as close as he can possibly can to you in bed at night.) He doesn’t snore, kennels beautifully or can be left to free roam, only wants a short walk on nice days, has never chewed on anything human related, rides quietly and calmly in any vehicle and rarely barks. Look at that adorable little tip of his tongue that escapes his mostly toothless gums.  Although Rico wants to be your only pet, he is not reactive when seeing other dogs on walks or while riding in the car. He really is such a very, very good boy!     1/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Rico Suave has been with us since Christmas and we LOVE him!  We are retired and mostly home and he is happy not being kenneled all day. Rico is just the easiest and sweetest old man and has excellent house manners and a quiet, loving, and gentle nature. Literally, all he needs is a comfy dog bed or the end of a couch to nap on…and someone willing to give him frequent medicated baths to help his skin.  Rico doesn’t play with toys or chew on bones but will be happy to take a walk on warmer days, go for rides in the car or cuddle up next to you. He is a champion napper…happiest when he is right next to you with his huge noggin resting on your lap 9/6/2022 Foster Feedback: Rico has been doing well this summer. He enjoys napping on the cement, going for short walks, listening to turkeys (they don't bother him), and playing 5 minutes of tug of war every week. It's a big regiment for a big fella in his retirement phase of life. Rico has been doing very very well on walks; not reacting to other dogs or other critters out on walks. He is still a very treat-motivated old man. Rico sure would like to lounge in his forever home very soon! 7/21/2022 Volunteer Feedback: Rico Suave is a precious old man who would love to be someone's best buddy. His talents include snacking, pondering the meaning of life, and making sure the couch isn't going anywhere. He likes to be close to or directly on his people while just hanging out, or patrolling the great outdoors and taking in all the local sniffs. He's one of those gentle giants who may look like a grump but is secretly a total softie who isn't afraid to show his love with kisses and snuggles. 2/9/2022: Rico is the perfect winter dog in my mind as he has no interest in long walks in the cold or the snow; he just wants to go out for business purposes only. He loves his walks in the warmer weather of course. Rather than a long cold, snowy walk, he would rather just have a tasty treat out of his kong and then snuggle up for a nap. Handsome man Rico hasn't had any new bumps since the last bumps in the fall disappeared, so that is great news! Rico recently attended a "VIP" dog event the rescue collaborated with Down Dog Studio and Rico got to spend half an hour getting about a million pets from strangers; he was an absolute ham. He is pouting and sad he didn't find his forever home but, he looks forward to you giving him the next million pets. Rico grows weary of his foster father coming home from volunteering at the shelter almost daily and smelling like other dogs while he sits in his kennel; it's just not right for an old pup in his retirement years! 8/27/21:  Rico has been with me for a couple of months now. Rico was returned to the rescue after about 7 years, so he is really thankful 4 Luv of Dog has been there twice to take him in. Rico has been a very easy dog to have in the home. He is a fantastic house guest, I am more than happy to let him spend a little time here while he searches for that perfect retirement home. Rico will spend most of the day sleeping. He might follow you around the house a little but generally, he is going to find a cozy spot if there isn't a lap to settle into. Rico is kennel trained and spends his time while I am away in his kennel. He does well and seems comfortable. I always give him a reward for kenneling, and he usually gets breakfast in his kennel before I leave for work. He is potty trained and hasn't had any accidents.  Rico generally gets a little exercise after I return from work and then it's nap time again for Mr. Suave. Rico does love walking and exploring, occasionally even running. As a distinguished older gentleman, however, he doesn't really need extreme amounts of exercise daily as some dogs require. Rico is an oinker that absolutely loves his food and treats, which is great for training and having him follow your directions. That being said, his weight is doing pretty well and he has lost a few pounds since his initial vet visit, as the vet recommended. Rico's transition from his old home of about 7 years to a stay at the shelter, then to my home was not very easy for him. He was also coming off a prescription of steroids per the veterinarian's advice. While he was completely content inside my apartment almost immediately, he did take some adjustments to the neighborhood on walks. Other people and dogs would stress him out if we got too close. He really needed decompression time to get used to his new surroundings. 4 Luv of Dog sent Rico and me through a six-week training course  "Over Reactive Rover"  through Down Dog Studio to help him overcome this hurdle, and it has helped immensely. Rico has been much easier and calmer to walk and has picked up very well on everything we have been taught. I would, of course, go over some of the things we worked on so he can continue to be successful in his retirement home. I would also encourage adopters to continue training as training classes are just as much for the owner as for the dog. I feel like Rico's transition from his foster home to an adoptive home will be much easier than the transition from the shelter to a foster home. This coupled with the training Rico has received has him really looking forward to lounging around with you, so please consider adopting Rico to help him finish his journey out of the rescue for good!!To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org June 5, 2023, 3:32 pm

No apartments, Older considerate children only.   Joelle is a sweet lady looking for her forever home to love her up!   Foster Home Feedback  *   No Apartments  ** Older/considerate children 06/02/2023 Foster Feedback: Joelle has been having a fantastic time playing with her larger foster sister. She seems to be enjoying time in the fenced yard along with some walks. She is definitely affectionate, sits on your lap, and gives kisses. Joelle enjoys watching you do things around the house. She met the resident cat but didn't show much interest in her yet. She has great focus when you tell her to sit, and she stays sitting even when our dog gets distracted and just wants a treat. 04/04/2023 Foster Feedback: Joelle used to be scared of the kennel but now kennels herself each morning with zero issues. She really is a smart girl. In addition to knowing kennel up, she knows all the “S” commands - sit, shake, and stay. We’ve been working on “come” as she loves playing outside and would prefer to stay out when it’s nice. But, she has been doing a great job starting to come when we call - especially if a treat is involved as she knows that word, too! Joelle is also doing so much better being let out of her kennel. Her jumping with excitement to see you has become minimal (she’s still happy, but knows she doesn’t get attention unless she’s calm). Joelle is such a sweet, cuddly dog. She’s also a great sleeper! She stays on her dog bed all night until morning, then she likes to jump on our bed for a few minutes while we are waking up. She would love to find a home that is a good balance of walks or play time and cuddling, as she loves just hanging out when she knows we want to relax. Joelle will be such a great companion for her adopter(s)!  2/27/2023 Foster Feedback: Joelle has been with us for over 3 weeks and is such a sweet girl. She is fully potty trained and now kenneled trained, too! She will walk right in when you say “Kennel up” and wait for her treat. Joelle absolutely loves other dogs and would do well in a home with another playful dog. She can come on a little strong at first and bark if the other dog doesn’t want to play with her. It took a couple of days for both of our dogs to realize she just wants to play but now that they have, they have so much fun with her! She’s met our two neighbor dogs and did great with them, too. Joelle can be shy with new people but once she warms up, she will follow you everywhere. She’s obsessed with the shower and likes to wait for whoever is in there to get out (and sometimes peek her head in to make sure all is ok in there). She also likes to cuddle and she curls into the cutest ball on blankets.  Once Joelle knows you’re safe, she gets extremely excited if you’ve left and come back. We’ve been working on having her remain calm in her kennel before we let her out, but she does get so happy to see you, she jumps and can be “puppy-ish mouthy”, which is why we recommend older children only. This has gotten a little better in the last week or so with redirecting her, and I think she would really benefit from and enjoy taking obedience classes with her adopter. This sweet girl is almost 11 months old and would love to celebrate her 1st birthday in a home of her own!   2/6/2023 Foster Feedback: My favorite thing about Joelle is that she is always down for a cuddle! She knows when you are working hard and finally have time for a break, she then comes up to you and sits in your lap to give you a hug. Currently as I’m writing this she is snoozing away, dreaming of the perfect family who is going to take her home. We have made progress on her kennel training. She will now go into the kennel for a treat, but once she sees that door moves, she’s out of there. Don’t let that scare you at all! She is perfect free roaming while you are away at work. She doesn’t have any accidents or get into anything inappropriate. She just eagerly waits for you to return home, so she can show you how much she missed you! She’s completely potty trained and will pace to the door and back to you until you let her out. She would love to have another dog play buddy because she LOVES to play. When she wants my dog to play with her, she grabs a toy and drags it on my dog’s body until she finally plays with her. She knows there’s a family that is perfect for her, maybe that is you?! 12/23/2022 Foster Feedback: Joelle surprised us because we thought we were getting an 8-year-old dog but instead she was 9 ½ months! She certainly acts like a puppy but is well-behaved for her age. She can be skittish around new people but quickly warms up to them. She is the best playmate for a dog buddy! She is cat friendly but will follow a dog if they chase a cat. She has been around a newborn baby and young kids and loved every minute of it. She was very gentle with the newborn and gave many kisses. Since she is a puppy she can be mouthy whenever excited but can easily be redirected. Her favorite thing to do is to be by people. She does not like to be left out and will let you know about it. She makes sure everything you do is with a dog, she is a great supervisor and will let you slack off as long as you give her cuddles and kisses. She is potty trained but will occasionally have an accident when we are not paying attention. If everyone is downstairs and we hear her go upstairs, it's time to take her outside. She does not like her crate but we are working on the crate being a safe space for her. We have not had any issues with her free roaming. At night she likes to sleep right next to you under the blanket. She is the best-heated blanket you could have. Anyone who takes this lovely girl will never be cold ever again!Click here to watch a video of Joelle. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org June 5, 2023, 3:32 pm

Bena D is a friendly boy looking for his forever family to give him extra belly scratches!   Foster Home Feedback  4/9/2023 Foster Feedback:  I wasn’t feeling well about a month ago, and Bena D was by my side the whole time to make sure I was okay. Bena D is a dog that you are going to want to kennel up when you’re out of the house. As stated before, he is extremely smart and knows how to escape the wire and plastic kennels, but we have been able to keep him in using a heavy duty steel kennel. In that kennel, he admits defeat that he can not get out and will just lay there, but he is vocal when he first goes inside of it.  (Kennel example link: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/smithbuilt-black-heavy-duty-steel-dog-cage-with-tray-42-l-x-30-w-x-34-h-3680224) His walking is pretty decent with just a little flaw when you start the walk by pulling on the leash, but after the excitement of seeing nature and the world, he walks nicely on a loose leash by your side. His favorite thing to do is snuggle with anything that has a beating pulse and that will let him cuddle with them. If you’re looking for a cuddle bug, Bena D is the dog for you!  2/6/2023 Foster Feedback: I initially took Bena D for a week-long kennel break (it’s like a sleepover at my house), but somehow he convinced me to foster him instead. He is the smartest foster we have ever had (shhh don’t tell my other fosters!). He knows how to sit, shake, high five, roll over, and he even walks nicely. His ears are to die for!! I love them so much. I couldn’t find him in the yard one day and all the sudden I just saw his ears pop up from behind a snow hill. Speaking about being outside, Bena D doesn’t like the cold, his preference is to be warm all the time. That being said he prefers to have a coat to wear outside and likes to sleep under blankets whenever he gets the chance! He is so handsome in his coat and he acts like he doesn’t know it. He loves to snuggle as close as he can get to you. He’s the best snuggle buddy on a cold day. He is cat and dog friendly. He ignores my cat for the most part. He is finally becoming comfortable enough to try to play with my other dogs here. He loves to play tug-a-war or play with any toy that squeaks! He loves his squeaky toys, sadly my dogs hear the squeaks and does everything in their power to destroy the squeaker. He will go to the kennel but is not a fan of it. I hope to help him realize the kennel isn’t so bad with yummy kongs and toys. He is potty trained, never had an accident with me! He is the best boy you can ask for! As long as you have a comfy lap and cozy blanket, he will be happy in life! 1/24/2023 Volunteer feedback: Bena D is a sweet and silly boy. I think his ears get local channels. This boy loves his squeaky toys, the louder the squeak the better. He’s loves being the center of attention so he can show off his skills. Bena’s skills include sit, down, shake (right and left pawed), and the best skill roll over. I’m sure he has more up his sleeves, he’s a clever boy. His cleverness tends to lead to mischief/sneakiness, so a close eye needs to be kept on him around doors. Bena D is full of energy and would love a dog sibling to burn that energy off with. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org June 5, 2023, 3:32 pm

She is very wary of new things and people but warms up with yummy food and treats. She is potty trained 99% of the time. When it is cold I have to take her out and make sure she goes, otherwise she will try to sneak away and do it in the house.  She seems more fearful of men but is slowly starting to trust my husband. She hasn't shown any aggression with humans besides barking.  She is great with my dog Maggie and they play all the time. Valley would rather sleep and cuddle though.  Valley also does well with my 3 older cats and just ignores them even if they try to swipe at her. She also is very good with my 2 year old niece who likes to scream and run around my house with non stop energy.  Valley is a great listener and willing to learn (especially if there is food involved). I have taken her on a few walks and she doesn't pull too much until she senses we are heading home.  We do kennel her when we are away and she whines/ barks quite a bit and tries to get out. I usually try to give her a chew and that helps. At night she kennels nicely and doesn't whine once we put a blanket over the kennel. She does snore most nights but it isn't super loud.  Valley needs a person willing to be patient with her until she trusts them and then she will be a forever velcro dog who will give nothing but love. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org June 5, 2023, 3:32 pm

Fenced-in Yard.  3/16/23 Volunteer Feedback: Isosceles is a gem of a pup! This girl knows how to give love and is always in the mood to play tug! She displays some reactive behavior when she is outdoors, but she is quickly learning how to be a more confident pup in public. Her reactivity toward cars has tremendously improved (she will stray in their direction when walking rather than lunging full force), but she is quick to focus on you when her name is called. (Bonus: if you have some cheese in sight, you will become the center of her universe... no distractions can overcome her love for cheese!) An owner will need to continue to work on her leash walking manners and will forever be rewarded with post-walk snuggles. After a walk, Isosceles loves to toss herself on the couch and roll over for some belly scratches!   This lady definitely knows how to play! Isosceles can tug like there is no tomorrow and loves to go to town squeaking on a plush toy. She knows a fair bit of the basic tricks (sit, shake, lay down, come, etc.) and has the mind to learn more. She can jump counters of decent heights, so an owner with a high fence (6 feet) will be best for security. Isosceles displays dog selective/reactive behavior, so she will need to be the only dog in the home to allow her to prosper in a home. This sweetheart is looking for a home that can guide her on the journey of becoming a confident dog and enjoying the love that she is ready to share. 2/8/2023 Volunteer Feedback: Hi everyone my name is Isosceles! If you can't pronounce it, people call me Iso for short. I absolutely love all people. Spending time chewing on a toy while hanging out next to my human makes me the happiest of dogs. String cheese is one of my favorite treats, and I get some every day as we work on my training. People think I am extra special, so we work on lots of training together. Things I have learned: find it, shake, stay, sit, touch, magnet feeding, and down. I also have a group of volunteers that are working on helping me be more comfortable when I see other dogs and they are teaching me how safe I feel in a muzzle, my new human(s) will need to be able to keep this up.To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org June 5, 2023, 3:32 pm

He's a 2 year old pitbull terrier. He's potty and kennel trained, although the kennel isn't his favorite place to be especially if you're home. He's goofy & his favorite thing to do is play fetch. He's pretty good at bringing back the ball too! If you ignore him too long he'll drop it and/or put it on your lap and will wait for you to throw it again! I think he'd play all day if your arm could hold out! He also loves to snuggle! He'd rather sit on you or stand over you than beside you. Duncan loves belly rubs and butt scratches. He has a tendency to lean on you in order to get pets so might be better with older kids so he doesn't tip the littles over. He's good on a leash, but if he sees other dogs he gets super excited and will want to pull, so a good harness would be best. He loves other dogs, but he failed his cat test.  Duncan gives the best kisses and has the best facial expressions. He's really good at puppy dog eyes, and will give you the side eye of disapproval when you aren't getting him a treat fast enough. He loves to look out the window and will bark at passing dogs or at the neighbor dogs he can see from the backyard but otherwise he's quiet. He is very good at playing by himself too and can be outside alone with no trouble. Duncan would be a loving and wonderful asset to any home!   3/16/23 Volunteer Feedback: Duncan is a shelter sweetheart! He has the loveliest personality and is happiest when he is with people! He is a bit apprehensive at first, but once you show him some love, he will give it back to you in full force. Duncan is great on a leash, and sometimes he will even start walking on his two back legs! He is definitely a hilarious and goofy character. On walks, Duncan will constantly be looking back to see if you're following him along. He loves to play fetch and is excellent at retrieving and returning the ball. Duncan has a silly personality and loves to thrash around with plush toys and chew on squeaky toys until they cannot squeak anymore. He knows his share of tricks and is eager to perform them for a piece of cheese. Duncan is incredibly sweet, so I can see him happy in a home with a fellow dog to be pals. Duncan is an angel deserving of a loving home, especially one that will embrace all of his special quirks! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org June 5, 2023, 3:32 pm
