"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a shelter dog in possession of a good tennis ball, must be in want of a good home. We wholeheartedly agree! Meet Tank, a dapper and educated gentleman in search of his family. Tank came to us from a home with other dogs and currently is a little unsure of his surroundings. Volunteers report he can sit when asked, is strong but walks on the leash and is a little scared of unexpected squeaker noises looking to his hoomans for reassurance. He is already dressed for courting and we just know that he is going to steal a few hearts. Could Tank be the one for you? A small injury has prevented him from playing, but boy does this dog seem so eager to meet every person and dog on his walks! We hope he can join a playgroup soon - it is so hard to keep telling him not yet! Gus will need altered before going home, but don't let that delay your application for this very good boy.

Story
Vaughn is a cute one-year old male American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on November 29, 2022 by a Good Samaritan who found him in the 400 Block of Fifth Street in Marietta Ohio. Vaughn was wearing a nice collar (with a matching leash attached) but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar to enable us to locate his family ... And he was not microchipped. Vaughn has a dark brown/brindle short smooth coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with black shading, expressive brown eyes, and short semi-erect ears. This young man has a happy, exuberant personality and is quite active. Vaughn loves to 'play nip' in an attempt to encourage anyone nearby to engage in some fun-and-games. HSOV Kennel Tech Olivia Moretto accompanied Vaughn outdoors late in the afternoon he arrived and indulged him in some playtime (much to his delight). Vaughn weighs 52 lbs and is energetic on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Vaughn will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since he was not reclaimed, Vaughn was neutered on February 14, 2023 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Bellatrix is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female Pit Bull Terrier/Blue Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 12, 2023 by a Good Samaritan after she was found on Lydia Road in the Little Hocking Ohio area about two weeks earlier. That family tried in vain to locate her family before bringing her to us in hopes that we could help find her way home. Bellatrix has a sleek black short smooth coat, a large patch of white/blue ticking on her chest, white/black paws, a cute short tail, and a pretty face with dark brown eyes, a white stripe on her forehead, and short semi-erect ears. The family who kept Bellatrix provided information that they had learned about her while she was at their home: Bellatrix is not good (but not really bad) with cats. She is not good with female dogs but is okay with male dogs. Bellatrix was being fed raw food. She listens pretty well and saying "Bella" in a high pitch voice gets her attention. She is super sweet and loves belly rubs as well as treats. Bellatrix was indeed very sweet and loved attention when these photos were taken soon after she arrived at HSOV. She is a happy girl who loved everyone she met. She is a 'chunky' full-figured girl who tipped the scales at 72.6 lbs. Bellatrix is energetic on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bellatrix will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

Story
Betty is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Brandy Drive in Marietta Ohio. Betty was accompanied by her best friend Veronica who is most likely her sister. Neither Betty nor Veronica were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Betty has a black short smooth coat with an over-sized white bib on her chest, a long tail, and a pretty face with a narrow white stripe on her forehead, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Her bestie/sister Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Betty weighs 75 lbs. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Betty & Veronica outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. We had taken preliminary photos in their kennel a few days after they arrived, and they were snuggled up close to each other on their large blanket-covered kuranda bed. UPDATE: We had late-breaking news soon after we posted Betty's Petfinder 'baby bump' photos on the evening of August 13, 2023 and will include a birth announcement: Betty gave birth to six healthy puppies. All of the babies and momma Betty are doing well ... And "Aunt Veronica" is also doing well.

Veronica has a black short smooth coat with a small patch of white on her chest and belly, a long tail, and a sweet face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her slender muzzle, and large floppy ears. Veronica & Betty have been kept together since entering our shelter since they depend upon each other for companionship and a sense of security. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Veronica weighs 50 lbs. She doesn't appear to have been accustomed to walking on a leash but made a noble effort with her best friend Betty by her side. Veronica has a gentle, rather shy, personality. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Veronica & Betty outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. Story
Lotus is a beautiful 2-year old female American Pit Bull Terrier who was brought to the HSOV on October 26, 2022 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Franklin Street in Marietta Ohio. Lotus had been in the neighborhood for 3-4 weeks, and it was assumed that she belonged to someone in that vicinity .. But after weeks went by, it seemed that she likely did not have a real home. Lotus was wearing a collar, but she was not microchipped. Lotus has a sleek blue/charcoal gray coat with a large patch of white on her chest, a long tail, and a gorgeous face with expressive brown eyes, a blue nose, and cute 'folded-over' ears. The Good Samaritan who brought Lotus to our shelter reported that she did well with children. When Lotus saw an opportunity to walk into that family's house, she immediately 'made herself at home' when she curled up on their couch and took a nap with the children. Lotus was quite the lady when HSOV Kennel Manager Rachal Merrow accompanied her for these outdoor glamour photos on October 28th. Lotus was a natural model and seemed to enjoy posing when the camera was pointed at her. Lotus weighs 58 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. Since she was not reclaimed, Lotus was spayed on December 5, 2022 and was also given rabies vaccine. Lotus has a very sweet disposition and is great with people (especially children). She doesn’t mind cats, and she is good with most other dogs. We always recommend a 'meet-and-greet' with other family dogs to make sure they are compatible. Lotus’ very favorite person (HSOV Volunteer Georgia Hall) is the president of Lotus’ fan club and often takes her for social outings or to spend an afternoon in her home to enjoy a 'play date' their family's dog. Georgia or our compassionate HSOV Kennel Techs would love to introduce you to this special girl. Lotus is looking for a fabulous home where she will be loved, cherished, and spoiled to her heart’s content.

Story
Rango is an adorable 10-month old male Pit Bull Terrier/American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on the evening of September 6, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Camp Hervida Road in the Waterford Ohio area. Rango was not wearing a collar (though he did have an 'imprint' around his neck as though he had once been wearing a collar), and he was not microchipped. Rango has a white-and-black short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful face with the nicest 'smile', a black patch around his right eye, a black button nose on his cute muzzle, and large floppy ears. Rango's left ear is white with black spotting and his right ear is black-and-white. This young man is such a sweetheart and a lovebug. Rango was head-over-paws in love with HSOV Kennel Tech Hayley Sturm who helped him with his photo session on September 7th. Rango is a pushover for attention and gave Hayley some terrific doggy kisses (much to her delight we might add). Surely someone has given Rango much love in his young life for him to be so affectionate and lovable. Rango weighs 44.6 lbs and isn't a very large dog when he see him in person. He walked fairly well on a leash for Hayley and stayed as close to her as possible. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Rango was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for this awesome boy.
