Story
This lovely lady is entering the FREEDOM TAILS program in August and will graduate in late October. More information coming soon!Find out more about our Freedom Tails program at https://pawsgh.org/freedomtails/8/29/23 update:Hi, My name is Lucy! I’m a beautiful shar pei/pit mix. I am going on 18 months old and I am a girl full of energy. I love to play fetch and wrestle around with the boys, then go and get a full body massage and relax. I love to go outside and play then come back and lay out and be petted. I am a big leaner - a HEAVY leaner - and I love to have my belly, neck and ears rubbed. I am looking for a home where I can go on walks, play outside and then come home and be the perfect house dog. I have lots of love and energy to share with a family who will have me. Until next time, many wishes and many blessings! Lucy9-19-23Hi it’s me Lucy again,I’m adjusting to this new life. It's really easy, laid back and fun. Everyone knows I’m all about fun. I love going to the dog park and running around or playing fetch. I love feeling the sunshine on my face and the wind cooling my fur as I run. Then I like coming back home for a nice cool dip in the pool, but I also know that it's back to working on my cues. I’m getting it and learning but I just want to be a dog and be loved on. I’m hoping to find a home where we can go out and play and have fun then come back home and chill out and watch the game. Hey, I’m Lucy’s handler and it's been such a blessing to work with this dog. She is amazing and just brings so much joy and happiness to everyone she meets. Some people she will even get real vocal with telling them how much she loves being rubbed, tickled and scratched. Lucy even has a 6th sense about her. When I’m feeling down or frustrated, she’ll come and lick my hands until I rub her head and ears or I can sit down and pat my chest and say “hug” and she’ll jump up, put both her elbows on my knee and put her head on my shoulder or under my neck and let me hug her until I feel better. That is the loving and gentle Lucy I know and can speak for. That’s the Lucy I want you to know you’ll be taking home. Just love her and she’ll love you back unconditionally. Thank you10-10Hi, Lucy's handler here again, how is everyone? Well we are getting close to graduation and whenever Lucy's adopted out I can say that she will truly be missed. Lucy has been a very good companion, friend, buddy and healer. I am blessed to have had her, trained her, and spent almost 24hrs a day with her for 3 months. She still is and will always be a perfect dog to me. Lucy is like having a daughter who is a tomboy and loves to chill or play. She can play in the mud and get dirty or clean up and be pretty in pink, tough purple is more her color. All in all Lucy will always hold a special place in my heat because she is a special dog who is full of love. I know whatever family takes her home will not be disappointed and will spoil her as I do just because of how loveable she is and who much love she puts out. Stay well and many blessings. 10/11 Today I went over and sat under a shaded area called the smudge pad. There are flowers all around it. All the other dogs are sitting out in the hot sun but this is my favorite spot. Some guy they call animal, kinda weird as he is a human and not an animal... anyways, he is painting a very nice portrait of me for my future owner. I put on my prettiest pink harness and I sat so still for him. He has treats, but don't tell my trainer! We will just call it a cheat day! Besides, I earned the treats by posing so still while I was being painted. I cant wait for my future owner see's how nice it came out! Please apply to adopt at: http://www.pawsgh.org

Story
I'm a graduate of the FREEDOM TAILS PROGRAM with 12 weeks of training from our friends at Stafford Creek Corrections Center. I am available now. Fill out an application today!Inspector Gadget was found on a mission to find his forever family. He doesn't want to talk about his life before getting picked up by Animal Control, and is just ready to move forward with love and positive energy (emphasis on the ""energy"" part)! His favorite activity is going for walks and will grab the leash and use his Go-Go-Gadget Legs to charge head-first into whatever adventures life has to bring!5/12 - Hello everybody, Just wanted to pop in and tell you all how things are going here at the Stafford Creek Freedom Tails program. I’ve had so much fun and have learned so much. I can now sit, lay down, shake, leave it and wait for my food. I still need to work some more on my leash skills and to come when they call my name but my handler says, “Don't worry buddy, we’ll get there” Since I’ve been here I’ve made a ton of new friends who are in the program too! Me and Allan are best buds. We play keep away and chase each other around. He doesn't know but I will let him win :) Everyone is so nice here, the staff gives me treats and all I have to do is sit or shake or lay down. Crazy huh?!? My handler's name is Dru and he treats me like one of the fellas. He even lets me watch TV with him and sometimes he gives me some popcorn. Life is good here. Well this one’s out the door! I'll write more next week, until then. Gadget5/17 - Hey guys it’s your favorite pup here, just wanted to drop in and give you an update of how things are going here at the Freedom Tails Dog Program and the lessons I’ve learned this week. We worked on my leash skills in the morning before it got too hot out. We also worked on sit and stay. My handler gave me treats and said I did well. Sit and stay are easy concepts to understand once you get the hang of it. I sit, stay, come when they call my name and I get a treat! It’s a great deal, well for me anyways! 😀We also worked on focus. That’s when my trainer wants me to look at him and make eye contact. He gives me a treat for that too, We did this for a bit and then we played at the off leash park. I just LOVE IT THERE! We play fetch and tug of war and sometimes my buddies Allan and Wesley show up. Even the kid Humperdinck comes through to hang out. Hold on, got an itch (scratch, scratch) Okay! I'm back! When it started to heat up my trainer filled up a laundry cart so we could cool off and all go for a swim! It was the next best thing to being at a lake. After that we hung out in the shade and ate ice cubes. I just love those things. We did this all week! My trainer said it’s too hot out to be training all day so we trained in the day and hung out in front of the fan in the evening and watched TV. Life is good. Well that's all for now, I’ll write back next week for another update so stay tuned! Same dog place, same dog channel… until then - GADGET5/24 - Hey everybody, it’s your favorite pup here! Just wanted to check in and give you guys an update on how things are going this week here at the Freedom Tails Dog Program. This week was a lot of fun. We got to try out this obstacle course that the handlers put together. It had a line of barking cones, I mean parking cones set up so we could zig zag through them. I wanted to eat them but my handler told me to leave it so I did and he gave me a treat. Then we came up to this part that had a lit from a storage tote on the ground and my handler asked me to step onto the lid and sit, then wait. So I did. Then he walked over to the kennels and asked me to come and get inside, so I did. Next we went back to the area that had the lod and I was asked to sit again, so I did. Then we went over to the next part of the course that had this thing you jump over. I think they called it a hurdle? Just looked like an old broom stick on top of two milk crates to me. These humans sure have some strange names for things. I really like doing the obstacle course and I hope we get to do it again soon. Maybe they'll have a treat eating contest for us. I’d bet I'd win that! 😀It was also nice to see a bunch of the staff out in the crowd cheering us on and even this lady from PAWS of Grays Harbor named Kimiko brought a kiddy pool for us to relax in the next time it gets hot out. She is so thoughtful. I just love her. All the people at PAWS have been a real God send to us. Also this other lady named Tesha who works next door to us brought us some toys and this other lady named Star brought us some frozen pumpkin puree treats with little doggie treats on top! Even my sponsor officer Letcher brought me a toy! This place is GREAT! I’m learning so much here. I now know sit, stay, wait, down, shake, roll over, by me, east, up, off, and crate! I still need a little work on come, kennel, and my leash skills. I sometimes pull a bit when I get excited. I think he just walks too slow but if i listen and focus he gives me a treat so i'm going to listen. He says I'll be the perfect dog once I get these two things down. I wish Allie (dog care specialist at PAWS) could see me now…. Well that's it for this week. I’ve got to run. I’ve got a playdate with my buddy wesley. For those of you reading, stay tuned! Same dog place, same dog channel. Until next time… your friend Gadget.6/2 - Hey guys, it's your favorite pup here and I just wanted to take a few minutes and give you guys an update as to what I've been up to this week at the Freedom Tails dog program. Hang on two seconds, I've got an itch......*scratch, scratch, scratch*. Okay I'm back. So this week was awesome, we started off training early in the morning right after breakfast. I had kibble, my trainer had oatmeal but he always hooks me up and lets me clean his bowl after he is done. He says I could get a job working in a a restaurant as a dishwasher when I get out. After we ate we went out walking, working on focus/look at me and sit. We also worked on my leash manners as well. He says we only have five weeks left so we've got to work extra hard at it so I can get my green bandanna which signifies I know all my stuff I can do 95% of the time and I'm good to go. I don't mind working extra hard at something. My only question is does it come with extra treats? :) After that we ran the obstacle course. I just love doing that. I don't know if I've told you last time but we added a hoop at the end for us to jump through. That thing is tricky, you have to time it just right at the right speed and height or you won't make it. Me and a few of the other dogs kept hitting the top or sides at first. Some of us – myself included – would just run around it to get the treat on the other side. I was like, 'hello? Do you know it's way easier to just go around? :)' but my trainer wanted me to learn to do it so we can show it off at graduation and I want to make him happy, so I did it. After I jumped through he picked me up and said I was a good boy and spun me around. We practiced this off and on throughout the week. We also worked on my sit and stay and come. He would tell me to sit and stay and walk about fifty or a hundred feet and then call me over to him and give me a treat. I love that game. :) We also went to the off leash park and played with my friends Allan, T-Bone, Humperdink and Wesley. We just have the time of our lives down there wrestling, playing fetch, tug-of-war and my personal favorite: keep away. Even my other human friends – the I.T. Girls Shelby and Taylor – stopped in from time to time to say hi and play. Taylor says I'm the cutest and the goofiest of the bunch and I'd say she was right. :) Later on in the week I got a bath and got my under coat brushed. I just love being pampered. It makes me feel like a prince. :) Right now I'm just having out on the snuggly blanket that my good friends at PAWS got me, waiting for my trainer to get his vest on so we can go to the Wednesday class. Looks like he is ready to roll so I will cut this one short. I will be back with another update for you next week. See you guys there. Same pup place same pup channel... Your friend, Gadget6-7-23Hello, Hey guys it's your favorite pup Gadget here and, as promised, I'm back to give everybody an update to how my week has been here at the Freedom Tails Dog Program and Stafford Creek. My week has been awesome and I hope yours was as fun as mine! When we left off last week I was telling you about me and the other dogs learning to do the obstacle course. We had a blast running through that thing. My favorite part is jumping through the hoop! :) We also worked on “by me”, which is when my trainer wants me to come to him and sit right by his side, wait, and make eye contact. It was a little tricky to understand at first, but I'm starting to get it. Especially when he pulls out the GOOD treats! :) I'll practically break dance for those! We pretty much did this most of the week: obstacle course in the morning and leash training at night when it cooled down. It was a warm week and I'm black, so it's extra hot for me. My trainer said we'll take it easy on the hot days and just hang out at the off-leash dog park with my dog friends or hang by the pool. He said I'm doing very well and I'm a good boy. I can now come, sit, down, up, off, jump, by me, wait, stay, focus, shake, roll over AND fetch. I'm on my way! Only a few more weeks until graduation day. I hope I'll find a family to love me soon. I'm up for adoption if anyone is interested! Anywhoo, that's all for now. I'll write back next week. Same pup place, same pup channel...Until then! Your friend, Gadget6-21-23Hello - Hey guys, it's your favorite pup Gadget here. Just checking in as promised. I wanted to give all my human friends an update as to how things are going this week at the Freedom Tails Dog Program. This week flew by, cant believe in only a few short weeks we'll all be graduating. It's so crazy to think just how far I've come. Seems like just the other day I was running them streets acting a fool, getting into mischief with no real training, no real direction, just chasing my tail with nowhere to go, no place to be and no home to belong. Life's just funny like that, one minute your digging in trash cans looking for your next meal then boom your picked up by the fuzz, finger printed and photographed, sentenced to 12 weeks at Stafford Creek. At that time life seemed so “ruff”. They don't lie when they say three hots and a cot. Man I've never ate so much food in my life and the beds, well, the beds are freaking amazing. Mine and my trainers. This place has been good to me. I've made so many friends and I've learned so much. It's going to be hard to leave this place behind but I know its for the best and somewhere out there my forever home awaits. I just need to keep focused and go had they next few weeks – make all my friends at PAWS proud. We've been working really hard this week on by me, my leash skills and wait. We've also been practicing our routine for graduation. How do I describe it? Think of Barnon and Bailey circus meets America's Got Talent but with dogs. There you'll witness daring feats of amazingness. Even a speech or two. I cant really say too much but what I will say is we've put our heart and soul into this and we hope everyone has a great time and enjoys the show. Did I mention the part about the high wire act? Just kidding, Adam would never let that happen. I can hear him now “four on the floor guys” any who, that's it for now, Ill write you more next week so stay tuned! Same place, same dog channel... Your friend, Gadget06-28-23Hello - Hey everybody it's your favorite pup Gadget here! Just checking in to give you an update as to what we've been up to this week at the Freedom Tails Dog Program. Well, graduation day is almost here. We've been rolling up our sleeves and getting our paws dirty putting this thing together. It's been so much fun these last 12 weeks. I've really learned a lot. We all have. I never thought I would be the pup I am today. You know, hard work does pay off in the end. My trainer Dru says I'm a star and all I have to do is shine. And come graduation day I hope to make everyone proud, especially my two friends at PAWS Allie and Kimiko. They were the ones who saw something special in me and signed me up for the program. They could have picked any other dog but they chose me and for that I'm forever grateful. They say there are angels God has sent down to Earth who walk among us and if that's true, I think some of them may have found employment at PAWS. IDK, just a thought... hold on, one sec... scratch, scratch, scratch... okay I'm back! Let's see, what else did we do this week. Oh, we went out to the off leash yard a few times. That was a blast! We even had a photo shoot! Star took photos of my and my best friend Allen playing tug of war and WWF wresting. She also took some action poses with me jumping and rolling over as well! :) Hey, what can I say - I'm a ham :) We also went out to the big yard and walked around the other guys who live here. Everyone was so nice and pet me and scratched my belly and said I was a good boy. I heard some of the other pups in class have been adopted. I'm so happy for them. It's just three of us now. Hopefully we will all find homes soon. Well, this one's out the doggie door! See you all next week. Same pup place, same pup channel... Until then - Your friend, Gadget07-19-23 Hello to all... Guess who back, back again, Gadgets back, tell a friend! Its your favorite pup Gadget here, I'm still here at SCCC. Just when I thought I was out they pulled me back in :) **Mafia Voice** It looks like my foster home may have fell through :( I know, I know, what can you? It's like a dog cant catch a break around here. It's all good though. I'm still with my trainer Dru and still having the time of my life. We've just been going out to the yard walking the track and hanging out front of the living unit playing fetch and tug of war. Life is still good and now I get all the attention. It's a great deal if you ask me. Just wanted to give you guys an update and let you know I'll be on here writing blogs every week until I get adopted. So stay tuned! Same dog place, same dog channel... Your friend, GadgetPlease apply to adopt at: http://www.pawsgh.org

Story
Introducing Juniper! Juniper is a female Terrier mix with a glossy red and white coat. We estimate Juniper is about two years old. This sweet lady enjoys nice, long leash walks and has some pretty good leash manners. During her stay at the shelter, we have found she also likes to play fetch with her people. However, if you need a moment to yourself, she can also have her own fun and will preoccupy herself with a ball. Does Juniper sound like she might mesh well with your lifestyle? Stop by and meet her today!Juniper recently got spayed and is recovering well, but she will need to stay at the shelter for the next few days to ensure she completes her proper course of pain medication. While you are still welcome to come in and adopt her, the earliest date she can go home is November 24. However, this just gives you more time to prepare your home for her arrival! The dog adoption fee is $90. Story
Meet Bella! She is available for adoption but will be staying at her foster home until adopted. If you'd like to meet, please contact the shelter and we will make arrangements for the foster home to contact you about meeting her.Meet Bella! The following information is provided by her foster home:Bella is one of the sweetest dogs I've had the good fortune of knowing. She is loyal, playful, and distributes her love evenly among those she cares about. Be sweet to her and you've got a friend for life. She is outrageously adorable, to boot.Bella loves to go for walks. A daily walk between 30-60 minutes keeps her content, otherwise she can get a little restless. That being said, she does not strike me as one who would need a huge backyard. She mainly uses ours to go potty and saves her activity and sniffing for walks. Using a gentle-guider, she's really well-behaved on a leash. She is reactive to other dog walkers, though. She is aggressive with other dogs and isn't comfortable around children, but she has been fine with both adult men and women. She prefers it when people let her come to them. She gets excited with new people and can tend to jump up and give kisses a little too forcefully. She loves to lick and can be kind of an attention hog! All you have to do is look at her and say her name and she'll start wagging her tail.Bella LOVES her toys, especially plushies. She'll often go get a toy and bring it over to you to play or sometimes just to show it off. She even started knowing them by name! She is a toy destroyer and destuffer and they don't last long. She has even ripped a rubber Kong toy into pieces in under two hours. She is extremely smart. She already seemed to know sit, speak, shake, roll over, kiss, up, and stay. We worked with her on "spin around" and she caught on quickly. Bella is very food motivated. She loves to eat. Teaching her tricks and rewarding her behavior is best done with nibbles in hand. She is also very responsive to love and positive reinforcement. She is sensitive to discipline. She is a velcro dog and she seems to enjoy having someone around at home. She likes a routine. When off routine, she can be anxious. Her best days are comprised of sleeping, eating, belly rubs, following her people around, and going for a long walk. Car rides stress her out. She's excited to get in the car, but once she's in and moving she gets very anxious. She is very well-behaved at home alone, but gets a little sad and prefers to have her people home with her.She likes to snuggle on her terms. She likes to have her own doggy bed nearby so she can freely sleep wherever she wants. She may be older in years old but she acts very young in spirit. She is sweet, cheerful, protective and perceptive. She will alert you (loudly) if someone is at the door or if she hears something unusual.Bella just finished nano laser treatment for a mast cell tumor on her left hind leg. It was successfully removed and she is in clinical remission! She has periodic check-ups to ensure it stays that way. Her next appointment is scheduled for late January. She receives two over-the-counter medications, twice a day. She will need to remain on these for life. They are inexpensive and she will eat them if you just put them on her food. After spending a year and a half with Bella, I would deem her ideal adopter to have:· No other pets and no children· A work-from-home family member so she doesn't get lonely· Acreage for her to run around and explore, or the ability to consistently provide her with a 30-60min walk every day· A routine-based lifestyle - travel and unpredictability cause her stress· Commitment to her cancer follow-up appointments and medication· A desire to both give and receive a whole lotta loveBella is a happy girl who deserves a family that's going to be just as sweet to her as she is to them. A family that will take loving care of her for the rest of her Bella days. If that sounds like you, then I'd love to talk further with you!The dog adoption fee is $90. They come spayed/neutered, microchipped, first set of vaccines including DHPP (parvo combo), Bordatella (kennel cough), and Strongid (wormer). Our website updates every hour, but some animals may be adopted faster than we can get them updated online. Story
Soup season is among us so come on down and get yourself a huge bowl of Beef Stew! Bigboi Beef Stew is a great young man that would make a great addition to most homes. He doesn't know his own strengths and can get a bit too rowdy if he gets over stimulated but calms down with a hug and a booty scratch. He made his way to us from Hoquiam Animal control and has been a joy to get to know while in our care. He is nothing but happy all the time and enjoys the company of anyone willing to say hello. He has made so many new dog friends here at PAWS and is willing to make many more!He has made friends with our most selective dog Jojo! Adopt him with Jojo as part of a AOGO promotion! (Adopt one, get one with no adoption fee)Please apply to adopt at: http://www.pawsgh.org
