Story
Introducing James Gandolfini, the feline with a fierce exterior and a heart of gold. This gray tabby may have resemblances to his namesake from The Sopranos, but don't let that fool you. James is a gentle giant with a sweet meow that could rival an opera singer's soprano. His stunning gray fur and mesmerizing green eyes hold the key to his captivating tale. James Gandolfini warms up quickly with the right combination of treats, food, and head scratches. Once he feels at ease, he transforms into a laid-back and low-maintenance kitty. He enjoys playing, taking peaceful naps, and showing a keen interest in his fellow foster siblings. This love bug even cuddles up in bed with his foster mom, happily kneading and offering his belly for those coveted belly rubs. Plus, he has a quirky little smile that brightens anyone's day when he's showered with attention. Oh, and did we mention his obsession with a special bed that his foster parents are excited to pass along to his forever home? Story
Meet Kevin Whiskers, PhD! While he worked hard for his doctorate (studying whiskers, as his own whiskers are the most magnificent) and he's quite proud of it, his friends all call him Kevin Whiskers or just Kevin. Kevin ended up at the shelter after his previous owner became ill and could no longer care for him. At fourteen years old, Kevin is a low-energy king. He spends most of his day happily stretched out and snoozing on his favorite couch. He also enjoys hanging out in a window and watching the neighborhood. Bonus points if he can spend some time bird watching, or judging people's parallel parking skills.  Kevin's a great eater and a perfect gentleman about his litterbox. He'll greet you at the door every day with his cheerful meows, and just wait until you hear his funny squeaky purr! While he's not generally a super active cat, he's been known to have occasional fits of the zoomies which are pretty hilarious! He also loves a good catnip toy and a wand toy. He's a very easy cat to live with! He loves to get affection, but if you're busy, he won't nag you. He's super chill. Kevin lived with children at his previous home and while he didn't live with other pets, he seems like he'd be a good fit for other mellow, low-energy respectful pets. He would also be a great cat for a senior citizen, or for a first time cat owner.  Kevin's been enjoying his post-doc at his foster home, but he's ready to search for a tenure track position. Does your home have a faculty position for such a dignified cat?  Age:~14 Years How I came to PAWS: Owner Surrender Animal ID#:55561 I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Shae is so friendly and loving that under normal circumstances, she would have found a home immediately but this special girl has a difficult medical condition, and we genuinely don’t know if there’s an adopter who’s up to taking her home — but we’re hoping with all our hearts that they’re out there. Shae's condition causes her bladder to leak small amounts of urine throughout the day, and it's very likely that it will never improve. For Shae to live a happy life, her adopter would need a dedicated space in their home that's easy to clean, but wouldn't leave her too isolated from her people – because for Shae, people are her whole entire world. We've rescued a lot of pets over the years, and this sweet soul is one of the most gentle, affectionate cats to come through our doors. Shae loves every person she meets unconditionally, and will climb into your arms without hesitation whether she's known you for five years or five minutes. Once she's there, she'll stay with you for hours, gazing into your eyes and making biscuits in utter bliss. And while she's best known for her snuggles, Shae has a not-so-secret silly side when the toys come out, and will ham it up with the best of them despite having some poor mobility in her back legs. She'll dive and slide, chasing her the toy and when the play session is over, she'll climb into your lap and give you the best head bonk! She also rolls on her back for belly rubs, gives kisses, and purrs like an engine!  This beautiful calico has lived with dogs of all sizes before and she's even met a few at the shelter and did very well. She's so easy going that she would likely also do ok with cats! To put it simply, we adore this cat. Closing the door to her room at the shelter and walking away at the end of each night is one of the hardest parts of the day.  All Shae wants is love, and she is desperate to leave the shelter so she can find it. Her ideal home would provide her a low sided litter box for easy entry, ensure she has limited access to stairs and be willing to work with her through her urinary issues! While she uses the litter box well, she also leaks urine which means she is looking for someone who can routinely keep her and her space clean. She would also benefit from a family that can help her maintain weight loss so she doesn't put extra pressure on her hind legs. And if possible (but not required), an adopter could pursue seeing urinary specialist to see if there are any other treatment options or surgeries that we haven't tried. If you're looking for a loving companion and willing to do a little extra work, Shae is your girl!   Shae's needs may be greater than most, but so is her capacity for love. If you think you might be the special person that four year old Shae is looking for, we would be thrilled to tell you all about her. Please reach out to us at adoptions@phillypaws.org with Shae's name in the subject line, and a staff member will be in touch as quickly as possible. Story
You'll squeal for joy when you meet Squeakers! Squeakers is always on the lookout for people to give her pets and a nice place to cuddle. In her current foster home, she cohabitates easily with a small, older dog and 2 children under 6, who are gentle with her. After 3-4 day of decompression time in a separate space, she’s gotten very comfortable around the house and enjoys time with kids and adults alike. Her foster family says she is very easy-going and independent, does adorable “brrreows” when you feed her, and loves to sit in her window perch and watch the street. She is also maybe the only cat they’ve ever met who doesn’t scratch on a post (or furniture!) so occasional claw trimmings will be needed when you hear her tip-tapping toes. While she has lived with other cats in the past, she wouldn't mind being your one and only, either. Squeakers was just recently started on a special diet for kidney disease, so her adopters will need to continue that care/diet in her next home. She'll also need to be monitored for any related symptoms and should plan for some additional follow-up in the short term (just some repeat bloodwork to recheck her kidney levels) once Squeakers is home with you. She promises she's worth it and would just love to become a part of your family! I am not at the shelter. Story
Explore the wonders of the scientific universe with Bill Nye the Science Cat! While in foster care, Bill has blossomed into a social, loving, and active little boy. He’s wasted no time strengthening his legs by running and jumping all over his new space. Without the stressful environment of the shelter, Bill has also forgone the majority of his brattiness and loves nothing more than to commandeer laps and fuzzy blankets for all his sleeping and purring needs. Bill is also very curious and loves finding snug spaces to nap in - so don’t be surprised if you find him snoozing amongst the shoes in your closet. As much as he loves sleeping in tight places - he absolutely adores spreading out and showing you how long he is with biiiig stretches - it’s quite the sight to behold. Bill is happy to take over any soft surface in his reach - be it your bed or your couch or your laundry. Bill is still a bit sensitive to some handling (especially surrounding his hindquarters) - left over from his days as an injured stray- so we'd recommend a calm, quiet, adults-only home for now. He has also tested FeLV+ so for now should remain the only cat in his home.   **Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a virus that is specific to cats that attacks and weakens a cat’s immune system. Cats with FeLV can live normal, happy, healthy lives—with a shorter life expectancy than cats without FeLV. In the past, cats with FeLV in shelters were euthanized as soon as they were diagnosed. PAWS takes a different stance: we enable FeLV+ cats to live out their lives in loving homes. For more information feel free to check out the FeLV FAQs we have available on our website!** Age: 1 - 2 Years How I came to PAWS: Found as a stray Animal ID#: A55771 Location: foster care -- please email my foster at annikaneve@gmail.com to learn more about me!   Watch this animal's video:   _____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp. To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.  To adopt a small animal, complete the application at phillypaws.org/small-animal-adoption-application.           Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring. Story
Tundra is cuddler for sure. Eating and being held are close favorites as long as he gets to sniff your face! He also get excited for playtime, though slightly less than his sister. Named for his long orange fur, tundra is a bonded pair with his littermate, girl (the only girl of her litter) they are 5 months old this November 4th (birthday June 4 2022), generally socialized and potty trained. Both have had spay/neuter and rabies shot 11/11/2022. We were unable to do the other vaccinations. Girl, loves to play and enjoys brief cuddles. They both really like food over most things especially if it's been wet a little bit with water ( I can probably donate a 12lbs bag or so of their food-American journey chicken grain free). I am hoping to have them rehomed as a bonded pair.
